Killzone Shadow Fall

PlayStation and Guerrilla Games’ Killzone franchise was once so popular, it outranked the Halo series in the minds of many first-person shooter fans. The main series comprised three games, with a few spinoffs for platforms like the PSP and PS Vita. However, it’s been several years since the PlayStation 4 series entry Killzone: Shadow Fall was released in 2013, and the game fell short of expectations. This, along with Guerrilla Games’ focus on the Horizon franchise, led to rumors that the Killzone series was “dead.” However, recent comments from the game’s composer suggest that might not be entirely true.

Though the franchise hasn’t seen a new entry in over ten years, many Killzone fans remain hopeful for the future of the series. The online servers for Killzone: Shadow Fall shut down back in 2022, though gamers can still revisit the single-player offline versions of the game. Gamers can also revisit earlier Killzone games via streaming with PlayStation Plus, but for many fans, that’s not enough. Gamers would love to see a remaster make the original Killzone games they know and love more accessible. And recently, Killzone composer Joris de Man told VideoGamer he’d love to see it happen.

The Killzone subreddit remains fairly active to this day, with fans sharing details of replaying the games or even experiencing them for the first time. And fairly often, posts like the one above pop up, with fans dreaming about what they’d like to see in a reboot. Though Killzone remasters are far from official, the recent comments from the game composer suggest it hasn’t been as fully abandoned as previously believed.

Guerrilla Games Could Remaster Killzone… Some Day

In his comments to VideoGamer, Joris de Man noted that he’d like to see a remaster of the game, and that he believes Killzone reboots “would be successful”. That said, he did also note he’s not sure “it if will ever happen” but hopes it will. Though de Man did work with Guerrilla on the music and sound design for the Killzone series, he is not formally a part of the developer studio. That means his comments might carry some insight from his work with the team but are unfortunately not anything official.

That said, Guerrilla did recently release a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn, another of their popular franchises. And with the LEGO Horizon Adventures spinoff released late last year, it’s certainly time for Guerrilla Games to reveal its next major project. Though the studio has previously made comments that they “needed to refresh the palette” and were, back in October 2024, feeling “done with” the series, those comments did not outright exclude ever returning to the Killzone IP. Instead, it’s possible the studio will be ready to revisit the series after taking time to work on other projects, which would allow them to return to Killzone with a fresh perspective on what a remaster would look like.

As for brand new entries in the series, de Man didn’t feel optimistic that the studio would be likely to try it. He suggests that what people want in games may have changed a bit too much in the last decade to make a brand-new Killzone entry succeed. However, first-person shooters are still quite popular with gamers, and there’s clearly an interest in more Killzone content, even if it’s just a remaster. At any rate, it looks like at least some people involved with the project would be interested in revisiting it. Whether or not Guerrilla Games as a developer agrees is still up for debate.

Would you be excited to see a Killzone remaster from Guerrilla Games and/or Sony? Let us know in the comments below!

PlayStation 5 owners have spent the last few months patiently awaiting news about Indiana Jones and the Great Circle‘s release on the platform. While the game arrived as a timed exclusive on Xbox and PC last year, there has been a lingering question about when the game would get a release on Sony’s system. That question was answered this morning, as Bethesda has confirmed an April 17th release date on PS5. A standard edition will be offered, and there will also be a premium edition, as well as a collector’s bundle. These seem to be the same options offered last year on Xbox, with the collector’s bundle even including the same globe replica.

To announce the release date, Bethesda and PlayStation teamed up in a very interesting way, bringing together 2 adventurers spanning different franchises. In a trailer, Indiana Jones voice actor Troy Baker finds himself summoned to a meeting by none other than Nolan North. North is the voice actor that portrays Nathan Drake in Sony’s Uncharted games, which were largely inspired by the Indiana Jones movies. As the 2 adventurers bond over discovering artifacts and taking down military forces, North welcomes Baker to the PlayStation club. The trailer can be found below.

All in all, this was a pretty clever way of officially announcing the date! Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was one of the biggest games of 2024, and overall reception was very positive. For Indiana Jones fans, the game offered an experience that felt authentic to the films, even without series star Harrison Ford (who did provide his likeness, if not the character’s voice). The release on PS5 will allow a much wider audience a chance to see what the game has to offer, and that’s a very good thing.

While a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has not been announced just yet, reports suggest that Disney is very happy with how the game came out, and wants to see more from Bethesda in the future. Considering the mixed reception to the last 2 Indiana Jones films, it seems like a natural way to keep the character alive and well in popular culture, especially if Bethesda can maintain a similar level of quality.

The release window for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle actually leaked several weeks ago, so today’s announcement isn’t a total surprise. What is surprising is that it’s happening just 2 weeks before another PS5 release from Xbox. Following the PS5 release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on April 17th, Forza Horizon 5 will also make the jump to the console on April 29th. Forza Horizon 5 was similarly well-received upon its release back in 2021, so PS5 owners have quite a bit to look forward to from Microsoft next month.

According to a new report, a God of War spin-off is in the works for PS5, and it’s being made by Santa Monica Studios, the studio behind the God of War series. This is obviously great news for God of War fans on PS5 and PS5 Pro, however, the new report, at the same time, casts doubt on the plethora of rumors that have been saying a remastered collection of the older God of War games is happening.

The new report comes the way specifically of Jeff Grubb, one of the most prominent industry insiders and one that is typically reliable, though his track record of leaks and inside information is not bulletproof. In other words, he has been wrong in the past, but not often.

Unfortunately, Grubb does not have many details on the game, but calls it a “side-story” and claims that it will take Kratos back to Greece, the setting of the series before God of War 2018 took the series north and to Norse mythology.

“OK. Everyone keeps asking about this, so I’ve tried to find out more: There’s still a Greek God of War thing coming out this year, but it’s not a remaster collection. It’s a new side-story project,” claims Grubb. “I was never told about a Remaster collection, but I asked a source about the rumors (that I saw were focused on a collection) and they told me that nothing God of War would happen at the State of Play but something could show up at the anniversary.”

Of course, take this information with a grain of salt. That said, if this report is accurate, it sounds like God of War fans are getting something akin to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is to say something that is between a standalone expansion and a proper sequel.

At the moment of publishing, neither Santa Monica Studios nor PlayStation have commented on this report and the speculation it has spawned. We do not expect this to change for a variety of reasons, however, if it does we will update the story accordingly.

PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS5 have less than one month to play one of 2024’s best games for free, or at least some PlayStation Plus subscribers do. Right now, the game in question is free via PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, specifically. It is not free via PS Plus Essential, and it won’t be free via the other two tiers for much longer. Right now, there is no word of what exact date the game will be removed from these two respective libraries, however, the removal should happen sometime in the middle of April.

Meanwhile, those on PS4 don’t have to worry about this imminent deadline because the game is not available on PS4, even to subscribers of PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium. As for the game in question, it is a metroidvania that boasts a 91 on Metacritic, which makes it one of the top 10 highest rated games of last year.

To couple its great Metacritic score, the metroidvania was nominated for Best Indie Game and Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards. More notable than this, it won the Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction at the 28th annual D.I.C.E. awards.

For those that have not connected the dots, the free PlayStation Plus game in question is Animal Well from solo developer Billy Basso and publisher Bigmode, both which debuted with the release.

“In Animal Well there is more than what you see,” reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Store, for those unfamiliar with it. “Explore a dense interconnected labyrinth, and unravel its many secrets. Collect items to manipulate your environment in surprising and meaningful ways. Encounter creatures both beautiful and unsettling, and try to survive what lurks in the dark.”

For those that check out Animal Well for as long as it is available via some tiers of PS Plus should expect a game that is about 7 to 17 hours long, depending on variables such as completion rate and player skill. Those without a PS Plus Extra or PS Plus Premium subscription need to fork over $24.99 for this content.

The PlayStation Store currently has one of the best video game trilogies on sale for $5.99, thanks to a 90 percent discount. This means rather than pay $60 for the trilogy, PS4 and PS5 users can pay essentially $2 a game and save $54. That said, this PSN deal is only available for a limited time. More specifically, those that wish to grab this trilogy for just $5.99 on the PlayStation Store will need to act before March 27, when the PS4 and PS5 sale ends. Meanwhile, it’s worth noting the trilogy in question comes with an EA Play subscription, however, those with access to the trilogy with EA Play do not actually own the game, and will not be able to play it after their subscription expires. To this end, the new PS Store deal is notable even for EA Play subscribers currently with access to the trilogy.

As for the video game trilogy, it comes specifically the way of BioWare and EA. The former is known for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Dragon Age, and of course Mass Effect. What the best work of BioWare is has been a debate for years, but many agree it is the original Mass Effect trilogy. Those on PS4 and PS5 that have never checked out the sci-fi RPG series are in luck, because it is the aforementioned $5.99 PlayStation Store.

More specifically, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is on sale for just $5.99 on the PS Store. This is the 2021 release from EA and BioWare that remastered the PS3-era trilogy and bundled together not just each game, but all DLC for all three games: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. And this is particularly noteworthy because the DLC content — such as Citadel and Lair of the Shadow Broker — is some of the best content in the series.

Those on PS4 and PS5 that decide to take advantage of this PlayStation Store deal and check out Mass Effect Legendary Edition should expect to dump somewhere between 60 hours to 140 hours of time into the collection, with the large variance coming down to playstyle, difficulty, ability, and completion rate. To this end, even those that rush through the game and mainline just the main campaign are roughly getting ten hours of content for every $1.

With a new Mass Effect game currently in development at BioWare, and expected to tie into this trilogy in a substantial way, now is a good time to dive into some of the best RPGs ever released.

God of War fans across PS4 and PS5 have been surprised with a free PSN download that has arrived alongside the new God of War Ragnarok Anniversary Update. The new update is obviously limited to PS5 users, because it is limited to God of War Ragnarok. Meanwhile, this new free PSN download is not limited to God of War Ragnarok, and thus available to not just PS5 and PS5 Pro users, but PS4 users as well.

How long the new free God of War download is going to be available via the PlayStation Network, remains to be seen. The lack of information on availability perhaps suggests that the freebie is going to be available perpetually. Whatever the case, it is available right now for whoever wants it.

More specifically, Santa Monica Studios and PlayStation have released a new and free God of War 20th Anniversary avatar for all PS4 and PS5 users to download and use, no PS Plus required.

Unfortunately, the avatar does not feature the series’ protagonist, Kratos, but rather is a new gold design of the God of War logo. To this end, it is great for those who prefer a more simplistic PSN avatar.

Those interested in the new God of War freebie — which can be seen below — will need the following code to download it: F27X-L946-8PTH. This is the code for North America at least. Europeans will need the following code, meanwhile: HMCJ-N3JM-4TT2. Lastly, here are the codes for Japan, Korea, and Asia, respectively: 6F3K-RR8X-2KEM, HRLN-L4AG-88GD, and 8RC3-DEFT-NJPC. Right now, these are the only regions where the freebie is available.

While some God of War fans are grateful for a freebie, others are unimpressed that this avatar and the aforementioned God of War Raganrok update is all PlayStation has showed up with for the series’ 20th anniversary. That said, it’s important to remember there are a plethora of rumors claiming that it is preparing to release a remastered collection this year. If these rumors don’t come to fruition, and this is all God of War fans do get, it will surely be a measly celebration of a milestone year for one of the biggest PlayStation series.

If you’re a fan of the early adventures of Lara Croft, or someone that has never played the first games in the series, there’s a great opportunity to do just that. Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics announced a sale today that will last from March 19th through the 26th. During that time, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered will be discounted by 25%. As a result, the collection will be temporarily priced at $22.49, down from its normal $29.99. The catch is, the collection is only discounted on PlayStation platforms, for one reason or another. It’s possible we could see similar discounts in the future on Switch, Xbox, and Steam, but users on those platforms are currently out of luck.

That discount is notable, as Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered just came out last month. In addition to that temporary price drop, PlayStation users can also claim the first 3 games in the series for even cheaper. During that same time frame, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered will see a more substantial price drop; the collection is currently 50% off, making it $14.99. For less than $40, you can get remasters of the first 6 games in the Tomb Raider series. It’s a steep drop, and the perfect excuse to see what the series has to offer.

Fortnite 2000s Tomb Raider
lara croft just got a new skin in fortnite earlier this month

The timing of the Tomb Raider sale honestly couldn’t be better. Lara Croft just recently received a new skin in Fortnite, which is seemingly based on the character’s appearance in Tomb Raider VI: Angel of Darkness. If you’re a fan of that particular look for the character, you can play the game it debuted in for a relatively small amount of money. It’s hard to say how many Fortnite players are willing to see what the actual Tomb Raider series has to offer, but clearly Crystal Dynamics isn’t letting this opportunity go to waste.

If you’re looking for more recent games featuring the character, there are other options included in the sale. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition normally costs $19.99 and now has an 80% discount, knocking it to just $3.99. The sequel, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, is also 80% off, and can be obtained for $7.99. These games feature a version of Lara Croft that’s a little more realistic than the one that appeared in the classic PlayStation titles, and some Tomb Raider purists like them less for that reason. However, both were critically-acclaimed upon release.

Crystal Dynamics is in the planning stages for a major Tomb Raider renaissance, with many new projects in the works. Not only is there a new game in development, but also an Amazon series, which will feature actress Sophie Turner in the lead role. It’s hard to say how far along these projects are, but if you’re looking for a Lara Croft fix a little bit earlier, this sale should help to tide you over.

The return of a 2008 PS2 game has leaked for the second time, this time confirming the re-release on PS4 and PS5. More than this, the PS2 game will re-release not just on the PlayStation Store for anyone who wishes to purchase it, but it will be a free download for those with a PS Plus Premium subscription. The return of 17-year-old PS2 game first leaked back in February after it was rated for release by the Taiwanese Rating Board. This was obviously suspicious enough to conclude the game was returning. And now we know it is returning soon based on a follow-up leak.

Typically, rating board leaks themselves indicate an imminent release, however, the Taiwanese Rating Board is an exception to this rule as it sometimes rates games for release long before they ever release. However, building upon this leak, trophies for the PS2 game have leaked on PSN. This not only confirms the re-release is happening, but confirms it is happening soon because trophies are only submitted to PSN for approval when said game is nearing release.

The PS2 game in question is a 2008 release from developer Heavy Iron Studios and publisher THQ, the latter of which licensed the game from Disney. More specifically, the PS2 game is WALL-E, which is the official video game adaptation of the movie of the same name.

Now, this game was also available on PS3 an PSP, but we know it is the PS2 version for a couple reasons. One, PS3 games are not re-released via the PlayStation Classics program. Meanwhile, the PSP version can be ruled out because some of the trophies contain content that is not available in the PSP version. To this end, as True Trophies points out, the PS2 version is the superior version compared to the PSP version.

Now, it is possible this is a random re-release not related to the PlayStation Classics program. However, this would buck expectation as the vast majority of PS2 re-releases have been part of this program. Meanwhile, Disney games, in particular, have been a huge partner of this program. And if it is related to the PlayStation Classics program, then it will be free via PS Plus Premium in addition to available for purchase on the PlayStation Store.

At the moment of publishing, none of the implicated parties have commented on this pair of leaks. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly.

Sony is cracking down on offensive PSN content with some new changes. More specifically, Sony has announced a new feature it calls “Nudge,” which it hopes will “reduce exposure to potentially offensive content” on the PlayStation Network. Right now, the feature has not been widely and broadly released, but rather Sony has opted for a “limited and randomized deployment” in both the United States and the United Kingdom. How limited this deployment is, exactly, it does not say.

With this new feature, Sony says it gives players the “second chance” to review any content sent via PSN messgaing that may be harmful to others before the content is sent. This is specifically offered via the PlayStation App chat, and allows said PSN users to edit this content.

From here, PSN users will have the chance to edit the content so it does not flag this system. If they do this, there will be no further review by any employee or moderator beyond this automated response. If they decide to bypass this suggestion and send the content anyway, then they run the risk of this happening, though, right now, it is only if the message is reported by the receiver, which is how it currently works.

As noted this is a limited rollout. More specificslly, only “randomly selected messages” that potentially violent the Code of Conduct violations will be flagged and experience this new system.

“By receiving the nudge, the player is able to pause, reconsider, and edit their message before it is sent to the other player,” says Sony of the new initiative. “The player can still choose to send the message in its original state. We hope that players can treat Nudges as technology similar to object detection technology in cars, empowering players to take corrective action and avoid mistakes before they happen.”

It remains to be seen what will come of this feature and when it will be universally released. Sony does not provide any of these specifics. That said, what it does note is that “positive play is a cornerstone of PlayStation” and that it wants to “contribute to more fun-loving conversations between players.” In other words, it sounds like this won’t be the final measure it takes. For now though, this new Nudge feature has not only been restricted to random and limited use, but is limited to the PlayStation App, and thus not a part of PSN messaging on PS5 and PS4 consoles themselves.

“Through trial features like nudges and other enhanced safety features, we will continue exploring new and existing technology to improve player experiences on PlayStation so that it continues to be The Best Place to Play, and the best place to interact and engage with other players,” says Sony.

A classic PS1 game that released all the way back in 1997 is now confirmed to return on modern platforms in the form of a new remaster soon. By all accounts, 1997 might have been the best year that the PS1 ever saw. It was a year filled with fantastic releases for the original PlayStation and included the likes of Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Grand Theft Auto, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Mega Man Legends, Gran Turismo, Bushido Blade, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, and Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back amongst many, many others. While some of these PS1 games mentioned have already received remasters of their own in the decades since they originally launched, it’s one popular platformer that is now set to get the same treatment in mere weeks.

Announced today by Argonaut Games, the studio unveiled that its remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos will be releasing next month on April 2nd. Originally released in September 1997, Croc was one of many platformers that launched on the PS1 during the console’s run. While it doesn’t have the same name-recognition as franchises like Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot, Croc is still a cult-classic that many look back fondly upon to this day.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos will become easier than ever to play as this remaster won’t just be coming to PS5 and PS4, but also Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This release of the Croc remaster has also been a long time coming as the project was first announced back in 2023. The remaster was then set to arrive in late 2024, but Argonaut Games had to delay the project once again at the last minute. Fortunately, for those who are tired of waiting for this return from Croc, it will now finally drop in a little over two weeks.

To see more of what this remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos will entail, you can check out its latest trailer and description below.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos

Croc Legend of the Gobbos is the heartwarming journey of an endearing, humble little crocodile equipped with only his iconic backpack and a wiggly butt as he platforms his way across a series of unique worlds by running, jumping, climbing, swimming and tail spinning on his quest to rescue his adopted family of Gobbos from the grasp of the evil sorcerer Baron Dante and his impish Dantini hordes.

With its broad appeal and groundbreaking creativity, the original game quickly became a multi-million selling platforming classic, and while the Croc Legend of the Gobbos remaster delivers an authentic gameplay experience that transports players back to the golden age of gaming, it also introduces a roster of modern updates including enhanced HD graphics, modern control mechanics with an updated camera, and retro video modes to recreate the gaming experience that charmed us in the 1990s.

Dive into a beautifully recreated world filled with vibrant colors, captivating landscapes, and playful challenges which will ignite your imagination. The Croc Legend of the Gobbos remaster offers an authentic blend of nostalgia and modern gameplay, ensuring a gaming experience that pays homage to the original while inviting a new generation to discover its timeless magic.”

PlayStation is now confirmed to have quietly opened a new studio that is part of the PlayStation Studios banner. In recent years, Sony has been shutting down more companies that belong to PlayStation Studios than it has been establishing new ones. Developers like Firewalk Studios, Japan Studio, London Studio, Neon Koi, and Pixelopus have all shut down or have been overhauled in some capacity since 2021. And while Sony has been trying to shore up its first-party offering by acquiring companies like Bungie, Insomniac Games, and Bluepoint Games, it has now chosen to establish a new studio behind the scenes.

Coming by way of Jason Blundell, who is best known for his work on the Call of Duty franchise, news regarding this new PlayStation studio was shared for the first time. In an interview with The Jeff Gerstmann Show, Blundell said that his new venture is called Dark Outlaw. Blundell said that Dark Outlaw is officially part of PlayStation Studios but has been operating “in the shadows” for quite some time. When it comes to what Dark Outlaw is making, Blundell didn’t provide specifics but he clarified that the company is still largely getting off the ground and is in the hiring process.

“The studio is called Dark Outlaw Games,” Blundell said. “We’ve been working away in the shadows for a while, when we’ve got something to talk about we’ll step out into the light. The story for me is about the game, not about the studio. So the reason we’re not doing a fanfare or shouting about it from the rooftops is like, let’s get something.”

“It’s such a privilege to be able to do it with Sony as a new first-party studio,” he continued. “Sony doesn’t start up first-party studios all the time, so to have that privilege is humbling.”

News of Blundell starting this new studio at PlayStation isn’t much of a shock given what has happened in recent years. Previously, Blundell had established Deviation Games in 2021, which had partnered with PlayStation to create its first game. For one reason or another, though, Blundell left the company in 2022 and Deviation ultimately shut down in 2024. Despite this, PlayStation itself still seemed to want to work with Blundell and was reported in 2024 to have signed him directly with the goal of establishing a new internal developer. Now, we know that those previous reports were accurate and have resulted in Dark Outlaw Games.

For now, it sounds like Dark Outlaw is going to keep being quiet in the years ahead. Until it is ready to show off its first project, which is presumed to be a live-service shooter, we likely won’t see or hear anything else from Dark Outlaw. Still, it’s exciting to hear that PlayStation Studios is growing and is being led by a director with vast experience in the gaming industry.

The showrunner of the upcoming God of War TV series on Prime Video has shared some surprising new info on the show. Announced in late 2022, work on this adaptation of 2018’s God of War has continued quietly behind the scenes for over two years. It wasn’t until a few months back that news on the series finally broke as Ronald Moore, the former showrunner of Battlestar Galactica and Outlander, was revealed to now be in charge of the adaptation. And while it seems like God of War is still pretty far from landing on Prime Video, it sounds like Amazon is already keen on what Moore and company are doing on the project.

Speaking on The Sackhoff Show, Moore talked briefly about his ongoing work on God of War. Specifically, Moore said that Amazon has already picked up God of War for two seasons on Prime Video, which isn’t something that has been said before. Beyond this, Moore said that writing is continuing on God of War for the time being and is a process that he’s aiding with. Once these scripts for the TV series are finalized, it’s assumed that casting and production will finally begin to kick into gear.

“Right now I’m working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War,” Moore said. “It’s a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of. They’ve asked me to come in and I’m literally in the writers’ room working on that.”

For Amazon to have already picked up God of War for two seasons suggests that the company has a lot of confidence in what it has seen so far. In all likelihood, God of War is going to be very expensive to produce and should become one of the most costly shows on Prime Video. Despite this, Amazon sounds like it has no doubt that the series will be a success which is why it has ordered two seasons right away.

As for his own familiarity with God of War, Moore went on to say that he’s been unable to play the various games in the series due to his inadequacy with PlayStation controllers. Moore, who is 60 years old, said that he grew up playing games in arcades but hasn’t been able to transition to gaming on modern consoles purely due to getting confused with its button and thumbstick layout. Despite this unfamiliarity, Moore’s own history of working on shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Outlander, For All Mankind, and numerous others indicates that he’s a fantastic person to have in charge of this God of War adaptation.

At the time of this writing, God of War still doesn’t have a release date or window of any sort from Amazon. Hopefully, before 2025 comes to an end, we’ll finally start to have more concrete info on the highly-anticipated project.

PlayStation Plus subscribers claim they are enjoying a major new, and controversial, game that was recently made free to subscribers across all tiers. Whether a PS Plus Essential subscriber, a PS Plus Extra subscriber, or a PS Plus Premium subscriber, the game in question is free to download and keep as long an active subscription is maintained, otherwise access is stripped away until a subscription is renewed.

The game in question was added earlier this month as one of March’s free PlayStation Plus games. And the addition came as a surprise, because it was only back in October the game was released. That said, while the game is fairly new, and while it was a major release, it also proved to be a major flop, which is how it ended up free on PlayStation Plus within a handful of months. The game we are talking about, for those that haven’t connected the dots, is Dragon Age: The Veilguard from EA and BioWare.

At the release of the new Dragon Age game, and since then, much of the conversation has been about how poor it has performed commercially, how terrible its writing is, and how it’s a far cry from what Dragon Age fans have come to expect from the series. In other words, it’s been a complete flop. That said, according to a new PlayStation Plus Reddit post, its negatives are perhaps overstated.

“I can’t be the only one who’s really enjoying this game,” reads one of the top posts on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page this weekend.” I can see it’s not worth full price for some people and the story and writing is average but not really super bad or cringey. But the gameplay is super fun. Using your abilities to do insane combo is just a blast. Solving little puzzles for chest is also fun. Side quests are boring but gameplay just keeps you engaged with fighting bosses.”

Of course, given the game’s reputation, many of the comments strongly disagree, but there are comments that echo the sentiment. Meanwhile, the popularity of the post also suggests there is something to the claim. That said, even the positive comments acknowledge the writing and story are not good so those who prioritize this aspect of games probably are not going to enjoy the RPG.

Those that check out Dragon Age: The Veilguard via PS Plus should note it is only free to download until April 1. Once downloaded, RPG fans can expect to sink in anywhere between 27 to 80 hours with the variance coming down to factors such as completion rate, playstyle, difficulty setting, and skill level.

Sucker Punch Productions and Sony are currently working on a live-action Ghost of Tsushima movie to go along with an upcoming anime series, which is exciting to see, but what about the studio’s previous franchise Sly Cooper? Over the past decade, many have wanted to see Sly Cooper steal back the spotlight in the mainstream scene, whether it be as a PS5 remaster or a Sly Cooper 5 game. The latest installment saw the Cooper Gang together in 2013’s Sly Cooper: Thieves of Time for the PS3. Regardless, the series has not left the hearts of many fans, especially those who still wish to have seen the canceled Sly Cooper movie come to theaters. While this wish is pretty much sealed behind a lock-proof safe, there was a time when Sony and Sucker Punch were working on the 3D animated film, which even had a teaser trailer released.

The Sly Cooper movie was set to adapt Sucker Punch Production’s first installment of the series with Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. Announced in 2014 through a teaser trailer and PlayStation Blog post, the planned 3D animated movie was in production with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Escape from Planet Earth‘s Rainmaker Studios. Sly Cooper was expected to follow the adventures of Sly Cooper, Bentley Turtle, and Murray Hippo on a global trek across the world to learn about Sly’s family secrets. The film would have also featured Clockwerk, the main villain in Thevius Racoonus and Sly Cooper 2: Band of Thieves, and Carmelita Fox.

There was a lot of attention brought to this project, with producer Brad Foxhoven noting that the team at Rainmaker perfected the look and feel of the series. Being that this was an adaptation, it was confirmed by Foxhoven that the studio was working closely with Sony and Sucker Punch Productions to keep the Sly Cooper film true to the stealth-action platforming franchise. The essence of the Sly Cooper games felt present in the 2-minute teaser trailer, which saw the gang racing across the city to get to a doughnut shop on time.

The Sly Cooper trailer brought back some familiar voices with Bentley and Murray’s voice actors Matt Olsen and Chris Murphy reprising their roles. While this felt nostalgic to some, the original Sly Cooper voice actor Kevin Miller confirmed that he was not asked to reprise his role, which instead went to Ian James Corlett. While the casting choice did cause some kickback from fans, Miller reassured that he was excited to see the role given to someone else to continue for years to come. However, the casting wasn’t finalized at the time of the teaser, and Miller did note that the movie might require A-list celebrities to voice the roles to appeal to the box office and audiences.

The teaser looked (and still looks) promising, as the animation quality was decent for its time. Although the trailer was released in 2014, it was scheduled to come to theaters in 2016. After two years of lurking in the shadows, then-director Kevin Munroe stated at WonderCon 2016 that the film hadn’t entered production yet, which is mostly due to the production of another Rainmaker video game adaptation based on a well-known Insomniac series: 2016’s Ratchet & Clank.

While Ratchet & Clank (2016) wasn’t successful, the series returned six years later with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PS5.

The box office performance of the 3D animated Ratchet & Clank movie, which features the likes of Sylvester (Sly) Stallone, John Goodman, Paul Giamatti, and Rosario Dawson, only grossed $14 million worldwide with a $20 million budget and received negative reviews from fans and critics. The film’s poor reception led to Rainmaker reconsidering Sly Cooper‘s budget and release, with the movie having had a second trailer in 2017 without a date attached. Unfortunately, Rainmaker left the project in December 2017, selling the rights to the Sly Cooper property thus vacating the roles of all attached. Since then, there have been no updates and the project has been shelved completely.

Seeing how the animation was similar to the game’s aesthetic, it’s a bummer that we will never see this project finished. It didn’t look too out of the box like we’ve seen in the past years, as it looked solely to pay respect to the Sucker Punch Production’s series. While there is the possibility of another animation studio picking it up, the trailer is all we have to look back on for now.

It’s been nearly 4 years since a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was first announced. There has not been a single screenshot or trailer released since, and there has been constant speculation that the game was quietly cancelled. Fortunately, it seems development is still underway, even if there isn’t anything new to share. In a newly published interview with Game File, Saber Interactive CEO Matt Karch affirmed that development continues, but had nothing else to share. Saber CCO Tim Willits also seemed to indirectly address the game in a post on X/Twitter, stating that “everything that we have talked about is still in development.”

The remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was originally in development at Aspyr. After reports of trouble with the game, development switched hands to Saber Interactive, another team owned by Embracer Group. Saber was then one of several teams sold off by Embracer in 2024. That’s a lot of upheaval, and fans can hardly be blamed for assuming the game had been cancelled. However, this is not the first time Saber has confirmed KOTOR‘s status; just last year, Karch also told IGN that “the game is alive and well.” Fans looking forward to the remake should be happy to have more recent confirmation, though.

the original version of kotor remains a beloved game

Knights of the Old Republic is often considered one of the greatest Star Wars games, and one of the overall best video games ever made. KOTOR still has a lot of fans, including Superman director James Gunn. Given that, there’s going to be a lot of pressure on the remake to deliver an experience that lives up to the name. There’s no way of knowing the next time we’ll actually get to see anything from it, but we’ll have to keep waiting until Saber Interactive and Disney have something new to show.

For the time being, Star Wars fans will have to settle for the original KOTOR games. Both games are playable on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile. For one reason or another, neither game has ever been made available on PlayStation. The remake of Knights of the Old Republic would have marked the first time the game was ever playable on a Sony platform, and it would have been a timed PS5 exclusive, as well. At this time, it’s unclear if that’s still part of the plan, but reports last year suggested that will no longer be the case.

Development on a AAA video game takes a lot of time. While it can be frustrating to see a game announced and not hear any kind of update for several years, that’s just a reality of the video game industry right now. Hopefully things are progressing nicely on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and when we do finally get to see it again, it will prove worth the wait.

Seth Rogen recently shared how Sony—the very studio that produced the iconic 2007 comedy Superbad—refused to let Jonah Hill’s character interact with a PlayStation console during filming. The ironic restriction came because executives deemed Hill’s character too “reprehensible” to be associated with their gaming hardware. This peculiar creative limitation becomes even more amusing, considering Hill’s character was actually based on a teenage Rogen himself, making the studio note not just a rejection of a fictional character but inadvertently an insult to one of the film’s creators. The anecdote is a fascinating glimpse into the strange decisions that occur behind the scenes in major film productions.

Speaking with Rotten Tomatoes at the SXSW premiere of his new Apple TV+ series The Studio, Rogen shared the humorous story when asked about the funniest studio note he’d ever received.

“Sony made the movie and we were told that Jonah Hill‘s character, Seth, was so reprehensible to the studio,” Rogen explained. “There’s a scene where they’re playing video games and it was like, ‘Jonah can’t touch a PlayStation.'”

“They were like, ‘We can’t have him interact with our products as a character, because it’s too vile a character,” The actor-writer continued. “And I was like, ‘It’s based on me, that’s very insulting.'”

The creative restriction is particularly ironic given that “Superbad” was distributed by Sony Pictures, making it a case of one division of the company restricting another. While many films feature product placement as a marketing strategy, this situation represents the opposite—a company actively preventing its product from being associated with a character they viewed negatively.

For those unfamiliar with the film’s origin story, Superbad holds a special place in Rogen’s career. He co-wrote the screenplay with his childhood friend Evan Goldberg when they were just teenagers. The script drew heavily from their own high school experiences in the 1990s, with the main characters even named Seth and Evan as a direct nod to its creators.

The comedy follows two awkward high school seniors attempting to lose their virginity before heading to college. Though raunchy and over-the-top at times, the film is now considered a classic coming-of-age story that balances wild comedy with genuine heart.

Despite the PlayStation restriction, Rogen noted that the production “accommodated” Sony’s request. Viewers with a keen eye might notice that while Michael Cera‘s character Evan does play The Getaway: Black Monday on a PlayStation 2 in an early scene, Hill’s character Seth never touches the console.

Superbad went on to become a massive hit despite—or perhaps partly because of—its “reprehensible” lead character, launching Hill into stardom with his first leading role. The film has maintained its popularity over the years, with producer Judd Apatow later revealing he had hoped for a sequel set during the characters’ college years, though Hill reportedly suggested they should wait until they were “70 or 80” to revisit the roles.

As for Rogen, he clearly holds no grudges about the backhanded corporate insult, sharing the story with his trademark humor as he promotes his latest project.

The PlayStation Store has a new sale, and this new sale has a deal for one of the best games of all time. And courtesy of this deal, PS4 and PS5 users can grab one of the best games of all time for just $7.99. That said, this deal is only available for a limited time or, more specifically, until March 18. This applies to every deal available through the new Weekend Offer sale on the PlayStation Store.

The new PS Store flash sale has 131 different discounts for PS4 and PS5 users, however, only 20 of these deals are for actual full games. In other words, the vast majority of the deals are for DLC, add-ons, and microtransactions. The majority of the 20 deals featured are pretty noteworthy though.

Perhaps the most noteworthy deal is for one of not just the best games on the PlayStation Store, but one of the best games of all time. This game being BioShock. The deal is specifically for the 2016 remaster not the original that hit back in 2007 to a 96 on Metacritic and universal praise. Normally, BioShock Remastered costs $19.99, but via this new PS Store sale it has a 60 percent discount. There are also similar deals for all the other BioShock games for those that want to check out the entire series. Meanwhile, there are even more similar deals for other games and series such as Borderlands, Mafia, GTA, Metro, Kingdom Come, and Steelrising.

Starfield on PS5

Despite mixed reviews for Bethesda’s outer-space adventure, many gamers have been eagerly waiting for Starfield to arrive on PS5 consoles. Bethesda’s reputation for games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and prior Elder Scrolls titles leaves gamers eager to see their venture into the galaxy, regardless of Starfield’s lukewarm reception. Those who love the game truly love it, but Bethesda’s latest game is still missing a massive chunk of its potential audience. Starfield launched as an Xbox console exclusive, meaning that gamers with a Sony console at home still haven’t made the journey to space.

It’s no secret that Microsoft and Xbox Games are moving away from the console-exclusive model. The company has mentioned a “multi-platform” approach for more of its catalog moving forward, though PS5 owners will note that highly-anticipated RPG Avowed did launch as an Xbox exclusive this year. Nevertheless, more and more former Xbox exclusives are making their way to PlayStation consoles, leaving Bethesda fans eager to see Starfield join the list. In fact, gamers have kept a close eye out for clues about a potential PS5 release.

Starfield Spaceship
Starfield may travel to a new console this year

The latest hint towards a Starfield release on PS5 comes from reputable leaker NateTheHate, who shared his sentiments via the ResetEra forums. As Nate puts it, “Starfield coming to PS5 is a matter of when, not if.” This comment was made in response to a post about a Starfield Creation that included the PlayStation logo, leading fans to suspect the PS5 release of Starfield is on the horizon.

Bethesda Isn’t Giving up on Starfield Just Yet

Given the mixed reception to Starfield at launch and the overwhelming disappointment with its first DLC, it would hardly be surprising to see Bethesda abandon the venture. After all, fans are eagerly waiting on The Elder Scrolls 6, and the developer could certainly put more eggs in that basket. But the increasing likelihood that they’re working to bring the game to PlayStation users isn’t the only news from the Starfield galaxy in recent weeks.

Bethesda recently confirmed it is working on new, “exciting things” for Starfield. Despite relative silence in recent months, the @StarfieldGame account on X recently shared that the team is still working on new projects related to the game. This likely includes long-rumored new DLC for Stafield – a big ask given how poorly Shattered Space was received.

Starfield certainly looks cool

That said, expanding the game to a whole new set of users via a PS5 release could well be a part of Bethesda’s plans to improve the game’s reputation. That promise of exciting things to come for Starfield in 2025 might well include plans to bring the game to PS5, where it could find new fans who will appreciate the empty vastness of space that many Xbox and PC players found lacking.

Although NateTheHate has been right about many rumors and leaks before, his comment about “when, not if” doesn’t really narrow in on a timeline for Starfield on PS5. If Bethesda truly has big plans for the game this year, it would be a bit of a surprise if that didn’t include trying to find a wider audience for the game through a new platform.

Would you give Starfield a go when and if it arrives on PS5, or has the mixed reception bumped it off your list? Let us know in the comments below!

People Can Fly

Sony has partnered with People Can Fly to work on unannounced video game, rivaling Microsoft calling on the studio to work on Gears of War: E-Day. The game development studio has worked on numerous iconic games throughout the years. Some of the most notable include Gears of War and Gears of War: Judgement, but also Bulletstorm and Outriders. Microsoft announced earlier this year that People Can Fly would be working with The Coalition to co-developer the upcoming Gears of War game, but this announcement shows just how versatile the in-demand studio is. Not only is People Can Fly working on a popular and iconic Xbox series, but it seems Sony is also tapping the developer in to work on one of its upcoming titles.

People Can Fly has many projects in the works, with Gears of War: E-Day being one. The studio is also assisting Sony in developing a game based on an existing IP.

Sony and People Can Fly are partnering to develop a game based on an existing IP, and have used the Codename Delta. The team has been hired with the following information.

“Work on the product [codenamed Project Delta] will be carried out in the so-called work-for-hire model, i.e. work performed […] on behalf of and for the Publisher.”

With no word given as to what IP is being worked on, fans have begun theorizing what they can expect. The existing IP clue has led to various suggestions such as SOCOM, Warhawk, and even Killzone. Given People Can Fly’s specialty in shooter games, these all seem like probable candidates.

It remains to be seen what Project Delta will be. Sony has backed off its stance on live service games after Concord’s flop, so players can likely expect either a multiplayer shooter or a single-player shooter. Given the history of the Gears of War series and the studio’s involvement there, it is likely People Can Fly is working on a similar project for Sony.

With funding from Sony, People Can Fly can let its creativity shine and create something special using the foundations of what it learned from previous games like Outriders and Bulletstorm. Sony also appears to have significant control of the project, so it will likely make all final decisions and oversee People Can Fly’s work.

People Can Fly's Outriders
People Can Fly’s Outriders

With numerous IPs to choose from, Sony and People Can Fly could be working on any number of franchises. Without more concrete information, it is impossible to pinpoint exactly where the studios are colluding. From the report, it seems People Can Fly is building a team to work under Sony while the existing team assists Microsoft with Gears of War: E-Day.

Hopes are high for this partnership, especially after reports Sony is planning to revisit old IPs. People Can Fly may be one of many studios helping Sony with this project, which would be promising when reviving an old series that hasn’t seen a new game in years. If this is the case, fans will likely see more partnerships like this emerging over time.

A PS4 exclusive has officially shut down and is now gone forever. The game in question was notably one of the final PS4 exclusives, releasing in 2019 in the final full year before the PS5 released. Then in 2021, the PS4 game came to Nintendo Switch, but only in Japan, and then in 2024 this version of the game was removed from sale and shut down, making the game a full PS4 exclusive again. Now it’s exclusive to nothing because it is now available on nothing. Not only can PS4 users no longer buy the game, but they can’t play it in any capacity.

Those playing on PS4 back in 2019 will remember the headline PS4 exclusive was Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, which is getting a sequel very soon. The other headline PS4 exclusive that year was Days Gone. Beyond this, there were smaller releases like Dreams and Concrete Genie, but nothing else on the level of Death Stranding or Days Gone.

One of these other smaller PS4 exclusives was Caravan Stories from developer Aiming. Where the free-to-play fantasy RPG found an audience in Asia though, it failed to gain much traction in the west. And now the opportunity to check it out is gone.

“We have always worked hard to ensure that we offer you, our customers, the best service we can,” read an announcement that was shared last year. “However, as we have determined that it is no longer possible to continue offering satisfactory service, we have made the decision to bring the service to an end. We wish to offer our sincere gratitude to all of you for your patronage thus far, and ask for your understanding with regard to the end of service.”

Unfortunately, it is unlikely this game will ever be available again on PlayStation platforms in any capacity. Sometimes games are able to survive a shutdown in a limited capacity at least as shelf decorations via physical release. However, Caravan Stories was only ever available via digitally.

A Nintendo Game Boy game is getting a remake this month, and in addition to PC, this remake will release on PS5. Given the heritage of the game, many assumed if it came to a console it would be the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. That said, it hasn’t been announced for either, but it was recently announced for PS5, and only the PS5, which makes it a PS5 console exclusive.

1990 was obviously a long time ago. 35 years to be exact. Those playing games in 1990 will remember releases such as Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Super Mario World, Final Fantasy III, Dr. Mario, Dragon Quest IV, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, F-Zero, Mega Man 3, and Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos. It was a different era of gaming, and an era that featured far fewer video game releases than the modern day.

What also released in 1990 was the Game Boy port of a 1987 release, Bubble Ghost. The Game Boy version was specifically done by developer Opera House but the original was made by ERE Informatique and published by Accolade. At first, it was an Atari ST game, but many know it by its final port in a string of ports that brought it to the Game Boy. On March 27, a remake of the game is releasing, and it will be on PC and PS5.

Being released by developer Nakama Game Studio and publisher Selecta Play, the remake, aptly titled Bubble Ghost Remake, completely redoes the game and the final product is something that looks nothing like a 1990 Game Boy game.

“In the old castle of the renowned inventor Heinrich Von Schinker, in northern England, Heinrich’s spirit returns as a small ghost,” reads an official description of the new release. “Alongside a mysterious bubble that he can move with gentle blows, he must face his own out-of-control inventions and fierce wild animals. Guiding the bubble to freedom is his only goal.”

It is currently unclear how much this remake will cost when it releases on March 27, but those interested in checking it out before then can do so via a free demo on Steam. Right now, this demo is not available on PS5 though.

As for the remake, if it is as long as the original game, then it will only take places roughly one hour to complete. If this is the case, then this will presumably be followed by a humble price point.

Over the past four years, the PS5’s DualSense controller has become available in lots of different colors for players who aren’t satisfied with the default black-and-white design. Although I like the Midnight Black and Volcanic Red versions of the controller as much as the next person, the DualSenses that truly stand out to me are the Special Edition ones themed around PS5 games. From God of War: Ragnarok to Astro Bot to even Concord, Sony ensures that many of its first-party releases have a DualSense controller to call their own.

These 11 DualSenses are rarer and more difficult to track down than your standard PS5 controller, so you’ll need to be enamored with the look of one of these Special Edition controllers if you want to go through all the effort to track it down. I’ve ranked how much I like the design of these controllers, from worst to best, to help you get started on that journey.

11. Fortnite

Maybe I’m too old of a zoomer to enjoy this aesthetic, but overall I find this Fortnite DualSense controller pretty gaudy. The graffiti-inspired art on the controller doesn’t look great or work well with the teal background, and the game title on the touchpad is outright ugly. Unless you’re the kind of gamer who does nothing but play Fortnite, you should buy so many other DualSense controllers instead of this one (including the Starlight Blue model this sullies).

10. LeBron James

LeBron James is a basketball player, not a PlayStation game, but he still has a DualSense controller to call his own. Although its inspirational phrases are better than the Fortnite logo and graffiti on the previous controller, this still feels like a more cluttered version of a base DualSense recolor. It’s tough to find nowadays, as it was from a limited promotion in 2023, but I don’t think it’s really worth the effort to track down.

9. The Last of Us

Sony’s latest DualSense controller isn’t one of its strongest. This one is themed around The Last of Us and is just meant to be a celebration of the franchise. It etches iconography of the series around a DualSense controller that reverses the traditional black-and-white coloring. I find it to be a little to look a little too corporate for such an intimate, emotional series, and I would’ve preferred a design inspired by Joel, Ellie, Abby, or a Clicker over this.

8. Hogwarts Legacy

Breakout hit Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy got a special DualSense controller, and it’s alright. It uses the Midnight Black version of the DualSense as a base and adorns it with gold streaks and a golden picture of Hogwarts on the touchpad. I’m sure diehard Harry Potter fans will get a kick out of this controller, but to me, this controller’s theming isn’t that interesting compared to the controllers further up on this list.

7. Monster Hunter Wilds

This Monster Hunter Wilds controller is similar to the Hogwarts Legacy design, putting some game-themed accents on an already available DualSense controller color. That said, the flower-like designs look prettier than a golden version of Hogwarts. Plus, this controller is a Japan-exclusive, which adds a bit more allure in regards to the elusiveness of getting my hands on one.

6. God of War: Ragnarok

The God of War: Ragnarok controller is pretty sleek and the first on this list not to feel like it’s just art being laid over an already available version of the DualSense. That said, the choice to feature a wolf and a bear instead of Kratos is a bit surprising and makes it so this is not instantly recognizable as a God of War controller. That may be good if you don’t want to go too hard on the theme, but I wish a little more of the series’ personality came through.

5. Helldivers 2

The Helldivers 2 controller fits the aesthetic of the game it’s based on permanently. The black-and-yellow color choice suits Helldivers, while the pre-fabbed stretch marks on the controller make it look like the DualSense made its way through a war zone. It’s a good purchase for fans of Helldivers 2 or those who treat their controllers poorly and would like those scratches to be part of the DualSense’s overall aesthetic.

4. 30th Anniversary

The 30th Anniversary edition of the DualSense controller might be pretty simple, but it’s a great throwback. It copies the grey coloring of the PS1’s controller, reverts the X, Square, Triangle, and O buttons to their original DualShock colors, and makes the home button the original PlayStation logo. Pick this one up if you enjoy retro gaming or are nostalgic for the earliest days of PlayStation.

3. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

The only DualSense on this list I’ve personally gone out of my way to buy, the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 controller is spectacular. It was a genius idea to pair the black and red models of the DualSense and make it look like the Symbiote was taking over the DualSense. It narratively connects to the game it’s based on while also clearly serving as an amazing Spider-Man-themed controller for fans of the Marvel character.

2. Concord

Firewalk Studios’ Concord may have been a flop, but its DualSense controller is one of the best Sony has ever produced. It has a colorful space-age aesthetic, like a cleaner version of the Helldivers 2 DualSense. It doesn’t feel too closely tied to the game, and it makes me want to play some sci-fi games just by looking at it. This is a rad controller and something that we can remember Concord by now that it’s delisted, never to be played again.

1. Astro Bot

Astro Bot was intentionally designed to represent PlayStation, so it’s no surprise that the character makes for an excellent DualSense design. Sporting a similar look to the DualSense that appears in the game, this controller utilizes crisp whites and blues that will make the controller stand out on your shelf. It also has some subtler detailing to make it look more robotic. Its vibes are so cheerful with this one, and Astro Bot itself is such a fantastic game that it makes sense that this would end up as the best DualSense controller.

For gamers who play PS5 or PS4, PlayStation Plus is a helpful subscription to play new games or be with friends. With hundreds of titles in the Games Catalog with PlayStation Plus Extra and even more in the Classics Catalog with PlayStation Plus Premium, there’s a lot to enjoy. However, there are tons of benefits and features that subscribers may not know they have access to, from trials for a plethora of new releases to a whole movie library to watch.

With that said, here are seven forgotten features that you should definitely check out if you subscribe to PS Plus:

Game Help

Game help on Playstation Plus can aid you in finding collectibles or beating levels.

We all have those moments of frustration when playing a game. A boss beating you too many times, you running around in circles to find a collectible, or maybe you don’t know what to do next. Fortunately, help is just a button press away. PlayStation Plus subscribers, for a select number of titles, can use the Game Help feature, which can be accessed via the Home menu. If a lightbulb is present near the objective, you can click on it to watch a video on how to complete it.

Furthermore, members of the community have contributed videos and walkthroughs to help struggling players, all without leaving the game. With tons of games nowadays with collectibles and big objectives like Astro Bot and Monster Hunter Wilds, having a guiding hand is much appreciated.

Exclusive Game Demo Trials (PS Plus Premium)

you can try out games like black myth: wukong with PlayStation plus’ game trials.

Wish you could try out some of the latest titles but don’t want to spend the money? Well, PlayStation Plus has you covered. For a select number of titles, timed trials are available for you to play, letting you test it out before you decide to purchase it. Some trials last for 30 minutes while others only go five to ten.

The titles aren’t just random games PlayStation has. A majority of them are big titles like Metaphor: ReFantazio, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Cyberpunk 2077. Even more so, they have trials for PlayStation’s own published titles, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Stellar Blade, and Black Myth: Wukong. It’s the perfect way to try out potential purchases and, if anything, play a ton of cool games.

Cloud Saves

Monster Hunter Wilds Multiplayer
You can save progress to the cloud to use anywhere with PlayStation Plus.

The unexpected can happen when you least expect it. For gamers, the risk of losing all your progress in a game, much less entire save files, sounds like a nightmare. Fortunately, PlayStation Plus has a remedy just for that very scenario: Cloud Saves. With these, the only thing you need to worry about is remembering to save.

Outside of saving your data to the Cloud for protection, this feature also lets you transfer it to different consoles. So, say you wanted to show off your Monster Hunter Wilds character at a friend’s house. With Cloud Saves, you’ll be able to access that save file if you log onto your friend’s PlayStation and start right where you left off. You never know when you’ll need it, so it’s good to know you have it.

Share Play + Share Watch

Have a friend help you beat that one level, like in elden ring, through Share play on Playstation plus.

Remember when you used to gather with your friends and watch a film or play a game all in the same room? While you may not be together, PlayStation Plus has a feature that can do both. With Share Watch, you can invite your online party to watch you stream your screen, whether you’re playing a new game or wanting to binge the latest season of a show. Meanwhile, Share Play lets another person in your party take over your game to play.

As you can imagine, there are a lot of benefits to these features. For example, many people on Reddit said they would use it to play new games they didn’t own, but their friends did. Others, on the other hand, let friends beat bosses in Elden Ring that they struggled with. While a great connection is needed for the party, it’s a feature that few know about but should definitely try.

PlayStation Store Discounts

Loads of exclusive discounts are available for PlayStation plus subscribers.

Gaming can be quite an expensive hobby these days and, with the dozens of games coming out, there’s a lot to choose from. Fortunately, PS Plus subscribers can save a bit of cash on titles with their exclusive discounts.

Much like Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll get deals unavailable to non-subscribers on a select amount of titles. It’s not just old games, as some newer titles can be found at discounted prices. This extends to deluxe editions and add-ons, which can sometimes be sold cheaper than normal. Furthermore, some upcoming titles can be purchased at a cheaper price if they have the PlayStation Plus logo next to them. It’s a definite money saver for those who want to fill their backlog but keep some change.

Sony Pictures Catalog (PS Plus Premium)

films like Spider-man and The Social Network are available for free with PlayStation plus.

With PlayStation being a Sony product, films are in the console’s blood. While there are tons of video games readily available to subscribers to play whenever, sometimes a good film is a nice change of pace. Well, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers get exclusive access to a library of movies free to watch, no questions asked.

As part of Sony Pictures Core, which streams the latest Sony films like Kraven the Hunter or Venom: The Last Dance, subscribers get over 100 movies to watch for no charge. Within the collection titles like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and The Social Network are available to stream at high quality. It definitely beats finding the right film on streaming services or renting one, so give it a try.

Perks

Apex legends and marvel Rivals get exclusive perks with PlayStation Plus.

As a PlayStation Plus member, you’ve likely taken the chance to play all the multiplayer games like Marvel Rivals or Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Well, you can get some exclusive cosmetics and add-ons for the games you play every day at no extra cost.

Titles like Apex Legends, Final Fantasy XIV Online, and Warframe have special add-ons that you can claim whenever you want. Some range from free currency to use in-game, while others give you cool exclusive cosmetics to put on your character/s. So, if there’s a multiplayer title you’ve been wanting to dive into, there could be some helpful packs free to download to get you started or just let you look cool on the field.

The new PSN Outage free gift from Sony that is being given to all PS Plus subscribers on PS4 and PS5 for last month’s historic PSN crash is giving some PlayStation fans a major issue. For those that somehow missed it, between February 7 and February 8, PSN suffered a global outage for 24 hours, the second longest outage in the history of PlayStation Network and the longest in over a decade. At the time, PlayStation did not reveal what went wrong, and it still hasn’t revealed what went wrong. What it did do is announce a free gift.

The following day, on February 9, PlayStation announced free PlayStation Plus for PS Plus subscribers. There was no word when the free gift — a free PS Plus extension of five days — was going to release. That said, earlier this week PlayStation users began to receive the free PS Plus previously promised in February. There is a problem with the free gift though.

Rather than give PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS4 and PS5 a free code to use whenever, the extension is being automatically applied. For many, this is not an issue. However, for those that specifically time their renewals around sales, their strategy has just been thwarted.

For example, many PS Plus subscribers specifically set up their subscriptions to end during the annual PlayStation Plus Black Friday sales in order to renew during this sale at the special sale price. An automatic five day extension throws a wrench in these various strategies, and subscribers aren’t very happy about it.

“I really dont want this, it affected my last sub, not my resubbed one. It’ll most likely put me outside the range for the next February sale,” says one subscriber of the matter. “Why do I run the risk of being penalized when I’m being ‘compensated’?”

Another PlayStation fan adds: “There goes my window to buy PS Plus on next sale. Have to wait five months now, not even worth it. Wish they gave us a choice to redeem it or not.”

playstation-network-logo.jpg

Of course, if the extension was meaningful then this wouldn’t be a problem as it would offset any loss. However, the free compensation, five days of PlayStation Plus is only worth about $1.

It remains not entirely clear if those whose subscription lapsed between the outage and the release of the free gift will get this free gift at all. Unfortunately, just like with the PSN outage itself, PlayStation has been poor with the communication of the resulting PSN free gift.

“Wait. We get free movies also?!? I never knew that,” writes one PlayStation Plus user of the discovery. “The movies selection are actually pretty good,” adds another PS Plus subscriber. “I have watched many of the movies, but sometimes they have a ‘Oh, it has been a while and I want to rewatch it’ movies.

PlayStatin Plus Premium, for those that don’t know, is the the most expensive tier of the subscription service. It is available for $17.99, $49.99, or $159.99 for a one month, three month, and twelve month subscription, respectively.

A new God of War announcement has left fans of Kratos on PlayStation disappointed. It has been three years since the release of God of War Ragnarok. The longer this gap gets the more the next installment becomes anticipated. To this end, rumors of a new God of War game starring a younger Kratos have begun to emerge. In addition to this, rumors about a God of War collection have been flooding the Internet all 2025 so far. Suffice to say, there’s reason for God of War fans to anticipate an exciting announcement and to expect this announcement soon. That said, don’t expect any of this or anything else to come to fruition at the upcoming God of War 20th Anniversary Exhibition event.

The celebration is set to go down on March 22, and be complete with special panels. What there won’t be though are announcements from Santa Monica Studios and PlayStation. In other words, the rumored God of War collection will not be revealed let alone the next installment in the series.

“Pantheons collide! We’re so excited to bring a selection of the Greek and Norse cast for this God of War 20th Anniversary panel where we’ll be reflecting on the past two decades of the series,” reads a new post from the Santa Monica Studios X page. “With such a stellar lineup and all the anticipation we’ve seen around the anniversary, we do want to be clear that there are no planned announcements for this event. If you’re able to snag a ticket, we’d love to see you at Gallery Nucleus to join the celebration on March 22nd!”

Hardcore PlayStation fans will know Sony does not announce games or share substantial news at events like this, and thus this won’t come as a surprise to some. However, there’s a reason Santa Monica Studios felt it needed to make this announcement, and it’s because many fans were speculating and even expecting some news at the event. This will not be the case though. And with no State of Play announced, it is unclear when God of War fans can diverge this anticipation.

A PS2 Star Wars game from 2006 just got an unexpected update 19 years later. Back in 2006, the likes of Wii Sports, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Gears of War, Bully, Saints Row, New Super Mario Bros, Guitar Hero II, Company of Heroes, Okami, Final Fantasy XII, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Prey, Resistance, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and many other great games all released in what was a fairly loaded year.

For Star Wars fans specifically, this was one year after Star Wars: Battlefront II was released. Many were still playing this all-time great a year latter. Star Wars fans also had Star Wars: LEGO Star Wars II – The Original Trilogy hit that year. When TT Games released the LEGO Star Wars game it did so via a myriad of platforms. PlayStation fans will know it from the PS2 and the PSP, but primarily the former.

Many don’t know this, but Star Wars: Lego Star Wars II – The Original Trilogy was actually released back in June 2024 on the PS4 and PS5 where it is available via the PlayStation Store for $14.99. Alternatively, it is free with a PS Plus Premium subscription. This is the most expensive tier of PS Plus and the only tier that grants access to a library of nostalgic PlayStation games.

This re-release happened last year, but it is this week that the classic game just received a new update that notably added trophies to the game, complete with a Platinum Trophy for trophy hunters to hunt down.

It’s important to note the version on the PlayStation Store and available via PS Plus Premium is actually the PSP version though the differences between the PSP version and the PS2 version are minimal.

This update may seem random, but PlayStation has been steadily issuing trophy updates to PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP games that have been re-released via the PS Plus Classics program.

Of course, as a PS2 and PSP game, Star Wars: LEGO Star Wars II – The Original Trilogy didn’t have trophies when it released 19 years ago, as trophies were not introduced until the PS3 generation.

The PlayStation Store has a great deal for Star Wars fans right now as part of its Deal of the Week promotion. Unfortunately, there is no PS4 version of the game, just a PS5 version. This is not a problem for those on PS5 and PS5 Pro, but it means for everyone on PS4 the deal below is not relevant. Meanwhile, those on PS5 and PS5 Pro will need to act fast because the PlayStation Store deal is only live until March 12. After this, the 50% sale will expire, which in this case means the opportunity to pay $34.99 for the PS5 game in question rather than $69.99 will be gone.

The PlayStation Store Deal of the Week game is specifically for a Star Wars game, and one that actually released last year. To this end, this 50% discount is the largest discount it has ever received not just on the PlayStation Store, but anywhere.

More specifically, the PlayStation Store discount is for Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws, which released back on August 30, 2024 via Massive Entertainment, the studio best known for The Division series. An open-world action-adventure game, it unfortunately did not do very well for Ubisoft, critically and commercially. The former is summed up by its Metacritic scores in the mid 70s, while the latter is summed up by the fact it is already 50 percent off.

“Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars action-adventure game and explore distinct locations across the galaxy, both iconic and new,” reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Store. “Risk it all as scoundrel Kay Vess, seeking freedom and the means to start a new life. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity. “

Those that buy, download, and play Star Wars Outlaws as a result of this PSN deal should expect a game that is about 18 to 35 hours long with the variation coming down to skill level, playstyle, and content completion rate. Speaking of completion rate, those that want to 100 percent the game will need closer to 100 hours with it.

Horizon fans have discovered a secret part of the Horizon Zero Dawn map eight years after Guerrilla Games and PlayStation released the RPG on PS4, and three years after its PS5 sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. While the open world of Horizon Zero Dawn is large, it is not brimming with content the same way as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is. It is also not as live or immersive as the open world of a game like Red Dead Redemption 2. Nor is it brimming with secrets to discover such as a game like Elden Ring. It is a pretty cookie cutter open world that stands out thanks to a terrific art direction and an incredible coat of polish. There are some surprises out there though.

To this end, over on the Horizon Zero Dawn Reddit page one fan of the game, playing not the original, but the PS5 remaster, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, discovered a mysterious whirlpool in a lake that can’t be reached by normal means, making it a hidden area players don’t know about.

“I recently saw a YouTube clip of hidden locations in HZD, and a mysterious ‘whirlpool’ on the eastern part of the map was mentioned. Technically you can’t reach it [as] a can’t explore further’ prompt appears. Long story short, my curiosity was piqued and decided to see if it was still there in the remastered version. And after killing a few Snapmaws there this is was what I found. Not exactly sure if it’s the same one since it looks more like a texture thing than a whirlpool, but I found it fascinating and took a souvenir pic.”

Those interested in finding this mysterious location will need to locate the waters eat of the Devil’s Grief area. From here, stand on one of the islands — marked in the image below — and use photo mode to elevate the camera height. From here, face east and look for an irregularity on the surface of the water. Once located, you can swim to the location though you may encounter some Snapmaws on the way there.

What is this mysterious whirlpool? That remains a mystery. Perhaps it is a little easter egg, a hint of a larger aquatic monster lurking that players never encounter. This is just speculation though. It’s been eight years so it’s safe to assume players will never get an answer on this mystery.

PS5 Pro users have slammed Sony over a “ridiculous” downgrade from the standard PS5. The PS5 Pro released last year, and did so alongside a $700 price point. This is $300 more than the standard PS5, which can also be found on sale sometimes, unlike the PS5 Pro that seldomly gets discounted. This is a huge premium that suggests a substantial upgrade from the base PS5. However, the differences beyond the price point between the standard PS5 and PS5 Pro are not substantial. More than this, in one specific case the PS5 Pro is actually a downgrade from the standard PS5.

Over on the PS5 Reddit page, one of the top posts this week — and the only post to receive Reddit Gold — is a post calling out this downgrade as “grade-A bull****.” More specifically, the post calls out the lack of vertical stand.

The post reveals the user recently received a raise at their job, and to celebrate they upgraded their gaming setup. This included upgrading from the base PS5 to the PS5 Pro. However, when they opened the box and found out the PS5 Pro does not come with a vertical stand, unlike the standard PS5, they were “dismayed.”

“I’m not hating on Sony, but it my space is very limited, so horizontal is a headache to set up,” reads the post in question. “I wish I’d known ahead of time, but the OG did come with one so I didn’t even think it was a possibility. And honestly, paying separately for a stand also seems a bit ridiculous. For the price of the Pro I’d expect at least a vertical stand like the OG came with… What a weird thing to leave out. PS5 Pro not including a vertical stand is grade-A BS.”

As noted, the popularity of the post confirms this is not a lonely, isolated sentiment, but a common sentiment. However, there are a good number of comments that dismiss the user claiming that a vertical stand is not necessary because it stands fine without it. And this is mostly true, though it lacks some of the stability that it otherwise would have with a proper stand.

Of course, to pay a $300 premium and not even get everything you get with a standard PS5 purchase is no doubt a contentious decision from Sony, though one it clearly made with profit margins in mind. After all that is one less thing it has to produce and consequently it makes the box lighter, which makes shipping cheaper.

Unfortunately, PlayStation is unlikely to reverse this call. If the PS5 Pro launched with a vertical stand it would be easy to imagine a future where Sony cuts costs and removes it from the packaging. However, it’s very difficult to imagine this working in reverse.

All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Is this a big issue for the PS5 Pro like the post suggests or not very relevant like some of the comments suggest?

It’s been almost 19 years since PlayStation 3 was first released in stores, and chances are pretty good that most gamers have moved on from the system. Since then, we’ve gotten two more PlayStation generations, after all. Despite this, PlayStation announced this morning that a new software update has been released for the console, bringing it up to version 4.92. The patch notes from PlayStation merely state that “this system software update improves system performance.” That doesn’t really give us much to go on, but that’s often the case when it comes to any console update.

While the patch notes don’t say it, PlayStation’s support page explicitly mentions that users need to install the update to “renew the Blu-ray player encryption key,” so that might be the real reason behind today’s update. While PS3 is pretty old at this point, it’s not inconceivable that some people might still be using the console as a Blu-ray player. If you’ve still got the console hooked up for that purpose, you might want to consider running the update to make sure you can continue to use that particular feature. It’s actually nice to see that PlayStation is keeping up on this, particularly for those that still like using physical media.

the ps3 controller in silver

The announcement from PlayStation has been largely met with surprise and bewilderment. PS3 was discontinued in North America in fall 2016, and yet here we are, 9 years later, still seeing updates for the platform. While PS3 doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to Sony’s consoles, it’s impossible to deny that it had a strong library of games, some of which remain unobtainable on PS5. If you’re still looking to play games like Twisted Metal, it’s your only option, and that’s not even mentioning some of the strong third-party games that never got ported. For that reason alone, it might be worth keeping your PS3 hooked up and updated.

PlayStation has given a new update on the PSN outage and it looks like compensation for the outage has been going out to PlayStation Plus subscribers across PS4 and PS5. The update specifically comes the way of PlayStation Support, and has been shared over on Reddit. According to the update, PlayStation will provide another update once the PlayStation Plus extensions have been given to all those impacted by the historic outage.

For those that missed it, last month PSN went down for 24 hours, the second longest outage in PSN history and the longest outage in a decade. The outage was a global outage and during this time many PS4 and PS5 consoles were stripped of substantial functionality and some were even completely obsolete depending on the user’s settings and the games they own.

After 24 hours though Sony fixed the issues and steadied the ship. And not long after this, it announced it would be giving PlayStation Plus subscribers a free extension of five days as an apology. When these extensions would be issued, Sony did not say at the time and it still hasn’t communicated as much. However, multiple users on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page have begun to report they have received their compensation. However, others are reporting the opposite, suggesting the roll out is going to be a process rather than a mass dump.

Alongside this, there is a new comment from PlayStation Support that promises an additional update on the matter. What this update will be, remains to be seen, but perhaps it will be insight into what went wrong.

“Greetings from Sony,” reads the email from PlayStation Support, which was provided to a PlayStation Plus subscriber. “This is in reference to your e-mail dated on 02-03-2025. We appreciate your patience as we work to provide five extra days of PlayStation Plus to the members affected by the recent PlayStation Network outage.

The comment continues: “Former PlayStation Plus members (whose membership expired since the outage) will receive five days of free access, matching their last membership tier. These updates will be automatically applied to the user’s account with no action needed on their part. We’ll provide another update once the extensions and free access have been granted.”

It is unclear how much PlayStation users should look into this final line. Whatever the case, what is clear is that compensation has started to go live for many PS4 and PS5 users. Those without a PS Plus subscription will not be getting any of this compensation though.

While the Twisted Metal streaming series has been a success on Peacock, it’s been a long time since PlayStation released a game based on the property. However, a new PS5 entry in the series was in development from Firesprite, the studio responsible for Horizon: Call of the Mountain. While PlayStation has never confirmed the project’s existence, reports of Firesprite’s involvement first began circulating online in 2022. The game was reportedly cancelled last year, but we’ve learned some new details thanks to Hugo Silva, a lead UI programmer that was apparently working on the new Twisted Metal.

On Silva’s personal website (via Insider Gaming), the developer shared some images and details about “Project Copper,” a Firesprite developed game that is never technically identified as Twisted Metal. Despite this, we already know Firesprite was working on the series, and Silva’s description makes it pretty obvious that this would have been a Twisted Metal game. The developer says that Project Copper was “a 3rd person vehicular action combat game” and “it was based on a classic IP owned by PlayStation.” That certainly sounds like Twisted Metal!

sweet tooth in a teaser for peacock’s twisted metal season 2

Here’s where things take an interesting turn. According to Silva, the game “had 3rd person shooter mechanics wrapped with 3rd person vehicle combat with the objective of being the last one standing.” Basically, Firesprite and PlayStation were turning Twisted Metal into a battle royale game. On Silva’s website, there are a small handful of images from the game, which are all labeled “under NDA.” Though we can see some vehicles, the images really highlight the battle royale concept, with generic looking characters shooting at one another. These character designs are clearly placeholders, and would have presumably been replaced by classic faces from the series. Or, players might have been able to custom design their own protagonist. There’s really no way of knowing for sure.

The last new Twisted Metal game was released on PS3 back in 2012, so it’s been 13 years now since the series had a new entry. That’s got to be frustrating for fans, especially when you consider the fact that there’s a Twisted Metal show and no game for viewers to try after watching; it seems like a really big missed opportunity on PlayStation’s part.

Firesprite’s Twisted Metal might have been cancelled, but it’s possible the decision might have been for the best. From everything revealed so far, the game might not have delivered what fans have come to expect from the series. If this new Twisted Metal had been released and failed, it might have doomed the series for another decade or more. PlayStation co-CEO Herman Hurst hinted back in December that the company is looking for ways to take advantage of its past IP, offering hope we could see the return of dormant franchises like Twisted Metal. Hopefully fans won’t have to wait too long before a new game finally happens.

How do you feel about this Twisted Metal game’s cancellation? Do you think we’ll ever see the series return? Share your thoughts with me directly on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

PlayStation is one of the biggest gaming companies on the planet and a big part of that is thanks to its tremendous games. PlayStation has attained a reputation for crafting rich, high-quality exclusive games that are frequently showered in commercial and critical praise. A lot of PlayStation’s successes come from lengthy single-player games with blockbuster action, charming characters, and cinematic stories, things that can be seen in Uncharted, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, and God of War. For years, these exclusive franchises and PlayStation’s access to studios like Naughty Dog and Insomniac Games have driven players to buy PlayStation consoles. However, there’s less of a need for that now that PlayStation supports PC platforms like Steam.

Over the last five years or so, more and more PlayStation exclusives have come to PC. Just recently, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched on PC over a year after its initial PS5 release. The superhero game was a title that helped move PS5 units in 2023 given how much love there is for the character on a mainstream level. Another massive PlayStation exclusive, The Last of Us Part 2, is also coming to PC ahead of the premiere of The Last of Us season 2 on HBO. While a lot of the biggest PlayStation games are on PC now, there are still quite a few that haven’t made their way over yet.

Here are the seven biggest PlayStation games that still need to come to PC:

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

uncharted 2

The fact that the first three Uncharted games aren’t available on PC is pretty egregious. Not only is it easily one of PlayStation’s biggest franchises, but Uncharted 4 – the very last game in the series that won’t be nearly as impactful without having played the other games – is available on PC. It’s strange and a weird omission. It’s possible that PlayStation hasn’t been interested in porting games that aren’t natively available to PS5, but still, it feels like a collection of games that should be on PC given they are pretty old and essential pieces to the Uncharted puzzle. Maybe if we get a remake of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, we could see that brought over to PC, but it’s really unknown if the entire trilogy will ever make its way over.

Bloodborne

bloodborne

Bloodborne has one of the most feverish and neglected fanbases of all-time. The PS4-exclusive Souls game debuted back in 2015 and is widely regarded as not just one of the best PS4 games, but arguably one of the best Souls games. While the game is playable on PS5 due to backward compatibility, many want to see Bloodborne get a proper remaster which would also bring it to PC. Sadly, it seems like there’s no interest in anything like that from Sony or FromSoftware. Calls for any kind of new Bloodborne content have been met with silence for years, much to the dismay of fans everywhere.

The Original God of War Trilogy

god of war 3

Just like Uncharted, God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok are both on PC, but the beloved original trilogy is not. The original God of War games were released across PS2 and PS3 as some of the marquee titles for the platforms. While you don’t necessarily have to play the original games to understand the new God of War games, they do provide some really important context that will deepen your understanding of Kratos’ story. It would be great to get these games on PC and it’s quite possible that will happen as there are rumors of a remastered God of War collection for PS5 coming very soon.

Infamous

infamous 2

The Infamous series was PlayStation’s own attempt at doing a superhero series prior to making the Spider-Man games. The series has two different heroes across its three games with Cole MacGrath in the first two and Delsin Rowe in the PS4 exclusive, Infamous Second Son. They are tremendous games and really allow you to enjoy the superhero fantasy, but they also encourage players to play how they want thanks to a morality system. Will you use your powers for good or will you wield them for evil? It’s up to you and makes the Infamous games a unique series amid a fairly crowded genre. It would be fantastic to get all three games in a collection on PC and PS5 in the future, but PlayStation may not want to steal Spidey’s thunder.

Shadow of the Colossus

shadow of the colossus

Shadow of the Colossus is a seminal PlayStation game and was beautifully remade for PS4 back in 2018. It stunningly recreated the game’s larger-than-life set pieces and brought the PS2 classic up to snuff for modern audiences without even dramatically changing the core game. It’s a game that everyone deserves to experience and it’s a wonder why PlayStation hasn’t managed to bring it over to PC yet.

Demon’s Souls

demon’s souls

Yet another beloved PlayStation-exclusive Souls game managed to make the list thanks to Demon’s Souls. Ironically, Demon’s Souls is the first Souls game and was a bit of an enigma when it debuted on PS3. It was painstakingly difficult and drove some players away when it was released. However, it was welcomed with much more open arms when it was remade as a PS5 launch title as gamers were far more acquainted with the genre by that time. Given the vast majority of PS5 exclusives are on PC these days, it feels right that Demon’s Souls should make the move as well and allow even more people to get in on the action.

Astro Bot

astro bot

Of all the entries on this list, Astro Bot seems like the least likely to come to PC. It is a game where you quite literally rebuild a PS5 for the robots to use as a spaceship of sorts. It’s really one big piece of PlayStation propaganda (that’s not a bad thing) and focuses on the history of the platform. Maybe one day Astro Bot will make its way over to PC, but it does seem like it would feel a bit out of place. Nevertheless, more people should get to experience the 2024 Game of the Year winner.

Sony has finally fixed a major issue with the PlayStation Store that has been a problem for PS5 users, and PS4 users before them. While over the years Sony has bene quick to update the PS5, and now the PS5 Pro as well, the PlayStation Store is rarely updated. While it is technically updated every week with new deals and sales, from a design and function perspective it doens’t change very much. This means PlayStation fans are not just often stuck with bad iterations for long stretches of time, but sometimes without basic features or with broken features. In this case, we are dealing with the latter, or at least a feature that was previously broken, because it appears this same issue has finally be fixed.

Previously, the PlayStation Store wishlist notifications on the PS App were completely busted. PS4 and PS5 users could wishlist PS4 and PS5 games all they want, they were never going to get notifications when that game went on sale, making the feature completely obsolete. This means, PlayStation fans have had to manually check for deals on PS4 and PS5 games they were interested in. According to PSLS though, this issue has been resolved in an update that apparently Sony pushed out alongside the new PS Store deals it posted this week.

The question is whether or not the fix was intentional or not, and whether it will remain fixed. The answer to the former is presumably yes, but the answer to the other is anyone’s best guess. PlayStation Store support, as noted, is not good so it is hard to have much confidence fixes will stick.

It is worth noting this specifically to those who use the PS App, and not those who use the web version of the PlayStation Store, or the PS Store version built right into PS4 and PS5 consoles.

A new game from a 21-year-old PS2 series has leaked ahead of its official reveal. The PS2 series in question got its start in 2004, a legendary year in gaming history. In just 2004, juggernauts like GTA San Andreas, Halo 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Half-Life 2, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, and Star Wars: Battlefront all released. These are just the juggernauts and don’t include many other great games, including the start of many popular series such as Red Dead, Monster Hunter, Far Cry, and Fable. 2004 was arguably the greatest year in gaming history. Suffice to say, many 2004 releases flew under the radar.

One of these releases that flew under the radar of many — that also debuted as a brand new IP — was Katamari Damacy from Namco, now known as Bandai Namco. The 86-rated cult-classic may have flew under the radar of many, but it did well enough on its investment to spawn a series. The series has never come close to going mainstream, but it has done well enough for Bandai Namco to stick with it. To this end, it is actually working on a new release for the series.

Bandai Namco hasn’t made any official announcements involving Katamari Damacy, however, it has trademarked, in both the United States and Europe, “Once Upon a Katamari.” And as Gematsu points out, Bandai Namco is infamous for leaking its own games via trademark filings.

Assuming Once Upon a Katamari is a new game in the 21-year-old series that got its start on PS2, it would be the first new game from the series since Touch My Katamari was released in 2011 as a PlayStation Vita exclusive. The new trademark makes no mention of platforms, but this could be a PlayStation exclusive based on the history of the series.

At the moment of publishing, Bandai Namco has not commented on this new trademark leak. We do not suspect this to change for a variety of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. Fans of The Last of Us are divided over the latest new about a cancelled game. It has been five calendar years since Naughty Dog and PlayStation released The Last of Us Part 2, the sequel to 2013’s The Last of Us. And with no official word of The Last of Us 3, fans are wondering what’s next for the series. At one point, what was supposed to be next was a Last of Us multiplayer game, but it was cancelled at the end of 2023.

Fast forward, a former PlayStation executive recently said the game was not cancelled due to a lack of quality or an out of control budget, like some rumors have suggested. In fact, the game was apparently “great” based on internal testing. Rather, it was cancelled because Naughty Dog was unable to work on it and create a new IP at the same time, and thus one or the other had to be chosen, with PlayStation and Naughty Dog choosing to prioritize the new IP. And this new IP ended up being revealed back in December. It is called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and judging by the reaction to the game, it may have been the wrong choice.

Piggybacking on these new comments from the aforementioned PlayStation executive, Shuhei Yoshida, many Last of Us fans over on the Last of Us Reddit page are divided by the new information. Some are content with Last of Us Online dying for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, while others are “heartbroken.”

“Factions was the best multiplayer experience I’ve had in my adult life. I was heartbroken to see it not return,” writes on Reddit user. “This is such bull**** the multiplayer for the first game was great so they just wasted a bunch of money and time just to end up scraping the whole idea,” adds another comment.

A third comment adds, less unhappy with the news: “Yeah, as much as I mourn the loss of Factions II, I’d rather Naughty Dog stick to single-player if it has to be one or the other.”

the-last-of-us-season-2-multple-seasons-part-2-game.jpg

Whether choosing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet over The Last of Us Online was the right choice by PlayStation and Naughty Dog, only time will tell. Indications so far suggest it was perhaps the wrong decision, especially from a company desperate and struggling to crack the live service space.

All of that said, and as always, let us know what you think via the comments section. Meanwhile, for more coverage on The Last of Us — including all of the latest Last of Us news and all of the latest Last of Us rumors and leaks — click here.

Call of Duty players are furious over some news regarding the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Call of Duty is one of the biggest franchises on the planet and has released a game every year without fail since 2005. Good or bad, there’s a Call of Duty game on the shelves every holiday season. It’s reliable, it’s generally pretty consistent, but there have been calls from fans for a quality over quantity approach to the series going forward. Some feel like it’s treading water and not innovating enough after 20+ Call of Duty games, which is fair. Call of Duty has tried to go outside the box, but ultimately came right back to its traditional roots.

With that said, there has been one thing that’s been really holding Call of Duty back for years in the eyes of some players. Call of Duty is one of the biggest franchises that is still releasing on Xbox One and PS4 each year. Other big franchises have moved on in favor of actually taking advantage of the new hardware. Grand Theft Auto VI will not be available on last-gen consoles, which will likely cause millions of people to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. College Football 25 also helped push players over to new hardware and that may continue this year with MLB The Show 25 and College Football 26. However, Call of Duty fans may be out of luck.

Call of Duty Will Reportedly Release on Xbox One and PS4 This Year

Call of Duty Warzone Verdansk

According to a new report from CharlieIntel, a reputable Call of Duty news account, Call of Duty 2025 is in development for last-gen consoles. Given we are five years into the console generation, some had hoped that this year’s game would finally leave last-gen behind, but that’s not the case. Naturally, Call of Duty fans being the calm, cool, collected bunch that they are reacted very intensely to this. While some fans legitimately did understand the decision given there are still so many people on older consoles to sell games to and Call of Duty is expensive to make, others feel it’s hurting the game.

The continued decision to make games for last gen results in a worse experience for everyone. For those on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, they get a game that is held back by last-gen. CharlieIntel speculates that Warzone is unable to have more than two large-scale maps at a time because of last-gen limitations, for instance. Given everything has to be scaled down to last-gen’s specs, it also means the game can’t be too intensive in terms of its size or graphics. For last-gen players, Call of Duty doesn’t look for easy on the eyes nor does it perform nearly as well as it could. It’s sort of a lose/lose for everyone involved.

Given a console generation only lasts about eight years or so these days, it would be shocking if Call of Duty 2026 was released on last-gen. It seems like it’s time to leave these machines behind, especially as more players get increasingly furious with the decision to keep supporting these older consoles. However, Xbox has also promised that Call of Duty will be on Nintendo platforms going forward… which means the game will have to run on a weaker machine regardless. It’s a tough battle for Call of Duty fans and one that may continue for years to come.

As for Call of Duty 2025 itself, the game is rumored to be a sequel to 2012’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. No details have been confirmed about the game, but all reputable rumors point to it being a near-future game set in the 2030s. Whether or not anything carries over from Black Ops 6 as it did with Modern Warfare 3 remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be hard to imagine.

A new God of War game has just been accidentally confirmed by PlayStation developer Santa Monica Studio, a team that has been exclusively making God of War games since 2001. Its first ever release was a non-God of War game called Kinetica, but since then it has been non-stop God of War: 2005’s God of War, 2007’s God of War II, 2010’s God of War III, 2013’s God of War: Ascension, 2018’s God of War, and 2022’s God of War Ragnarok. And if you thought the studio was going to pivot away from Kratos, think again.

The California-based Sony studio has yet to announce its next game, but it did just seemingly confirm it will be another new God of War game. Spotted by TGP, PlayStation is currently hiring a Senior Technical Narrative Designer. This in itself is not noteworthy. PlayStation is always hiring, even senior talent, which is increasingly hard to come by. What is interesting is one specific part of the job listing.

In the “Requirements” section of the job listing, PlayStation notes that applicants should have “knowledge of competitive products as well as a personal understanding of God of War games.” Why would it require not just an understanding, but a personal understanding of God of War games if it wasn’t to work on God of War? The only logical conclusion is that this is to work on God of War.

It is possible this could be related to the rumored God of War Remastered Collection. however, that is expected to release soon so it wouldn’t require a Senior Technical Narrative Designer at this point in development. In fact, it is unclear why such a project would ever require this role. So, while it is a possibility this is related to the rumored rerelease, right now the possibility appears very slim.

At the moment of publishing, neither PlayStation at large or specifically Santa Monica Studio have commented on this job listing and the speculation it has created. If this changes, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. That said, we don’t anticipate a comment as neither is known to comment on job listings nor speculation. In fact, neither has ever commented on either of these things.

PlayStation has revealed the next free games that will be coming to PlayStation Plus for the month of March 2025 and they’re pretty shocking. For the most part, the free games that tend to hit PS Plus are pretty dated. While the service has seen plenty of day-one additions in the past, these titles are usually smaller in stature. Any AAA games that land on PS Plus eventually are typically a couple of years old at the very least. For PS Plus in March 2025, though, the subscription platform is getting a massive RPG that launched less than six months ago.

Set to go live next week on March 4th, PlayStation Plus users at every tier will be gaining access to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Sonic Colors: Ultimate, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection. Far and away the biggest game of the bunch here is Dragon Age: The Veilguard as it was only released by BioWare and EA back in October 2024. Based on financial data from EA, the latest entry in the Dragon Age series fell drastically short of its sales expectations, which is seemingly what has resulted in this quick addition to PS Plus. The Veilguard will be the only PS Plus game for March that is solely available for PS5.

As for Sonic Colors: Ultimate and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, their inclusion on PS Plus is far less surprising. Both games are set to be downloadable for PS5 and PS4, with each having also been quite well-received. As such, March is looking like quite a strong month on paper for PS Plus and will give subscribers plenty to play.

To learn more about all of these upcoming additions to PS Plus, you can get a look at trailers and description for each game here:

Dragon Age: The Veilguard

“Enter the world of Thedas, a vibrant land of rugged wilderness, treacherous labyrinths, and glittering cities – steeped in conflict and secret magics. Now, a pair of corrupt ancient gods have broken free from centuries of darkness and are hellbent on destroying the world.

Thedas needs someone they can count on. Rise as Rook, Dragon Age’s newest hero. Be who you want to be and play how you want to play as you fight to stop the gods from blighting the world. But you can’t do this alone – the odds are stacked against you. Lead a team of seven companions, each with their own rich story to discover and shape, and together you will become The Veilguard.

Unite the Veilguard and defy the gods in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, an immersive single player RPG.”

Sonic Colors Ultimate

“The evil Dr. Eggman has built an interstellar amusement park – but he’s powering it with a captured alien race called ‘Wisps.’ Use Sonic’s speed to free the Wisps and gain their amazing powers as you explore six unique worlds, filled with hurdles to overcome. Now with stunning upscaled visuals, additional features a new game mode and enhanced gameplay – it’s the Ultimate Sonic Colors experience.”

TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection assembles thirteen classic TMNT games by Konami in one incredible package. This collection provides a unique opportunity for gamers to experience these immensely popular and very influential games on PlayStation and includes a fantastic set of new quality of life features.”

Gamers are used to servers going down. It’s an unfortunate reality of the modern gaming industry, and it can be pretty frustrating when you want to sit down and play something but can’t do so. That’s exactly what happened to Marvel Rivals players last night, who found that the game couldn’t be accessed for several hours. Developer NetEase has managed to fix things, and there shouldn’t be any further issues. However, the team is giving everyone a little gift for their troubles in the form of 200 Units. It’s a nice freebie, and all accounts should be able to grab it right now.

“Hey Rivals, Servers are back up! Sorry for the inconvenience. As a token of our appreciation for your patience, we’ve credited your account with 200 units as compensation. Please make sure to log into the game and claim your compensation item from your in-game mail by March 12, 2025, 00:00 UTC+0,” a post from the game’s official X/Twitter account reads.

the marvel’s spider-man 2 skin is currently priced at 1,400 units

Units are the in-game currency used in Marvel Rivals. Players will need a lot more than 200 if they want to purchase anything from the in-game store; the cheapest skin you’re going to find right now is the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 costume, which is currently available for 1,400 Units. However, it’s always nice to get something extra, and it seems like a lot of people are happy about the compensation. Several Marvel Rivals players have already thanked NetEase, and have said that other developers could stand to be a little more generous in that regard.

As noted in the post from NetEase, this compensation won’t last forever; it can only be claimed through March 12th. Marvel Rivals players have been advised to reach out to NetEase through the company’s Discord channel if they encounter any additional server issues. Thankfully, the game seems to be working just fine at the moment. That doesn’t mean things can’t change, but hopefully we won’t see additional problems anytime soon. Server downtime is always a pain, but at least this happened on a random weeknight, rather than on the weekend when a lot more players would have been inconvenienced!

Marvel Rivals players can put those free Units towards some new skins coming to the game later this week. Yesterday, NetEase revealed two new costumes that will be launching in the game on February 27th. The costumes include the Punk Rage look for Hulk, and the Punkchild design for Magik. As the names imply, these new costume designs give the heroes punk inspired redesigns, which could be tempting for those who main either character. Some fans might prefer designs that come straight from the comics or other games, but it’s nice to see Marvel Rivals offering totally original ones as well.

Are you happy about this compensation from the Marvel Rivals team? What skins do you plan on buying? Share your thoughts with me directly on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

An acclaimed PS4 game from 2019 has today received a free upgrade to PS5 for those who already own it. By all accounts, 2019 was a fantastic year for the PS4 that saw a ton of highly-rated titles land on the platform. Games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry V, The Outer Worlds, Days Gone, Outer Wilds, Mortal Kombat 11, Control, and Death Stranding all arrived in this calendar year and are considered some of the best titles that released on the PS4 over the course of its lifespan. Now, one of these games from yesteryear has been improved for the latest PlayStation hardware in addition to receiving a new game mode.

As of today, publisher Annapurna Interactive has brought Sayonara Wild Hearts over to PS5. Developed by Simogo, Sayonara Wild Hearts is a rhythm action game that tasks players with gliding through a variety of visually-pleasing levels, all of which are set to different music. Sayonara Wild Hearts reviewed quite well when it hit PS4 in 2019 and currently sits at an 82/100 aggregate score on Metacritic. It also won and was nominated for a variety of awards across The Game Awards, DICE, and BAFTAs.

When it comes to what this new version of Sayonara Wild Hearts brings on PS5, the game now runs better than ever and can hit a performance threshold of 120 frames per second. Its visuals are also now in 4K and has added additional responses tied to the PS5 DualSense controller. And for those looking for something entirely new with this release of Sayonara Wild Hearts, a mode called “Remix Arcade” has been added to the experience and is exclusive to PS5 platforms. This game type is said to allow players to “speed through infinitely replayable levels and chase high scores in random sound bites, all with no loading.”

Perhaps best of all, these PS5 improvements to Sayonara Wild Hearts are completely free to those who already purchased the game on PS4. And if you don’t already own the game, you can snag it for a mere $12.99.

Sayonara Wild Hearts

Synopsis:Sayonara Wild Hearts is a dreamy arcade game about riding motorcycles, skateboarding, dance battling, shooting lasers, wielding swords, and breaking hearts at 200 mph.

As the heart of a young woman breaks, the balance of the universe is disturbed. A diamond butterfly appears in her dreams and leads her through a highway in the sky, where she finds her other self: the masked biker called The Fool.

Journey through a custom-written pop soundtrack, chase scores, and set out to find the harmony of the universe, hidden away in the hearts of Little Death and her star-crossed allies: Dancing Devils, Howling Moons, Stereo Lovers, and Hermit 64.”

United States President Donald Trump has made tariffs a central part of his economic strategy. His proposed tariffs on goods made outside of the country could have a huge impact on many different industries, including video games. Since many countries manufacture their products in China, there have been a lot of questions about how increased costs could end up being passed down to consumers. As part of its third quarter financial results, Sony addressed the topic of tariffs, and how the company is looking to avoid higher prices on PlayStation products.

“We have been working to duplicate our supply chains and increase their flexibility. Furthermore, we have been preparing recently by doing such things as stockpiling a certain level of strategic inventory in the U.S., and we expect the impact on the financial performance this year of additional U.S. tariffs — that have been implemented or whose considerations have been announced — at this point in time to be minor.”

will tariffs raise the price of ps5 and its software?

Put simply, it sounds like PlayStation’s current strategy is to stock up on product in the U.S. ahead of any potential tariffs, and to make moves to produce products in countries outside of China, should there be a need to do so. In that regard, Sony’s response to the proposed tariffs sounds very similar to what Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said earlier this month. Furukawa noted that the company’s products are not only manufactured in China, but also in Vietnam and Cambodia, and Nintendo is keeping a close eye on the tariff issue in order to figure out the best way to respond.

It remains to be seen whether this strategy will be enough to keep prices at their current level. However, it’s clear that companies throughout the video game industry are looking at ways to adapt if need be. There’s a lot of uncertainty right now, and that’s stressful for both companies as well as consumers. At the very least, it doesn’t sound like a PlayStation price increase would immediately follow tariffs being implemented.

As of this writing, President Trump’s proposed tariffs on countries like China, Canada, and Mexico have not gone into effect. All of these countries have attempted to avoid tariffs from being implemented, as that would drive up the prices of products, which would then be passed on to consumers. At this time, we don’t know what impact that would end up having on the price of the PS5 console, or even video game software. Industry analyst Mat Piscatella noted in a post on Bluesky last month that Trump’s proposed 25% tariff on Mexico could result in fewer physical games being manufactured, but prices could still rise on digital games “to remain at price parity with physical.”

Are you concerned about the impact tariffs might have on video game prices? Do you think companies like Sony can avoid passing along increased costs? Share your thoughts with me directly on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

It looks like three of the most expensive games in the PS1 library could finally see some substantial drops in price. Given that the original PlayStation is now over 30 years old, many of its games are starting to get quite expensive on the resale market. For example, some of the rarest games in the PS1 catalog like Clock Tower 2, Valkyrie Profile, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Silent Hill, and Klonoa: Door to Phantomile tend to sell for anywhere between $200 and $500 on average. Meanwhile, dozens of others tend to regularly go for $50 to $100. Luckily, for those trying to assemble a full PS1 collection, one of the priciest franchises that began on the “PSX” could soon see its value fall in the months ahead.

Recently, PlayStation announced that it would be porting the first three entries in the Armored Core series to PS5 and PS4 consoles. These games include the original Armored Core, Armored Core: Project Phantasma, and Armored Core: Master of Arena, all of which launched on PS1 between 1997 and 1999. Currently, PlayStation hasn’t said exactly when these Armored Core games will hit current-gen PlayStation platforms, but they’ll be joining the PS Plus “Classics” catalog whenever they do arrive.

To explain how this might impact the price of these Armored Core games, typically, whenever games from the past are ported, remastered, or remade for newer platforms, it in turn lowers the price of said games in their original form. While there’s no guarantee that this will happen with the original Armored Core trilogy, those looking to collect the games have reason to hope that their prices will start to dip after they hit PS5 and PS4.

In the wake of Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon launching in 2023, all games in the Armored Core series majorly spiked in price. This was most notably seen with the PS1 games as the original Armored Core still consistently sells for over $110 in its complete form. Armored Core: Project Phantasma is then a bit cheaper and goes for about $90, while Armored Core: Master of Arena is the most expensive of the bunch at an average sale price of roughly $120. Although none of these PS1 Armored Core games will ever outright be “cheap” at this point, hopefully, those looking up to pick up their original physical copies can do so for far less soon enough.

PlayStation is giving PS5 users the chance to get a free subscription to PS Plus. The Sony subscription service is currently available in three different forms: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. All three of these tiers offer something different for different prices. The most expensive tier is PS Plus Premium, which costs $17.99 a month or $159.99 for 12 months. And it this tier of PS Plus that PlayStation is giving away for free to PS5 users.

What’s the catch? Well, the new offer doesn’t just require PS5 users to sign up but to participate to win. More specifically, those interested in a free PS Plus subscription will need to sign-up for the upcoming TopSpin 2K25 tournament and join at least one match and stay in the lobby until the designated match start time to be eligible to win a free PS Plus subscription.

Those that are randomly selected will know they won because they will get a notification on their PS5 within several days after the tournament’s conclusion. That said, the offer will expire 30 days after being issued, so be sure to keep a lookout for notifications.

Those hoping to save $159.99 on a 12-month subscription to PS Plus Premium are going to be left wanting though. The giveaway is for PS Plus Premium, but only one month of the subscription service.

Those unfamiliar with PS Plus Premium, it features everything PS Plus Essential and PS Plus Extra offers, but access to the Classics Catalog as well. In other words, in addition to online access, monthly free games, and an evolving library of PS4 and PS5 games, it gives subscribers free access to an evolving library of PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games. It also adds exclusive game trials and cloud streaming to the package as well.

The majority of PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games released on PS5 via the Classics Catalog are released on the PlayStation Store for individual purchase, but not all of them. And of course, PS Plus Premium subscribers don’t have to purchase said games because they have free access to them.

A potential PS6 release date is not what some PlayStation fans wanted to hear. It has been five calendar years since Sony released the PS5. Meanwhile, it added to the PS5 family last year with the release of the PS5 Pro. With rumors circulating that PlayStation may be working on its first handheld since the PS Vita, it is unclear what the next PlayStation hardware release will be, but PS6 is no doubt a likely candidate.

If the gap between the PS4 and the PS5 is repeated with the PS5 and PS6, then the PS6 will release in 2027. However, some new comments from an ex PlayStation executive suggest that perhaps 2027 will come too early for the PS6.

The comments specifically come from the long-serving but recently departed Shuhei Yoshida, who left Sony earlier this year after joining it in 1993 to help build the PlayStation brand through the decades.

Speaking about a potential PS6 release date, Yoshida recently commented that he felt a 2027 release date was “a bit too early” for the PS6. Adding to this, Yoshida noted that if the PS6 releases in 2028 that would ‘feel right’ to him. Yoshida concedes he doesn’t know the PS6 release date — probably because PlayStation itself hasn’t even determined this — but it is reasonable to think his speculation is more than informed.

Reacting to this news, some PlayStation fans aren’t happy. While some think 2028 would be more than a suitable PS6 release date, others were hoping to get their hands on it earlier, or at least this is what reactions over on X suggest.

“It better not, should be 2027,” writes one PlayStation fan. Replying to this, in disagreement another fan adds: “It better not be 2027. My PS5 Pro barely got miles on it. And there’s so many games that got announced years ago that aren’t even out yet.”

“Feels like a huge money grab,” adds a third fan. “I’m a Sony fan boy won’t even deny it. But this is just sad to see, they don’t even have good enough tech for the PS6 I bet. The release of the PS5 Pro was lackluster and has me feeling no rush to get the PS6.”

ps6.png

With the next-gen Xbox itself rumored to release in 2028, it is hard to imagine a reality where the PS6, the current market leader, comes out a year earlier in 2027. Meanwhile, last time there were four years between the release of the PS4 Pro and the PS5. There is no guarantee this will repeat, especially given it would mean the gap between PS4 and PS5 wouldn’t repeat, but a 2024 release for the PS5 Pro would suggest a 2028 PS6 release.

Unfortunately, right now, all we have is speculation, rumors, and reactions. There is not thing concrete about the PS6 release date. That said, while we wait for more concrete information or reporting, be sure to catch up with all of the latest PS6 news, rumors, and leaks by clicking right here.

These days, just about everything feels too expensive, from eggs to video games. In reality, games might feel pricey, but AAA titles haven’t increased in price all that steeply compared with many other entertainment outlets like a ticket to the movies or a hardcover book. Even so, a Dutch consumer protection foundation is the latest to accuse Sony of artificially inflating the price of digital games on the PS Store. Sony has previously faced lawsuits in the US and UK related to their pricing practices, which leave gamers without other options to buy games for PlayStation consoles.

Sony does not permit third party retailers like Amazon or GameStop to sell digital versions of their games, despite this being an option for other consoles on the market. That means that they have pretty much no competition when it comes to setting the cost of the games in the PS Store. For many consumers, that’s the issue, as it potentially creates an environment where Sony can set digital game prices however they like. Since there’s no competition, gamers on a PlayStation console don’t have any options. If they want to play that game, they need to pay Sony’s prices. And in a market where many gamers go directly for digital options, it’s possible that gamers don’t even realize they’re paying more for a virtual product.

digital gaming on PS5 means shopping direct from sony

As reported by Dutch website Tweakers, the latest class action lawsuit alleges that the high price of PlayStation games essentially amounts to a “Sony Tax” on consumers. Specifically, consumer foundation Massaschade & Consument claims that games on the PS Store are up charged by about 47 percent compared with physical versions of the same games. Given that digital copies should incur a lower distribution cost, the suit argues that these are “artificially high prices” resulting from PlayStation’s PS Store model.

Will Sony Allow Third-Party Digital Sales for PlayStation Consoles?

The first court hearing for the class action lawsuit against Sony should take place later this year, and Dutch PlayStation customers are still able to join in free of charge. If the claim goes through, it could mean Sony will have to open up their digital market. That would allow other retailers to sell codes for digital PlayStation games, giving customers more options of where to get games for the console. That said, there’s still a long way to go, as legal challenges like these often spend years in court.

PlayStation is about to have fresh competition on the console market

In late 2024, Sony agreed to settle in response to the similar lawsuit filed in 2023. This proposal is still being reviewed by the courts, but could eventually result in compensation for some US PlayStation customers. While the proposed settlement amount of $7.85 million might seem like a lot, it doesn’t appear to have yet shifted the needle on how PlayStation prices its digital games.

The additional pressure of yet another lawsuit around the same issue might result in changes for PlayStation gamers, especially coupled with continued frustration with Sony related to lengthy network outages. With the Switch 2 on the way, Sony will certainly have renewed console competition, which could force them to re-evaluate practices like these.
