You’re ready to get down on one knee and need the perfect backdrop - luckily if you’re an Angeleno, you’re surrounded by places where you can easily sweep your beloved off their feet. If you’re looking for some inspiration for places to pop the question, we’ve put together a list of French Florist approved proposal spots.

LA beaches are romantic

Though we might be biased, we think it’s safe to say that LA has some of the best beaches in the country. There is something for everyone, whether you want a windswept hike through Abalone Cove Shoreline Park, or prefer the busier boho vibes of Venice Beach. Here are some beaches where we think a proposal is bound to succeed:

El Matador State Beach

As hidden a gem as you can find in LA, this beach is often quiet, thanks to its limited parking spaces and lack of signposting. If you can traverse the steep walk down to the shoreline you’ll be rewarded with a stunning strip of secluded beach, with dramatic stone arches and beautiful clear water. With calls from the local birdlife adding to the ambience, sunset coats this beach in liquid gold, giving you a setting straight from a romantic film for your proposal. Find El Matador State Beach around 45 minutes from central LA.

Point Dume State Beach

The setting for its fair share of Hollywood blockbusters, Point Dume is easily one of the most stunning places in Southern California. Dramatic cliffs overlook the sparkling water that makes this beach a popular swim and scuba spot. Hikers and climbers will also enjoy the cliffs here, but the level is not so difficult that casual strollers should be put off. Seals and grey whales can be seen enjoying the water here, thanks to how well kept and clean the area is. Point Dume is also roughly a 45 minute drive from LA.

Santa Monica State Beach

Classically Californian and just to the west of Downton LA, this suggestion is perfect if you want a little more life in your proposal photos. The iconic rollercoasters and ferris wheel on Santa Monica Pier would add a splash of color and action, and give you plenty of activities for both before and after you’ve asked that special question. You could rent a segway to travel to your chosen spot, or even get down on one knee at the famous Route 66 “end of the trail” sign, letting your partner know that their journey as a singleton is well and truly over, and your next adventure is about to begin.

LA has breath-taking views

LA is home to incredible views both urban and untamed, so whether you would prefer something beautiful and botanical or the twinkling lights of the city to be the backdrop to your proposal, there’s something for everyone. The only problem with these spots is running the risk of your partner being too caught up in the incredible views and missing your moment!

Griffith Observatory

This art deco landmark is one of the most popular in LA - from here you can see the ocean and the Hollywood sign, and whether you come during daylight hours or when the stars are out, the view is a sight to behold. Seen in films such as Rebel Without a Cause and La La Land, the Griffith Observatory is a must-see location in LA - why not mark your visit by getting down on one knee?

The Getty

Perched in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Getty Center and Museum not only houses works of art - it is an architectural marvel itself. The views of LA from here are amazing, and it would be easy to spend a whole day simply taking in your surroundings - including a garden dedicated just to cactuses. If you do choose to propose here, don’t get too caught up in admiring the panoramic scenery and forget to ask the question!

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook

If you’re feeling up for a hike, you can find a unique perspective of the LA basin from the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. If you do choose to take the slightly intimidating 282 steps to the top instead of the more meandering hike, you might want to wait until your partner has gotten their breath back before taking out the ring. If you’re looking for a place to overlook LA by night, aim to arrive for sunset and you’ll be able to see the city light up beneath you - but make sure you bring a torch for the journey back down.

Romantic parks

There are 181 parks in LA - plenty of opportunities to throw down a picnic blanket, break open some wine and set the scene for the big question. With so many parks to choose from, we thought we’d do a quick rundown of our five favorites and their top features.

  • Hermosa Natural Park - ampitheater; grassy meadows; picnic area
  • Grand Park - fountains; programmed events; community terrace
  • Palisades Park - ocean view; art installations; rare palm trees
  • Lake Hollywood Park - reservoir; barbeque pits; Hollywood sign view
  • Descanso Gardens - botanical garden; ponds and steams; rose garden

Make your proposal a work of art

The Arts District in Downton LA is the perfect canvas for a creative proposal. This area is full of galleries, decorated with stunning murals, and home to artisanal markets, cool eateries, and a jazzy (literally) nightlife. If you’re looking for a proposal spot that is modern but not mundane, you might want to consider taking a stroll through this area in search of inspiration.

In this location there’s also the possibility of hiring a creative studio to decorate however you wish, giving you complete control over your proposal space. Flood the room in candlelight, or cover every surface with romantic flowers -  you know what will make your partner weak at the knees.

We have a proposal for you

We love love, and if there’s any way our flowers can play a part in ramping up your romance we’re happy to help. What might start out as a simple bouquet of thinking of you flowers can one day lead to anniversary flowers - and we’d be honored to tag along for the ride. Order flowers from French Florist by 2pm for same-day local delivery across Los Angeles.

Have we already played a part in your romantic endeavors?

If you’ve used French Florist flowers to tell someone you love them, let us know! We’d love nothing more than to see the love stories that have sprouted thanks to our beautiful blooms.
