Dragon Ball Super’s TV anime aired its final episode eight years ago today, and unfortunately this milestone is a reminder that the anime isn’t coming back for new episodes any time soon. Dragon Ball Super was a revelatory new entry for the then dormant Dragon Ball franchise. Following the success of Dragon Ball Z‘s Battle of Gods and Resurrection F feature films, the franchise came back for a much fuller continuation of Dragon Ball Z with a new TV anime series that took Goku and the others to a whole new multiverse of strong foes and abilities unlocking their godly potential.

Dragon Ball Super ran for 131 episodes, and the final episode officially made its debut in Japan on March 25, 2018. It’s been eight years since the TV anime said goodbye Goku and the others, and while we’ve had some new franchise entries in the years since, it’s far from the full continuation of the TV anime that fans have been hoping to see happen since. And as the anime celebrates this milestone, it’s just another reminder that we have yet to see a full return from Dragon Ball Super.

Dragon Ball Super Didn’t Really End With the Anime

Although Dragon Ball Super ended following the Tournament of Power back in 2018, the future of the franchise seemed bright. It was quickly confirmed that the anime would be continuing with a new feature film release so fans weren’t concerned then about the state of the anime franchise. The new film then later turned out to be full of even more surprises when Dragon Ball Super: Broly not only continued the story from the end of the TV anime series, but also introduced famous non-canon movie villain Broly into the official series timeline along with tweaking more of the Saiyans’ origins.

Dragon Ball Super then continued this hot streak with its official manga release. Dragon Ball Super‘s manga ended up releasing two brand new arcs that were not seen in the anime or movie releases, Galactic Patrol Prisoner and Granolah the Survivor. This got fans excited over the prospect of potentially getting more episodes someday, and this excitement grew even further with the release of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero feature film, which ended up taking place after those arcs. Then the manga took it even further with a massive Frieza cliffhanger that we’ve yet to see followed up on.

Shueisha

Is Dragon Ball Super Ever Coming Back?

Dragon Ball’s anime franchise has even been active with the release of Dragon Ball Daima, which told a brand new story of its own. This was a big event as it features the final story from series creator Akira Toriyama and changed the Dragon Ball timeline forever, but it’s still not the continuation of Dragon Ball Super that fans had been hoping to see. This might seem an even more daunting task as well as the manga is on hiatus (and still on a cliffhanger) following Toriyama’s passing too.

But with those behind the anime franchise eager to keep it going, it’s highly likely that Dragon Ball Super will return someday. It might not be for even longer than fans might expect as the franchise really needs to end the manga story before continuing the anime. Otherwise, we’d end up in this same boat waiting for the franchise to continue. So it might be a good while before we get to see Dragon Ball Super return, but it’s not impossible. It’s just going to involve more waiting through bummer milestones like this.

Dragon Ball Super is in the midst of a new hiatus as the manga’s future remains uncertain, but there’s some hope for the future with the coolest cover art for the manga with its next big volume release. Dragon Ball Super has been on a hiatus following the end of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc last Spring, and the future of the franchise on a whole has been a mystery following the passing of original franchise creator Akira Toriyama. But the manga has shown an interest in continuing as the artist behind it has been going all out with new releases.

Dragon Ball Super briefly returned from its long hiatus earlier this year with a brand new chapter of the manga that showcased a new side of Goten and Trunks before the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc. This was a welcome return to fans as this was not only the first new release for the series seen in a year since the hiatus began, but also it meant that the manga could move forward with a new volume of the series. And its cover is one of the best yet, so you should check it out below as spotted by @DbsHype on X.

What to Know for Dragon Ball Super Volume 24

Dragon Ball Super Volume 24 will be hitting shelves across Japan beginning on April 4th, but an international release date has yet to be set as of the time of this publication. This volume will be pulling together the currently final four chapters of the series between Chapter 101 and Chapter 104 (which was the new one-shot released mid-hiatus). The series has since gone back on hiatus since the release of Chapter 104 earlier this year, and there are no signs of it returning any time soon. So this newest volume holds quite a bit of weight.

As it might be the final volume of Dragon Ball Super we’ll get to have for a while, this cover holds a lot of significance. Not only is this showcasing a dream team up featuring all of the Z-Fighters’ newest forms that we have yet to get in the series itself, but this is a great image to potentially end on if the series never actually returns with new chapters. It’s each of these fighters at their very strongest, and it’s something fans are dying to see more of some day.

Shueisha

Will Dragon Ball Super Ever Come Back?

Dragon Ball Super‘s future might look uncertain for now, but there is a lot of potential for the manga still on the table to explore. It’s a tough road to travel down as it might be a difficult situation to continue the franchise’s story following Toriyama’s passing, but anime releases like Dragon Ball Daima had been able to take Toriyama’s story in a whole new direction. With Dragon Ball Super’s future still in flux, that might be the path the franchise goes down next.

Dragon Ball Super still left off its story on a massive cliffhanger following the end of the Granolah the Survivor arc too. It was revealed that Frieza had now become the strongest warrior in Universe 7 thanks to training within a Hyperbolic Time Chamber for ten years, and through it unlocked the powerful new Black Frieza form. If the series does continue, it should prioritize this story and make sure to end it without leaving fans on a cliffhanger with so much potential otherwise. It’s just too good to pass up. Especially when adding in the potential of a team up like seen with this cover.

Dragon Ball Daima is over, having released its twentieth and final anime episode. Since Toei Animation hasn’t revealed whether this Akira Toriyama-fueled adventure will return for a second season, the best thing to do now for anime fans is to do an autopsy on the Dragon Ball Z sequel. The series might have given anime fans quite a few bits of “fan service” by introducing Super Saiyan 4 to the Z-Fighter universe while finally giving Vegeta his Super Saiyan 3 transformation, the lack of a big fusion moment is still perplexing fans. Introducing an amazing new element thanks to the Demon Realm, Daima missed out on something that could have been truly special.

The Join Bugs were introduced as a part of a lone shop in the bowels of the Demon Realm, which Son Goku, the Supreme Kai, and their demonic allies encountered in their fight against Gomah. Throughout Dragon Ball Daima, the Z-Fighters would routinely scarf down the Medi Bugs, aka the insects that had similar properties to that of the Senzu Beans which are a series staple. Unfortunately, the Join Bugs were never used, despite the fact that they were explained and could have given the shonen franchise an entirely new way for heroes to fuse. What was also lost in never using the Join Bugs was the opportunity for Dragon Ball Daima to introduce new fusions, because let’s face it, the shonen’s fusions have been stale as of late.

A Missed Fusion Opportunity

toei animation

For the longest time, Goku and Vegeta have been the gold standard when it comes to Dragon Ball fusions and for the most part, it has seemed like the only fusion we’ve seen. While we will see Goten and Trunks perform the fusion dance to summon Gotenks to the scene, there have been little to no fusions when it comes to other Z-Fighter pairings. Since Piccolo was there with the other heroes in the Demon Realm, the opportunity for the Namekian to potentially fuse with the Saiyans in Daima feels like a missed opportunity.

Even seeing Glorio fusing with Goku would have made for an interesting scene, bucking the trend of the usual Vegito and/or Gogeta fusions. Ironically enough, the Join Bugs might have even created a new Goku/Vegeta fusion in which the two Saiyans don a new appearance and name as they did when they fused in the past. It’s one of the biggest misses for an anime series that was able to give fans far more than they bargained for.

Where Can You See Dragon Ball Fusions?

To start, Dragon Ball Heroes as a franchise was more than willing to create wild fusions that never made their way to the main canon. The arcade cabinet turned anime adaptation featured Gohan fusing with Trunks, Trunks fusing with Vegeta, and many more hitting the scene for the first time. With Dragon Ball set to potentially continue for decades, it is still possible that we could see fusions that buck the trend of what has come before.

Ironically enough, there is a Dragon Ball video game that was specifically made to focus on fusions. Dragon Ball Fusions was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016 and allowed players to effectively fuse any and every character from the shonen series. While a re-release for the game hasn’t been confirmed, we’re crossing our fingers that its many fusions will one day find their place back in the world.

The final project by Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Daima, concluded last month, leaving fans with nostalgic and bittersweet feelings. The acclaimed and beloved author wrote the story, designed the characters, and oversaw the production. The story takes place shortly after the Majin Buu Saga, as Goku and his friends face another major problem – they are turned into children. The culprit behind this is the new Supreme Demon King Gomah, who takes the throne after Dabura’s death. Gomah has never seen people nearly as powerful as Goku and his friends and is afraid that someday they will attack the Demon World too.

The story continues as Goku and the others travel all the way to the other world in hopes of acquiring their dragon balls. The anime was released around the same time as the manga’s 40th anniversary and captured fans’ hearts with gorgeous animation, expansive world-building, and adorable character design. When the anime entered its final stretch, it included an unexpected transformation, Super Saiyan 4, which fans adore more than ever. The transformation was first introduced in Dragon Ball GT but has never been considered canon until now. While the anime has ended, it didn’t answer a major question fans were looking for, with a bizarre, supposedly coded message in the episode titles.

Dragon Ball Daima Episode Titles Were Suspected of Hiding a Secret Message

During the New Year’s special, All Night Nippon – Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Special, Dragon Ball Daima’s Executive Producer, Akio Iyoku, discussed the series. The 20-minute program was made available on Radiko’s official website. Since the original broadcast was in Japanese, @peraperayume on X (previously known as Twitter) translated and highlighted key points. Iyoku revealed that the episode titles hold a hidden meaning, which will only be unveiled after the season concludes. However, he refrained from providing further details, as it was meant to be a significant aspect of the show.

Each episode title has one character highlighted in red. The idea was that these characters from all twenty episodes would have a special meaning. However, even after the anime was concluded, there was no explanation about the episode titles. Since the letters are in Japanese, it’s more difficult for global fans to figure out the meaning. Even though the anime has ended, Iyoku hasn’t stepped forward to explain it yet. It’s possible that it contains some kind of wordplay, but we can’t know for sure.

Forming a coherent Japanese sentence using only those letters is nearly impossible, especially while using each one only once, but it might not strictly be meant as a written message. It’s been a popular puzzle, tied to the titles’ usage of each of the 20 dakuon katakana, essentially Japanese letters with two “muddy” accent marks. @Herms98 on X tried to solve this puzzle and came up with an answer. While it doesn’t fully explain everything, the user believes it corresponds to each of the twenty episodes of Dragon Ball Daima. The finale aired right before March 1st, 2025, the first anniversary of Toriyama’s passing. Hence, there is a possibility that Toei wanted to include one final tribute in the anime, using each of these unique characters once apiece.

What’s Next For Dragon Ball After Daima’s Ending?

As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding upcoming projects related to the franchise. Dragon Ball Daima’s post-credit scene left room for the story to develop later on. Unexpectedly, the third eye, which granted immense power to the previous Demon Kings, wasn’t a unique item, as there are two more available at a mysterious store selling strange, status-altering consumables called medi-bugs, sky seeds, etc. There was no explanation about where the eyes come from and why they grant someone that much power.

Even so, the ending was wholesome, and there’s no guarantee that there will be a sequel. Furthermore, Dragon Ball Super is still on indefinite hiatus, even though it released a single chapter in February 2025. The series went on hiatus in March 2024, the same month Toriyama died. Toyotaro, the author of the spin-off manga Dragon Ball Heroes: Victory Mission and the illustrator of Dragon Ball Super, will be taking the helm as he will now be working on both the story and art. However, it’s still unclear when the manga will return to its usual schedule. Dragon Ball is one of the most iconic anime and manga franchises in history, so Toei and Shonen Jump won’t let it end with Daima.

With Dragon Ball Daima ending and Super on hiatus, the franchise’s future still remains uncertain. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama died at the age of 68 in March 2024, with Daima being his final project. He wrote the story and was responsible for the character designs in this 20-episode anime series. Furthermore, Toriyama was also writing Dragon Ball Super’s story, with Toyotaro working as the illustrator. The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus since March 2024. Although it returned with a single chapter in February 2025, the release date of the upcoming chapter is still unconfirmed. Toyotaro is expected to take over the helm with the manga’s return.

The Dragon Ball manga debuted in 1984, and the anime first aired in 1986. The franchise is relatively old, and its legacy is unparalleled. However, with the latest advancements in technology, the animation quality of Dragon Ball and its sequel, Dragon Ball Z, has long been outdated. Since the franchise doesn’t have more canon materials, Toei can still work on movies and special episodes. However, fans wouldn’t mind a remake of their favorite anime with the best quality character design, original soundtrack, and, of course, animation. One of the oldest Dragon Ball animators, Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, shares his thoughts on the series remake.

Dragon Ball Animator Believes a Remake Will Happen One Day

Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru is an animator and character designer who has been a part of the Dragon Ball franchise for decades. He worked as the character designer for the later parts of Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and the Dragon Ball Z films, as well as a key animator for the 1997 remake of Dr. Slump. Nakatsuru also designed the first Super Saiyan 4 transformation in Dragon Ball GT, which was later slightly changed by Toriyama in Daima.

Toei Animation

In a recent interview with the @db_times, a popular YouTube channel dedicated solely to Dragon Ball, Nakatsuru sheds light on his involvement in Daima and the older series. He also confirms that it was indeed Toriyama who designed Super Saiyan 4 in Daima in a way that made it the “Super Saiyan 4 of Daima“. The interview was translated by @Venixys on X, a Dragon Ball fan account. When asked if he would like to participate in a remake, he shares, “If I could contribute something and be useful in some way, I would love to. But if we were to start again from the Dragon Ball manga, perhaps younger people would want to completely re-adapt it.”

The original manga alone has 520 chapters, with several sequels. Hence, it will take years of work to even come up with a plan for a complete remake. Nakatsuru thinks that it will happen someday, however, he didn’t guarantee that the remake is already decided by Toei. He believes the original work will offer new possibilities for the younger generation, helping people enjoy Toiyama’s work as long as possible. Not only that, but these new ideas can even create something beyond Toriyama’s imagination.

Following the conclusion of Dragon Ball Daima, shonen fans have wondered what is next for the Z-Fighter franchise. Dragon Ball Super released its first new chapter in some time earlier this year but the manga has yet to announce when new installments will arrive, to say nothing of a return date for the anime. In a recent interview, Daima animator Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru reflected on the arrival of this surprising sequel series. During the interview, Nakatsuru also reflected on the idea of starting from the beginning with a Dragon Ball Remake.

In the recent interview, Katsuyoshi dove right into the topic of whether he would be a part of a remake were he given the opportunity, “If I could contribute something and be useful in some way, I would love to, but if we were to start again from the Dragon Ball manga, perhaps younger people would want to completely re-adapt it. This would probably offer new possibilities. Perhaps younger people would want to completely re-adapt it. In any case, the original work exists, and from there, there are multiple ways to create a new series. Since I think it will happen one day, I also think that whether I participate or not is not that important.”

Nakatsuru Rocks The Dragon

Toei Animation

The Dragon Ball animator continued, “Perhaps what matters most is that everyone can enjoy the franchise for as long as possible. And maybe, in this way, some will be inspired by Toriyama-sensei’s work and we could ever see a creation that goes beyond even Toriyama-sensei’s imagination and still, perhaps, enjoy it.”

As it stands, creators behind the shonen franchise have teased the idea that the story of Dragon Ball could continue for decades into the future even after Toriyama’s tragic passing. Most likely, for Dragon Ball Super, artist Toyotaro would take the reins of the series and follow-up on some major plotlines that have yet to be resolved, such as Frieza’s new ultimate transformation.

Dragon Ball Daima’s Future

Earlier this year, the twentieth episode of Dragon Ball Daima was released, seeing the Z-Fighters return to their normal, adult selves while also having them leave the Demon Realm after spending the majority of the anime there. Since this series was created thanks to a heavy influence from creator Akira Toriyama, the chances of a second season seem unlikely at this point especially considering the fact that the anime which gave us a canon Super Saiyan 4 takes place before the events of Super.

Still, with the many new characters and transformations that were introduced in Dragon Ball Daima, it seems likely that we’ll see some of them make a comeback in Dragon Ball Super’s future. The idea of never revisiting Super Saiyan 4 following Goku revealing that he can access this transformation at will seems unbelievable, and fingers crossed that we see the form return sooner rather than later.

Dragon Ball Daima had shocked fans when the final episodes revealed a brand new version of Super Saiyan 4, and it turns out that original creator Akira Toriyama wanted to be sure this new version would be definitive to the anime. Dragon Ball Daima kicked off a new adventure in the official Dragon Ball timeline as Goku and the Supreme Kai headed out on a trip into the Demon Realm. This anime featured a new story from Akira Toriyama himself, and added some major changes to the canon with each new reveal about the Demon Relam itself. But those weren’t the only notable changes.

Along with many of the other smaller reveals about the Demon Realm and its ties to the multiverse we would see later in Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball Daima had added a significant retcon that Goku also was secretly training to achieve the Super Saiyan 4 form and even revealed a new version of it in the final battle against Gomah. But as explained by Dragon Ball Daima animator Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru in a recent interview with DBTimes, it turns out that Akira Toriyama himself also designed this new version of Super Saiyan 4 but changed it for the new anime.

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball’s Akira Toriyama Designed New SSJ4 Goku

When asked about whether or not he was behind the new Super Saiyan 4 Goku design (as spotted by @Venixys on X), Nakatsuru explained that it was actually Toriyama himself behind it. Settling that debate among fans once and for all with, “No, this time…in Daima...it was Toriyama-sensei who also designed Super Saiyan 4. He drew it in a way that made it ‘the Super Saiyan 4 of Daima.‘” So while Nakatsuru had helped with bringing the designs to life in the anime, it was Toriyama himself that ultimately designed this new version of Super Saiyan 4.

This helps to settle a debate among fans as Super Saiyan 4 is now not only firmly within the overall Dragon Ball canon, but has a new design from Toriyama himself specifically for the new anime. This helps to further differentiate Dragon Ball Daima‘s version of the form than the one seen in Dragon Ball GT, and even helps to tie into the transformations Goku would unlock in Dragon Ball Super later thanks to the deeper reds seen within this new version of the form.

Toei Animation

What Does This Mean for Super Saiyan 4?

Now that it has been confirmed that Toriyama designed this new version of the form, it’s on the table for any potential future releases. Because one of the issues fans had about the debut of the form in general is when it’s supposed to be taking place. As Dragon Ball Daima is set after the events of the Majin Buu arc but before the Battle of Gods arc that helps to kick off Dragon Ball Super, it had seemed like Goku had unlocked this form but never decided to use it in any future fights for whatever reason.

But if Dragon Ball ever returns for either new Dragon Ball Super stories or an entirely new Dragon Ball anime project altogether, then this new (and definitive) version of Super Saiyan 4 can make a proper comeback. This also means that like with Vegeta also unlocking Super Saiyan 3 within Dragon Ball Daima, then there’s potential for Vegeta to also get his own version of the Super Saiyan 4 form as well now that Toriyama has left a blueprint behind. And that’s an exciting prospect heading into the future.

Dragon Ball Super is currently in the middle of a hiatus with no announced plans to return, but the manga should come back for a final arc to help resolve the massive Black Frieza cliffhanger to help end it all officially. Dragon Ball Super has been on a hiatus since the passing of franchise creator Akira Toriyama last year. The final chapter of this run wrapped up the epilogue for the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc, so it seemed like a fitting conclusion at the time should the series never return. But unfortunately, there’s still one lingering cliffhanger that’s too juicy to pass up.

Dragon Ball Super has teased that while it might be on a hiatus for now, there’s still interest from series artist Toyotaro (and publisher Shueisha) that it could continue with new material in the future. There was a brand new one-shot that showcased more of Goten and Trunks’ side of the story before the events of the Super Hero arc, so that could be the first sign of continuing with even more. It’s going to be a dangerous tightrope to walk for the series’ future, so maybe the best option is to come back for one final arc to bring it to a proper ending.

Shueisha

Dragon Ball Super Needs an Official Ending

The unfortunate nature of Dragon Ball Super’s limbo is the fact that the series still needs a proper ending. While it’s taking place before the end of Dragon Ball Z‘s final time skip years into the future, there was still plenty of room to explore with new stories. It’s what had interested fans about Dragon Ball Super in the first place. Because while Toriyama was not directly crafting the manga or anime releases, the creator was offering new ideas and stories to expand on the Dragon Ball universe in new ways never seen before. So while it was set before the time skip, it was also a fitting sequel.

It’s something that really drew fans to Dragon Ball Daima‘s anime release as well. This anime picked up right after the events of the Majin Buu arc and before Beerus and Whis arrived during Battle of Gods, and helped to expand the Dragon Ball world in some notable ways. While the end of the series did create some unusual trouble for fans’ understanding of the overall timeline, it did get to have a proper ending at the end of the day. It’s something that has eluded Dragon Ball Super as it was continuing to open up the multiverse in some wild new ways.

Dragon Ball Super had a lot more room to play with in the timeline as there’s still many years between where the series is at the end of Super Hero and at the end of Dragon Ball Z. With so many new additions to the lore with the multiverse alone, it really seemed like Dragon Ball Super was primed to go on for a very long time with new stories to continue for multiple years to come. But since we’re no longer in a place where that could happen, there’s a fitting place to end with a full circle villain that has been a thorn in Goku and the Z Fighters’ side since the earliest arcs of the series.

Shueisha

Black Frieza Is a Perfect Final Dragon Ball Villain

Dragon Ball Super opened up the franchise to a potential multiverse of new stories, but we’re in a much different world for the series now. Without Akira Toriyama overseeing the project, it’s likely going to be tough for Toyotaro to properly continue the series in the way fans are hoping for. The best middle ground in all of this is for Dragon Ball Super to get its final arc and have a proper ending to the story. It’s not going to be what fans might want considering the potential, but Dragon Ball Super (and Dragon Ball as a whole) is not going to be the same either way without Toriyama around. Especially because the entire “canon” of the series will no longer be as concretely defined in any potential future releases.

To get around this, the best way to go is for one final Dragon Ball Super arc to fully explore that final massive cliffhanger. At the end of the Granolah the Survivor arc, it was revealed that Frieza had become the new strongest warrior in Universe 7 after stumbling on a Hyperbolic Time Chamber out in space and training for ten years of time within it. This gave Frieza a brand new form, Black Frieza, and with it he took out both Goku and Vegeta with a single punch. Also being sure to defeat the seemingly immortal villain Gas in the process (after Goku and Vegeta struggled for an entire arc to deal any damage to). Ever since, fans have been obsessed with this idea.

The Dragon Ball Super manga then continued with an adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero feature film that had an additional prologue and epilogue that included brand new story bits. It was revealed that Goku and Vegeta had taken Broly to train on Beerus’ planet in the hopes of catching up to Frieza. By the end of the arc, they also had Gohan Beast and Orange Piccolo who had reached strong enough forms to fight against Frieza on what could be an even playing field. Now it’s just a matter of bringing this fight to the page.

The question from that point on would then be whether or not this would be a satisfying final battle for the series. Frieza has been the most recurring villain in the franchise, and has survived death multiple times to provide new threats in some of the biggest arcs in Dragon Ball Super overall. Playing key roles in the Resurrection F, Tournament of Power, and Granolah the Survivor Arcs, there’s really no villain who’s going to be a bigger and more notable threat than Frieza at this point. Which is now even more true thanks to his new form.

If Dragon Ball Super’s Manga Ends, The Anime Can Return

Facing down Frieza in this way with a fully mastered Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego would allow Dragon Ball to have a thematically fitting end as they finally bring down the foe that’s been giving them the most trouble all this time. More importantly, if Dragon Ball Super has a proper ending with a Black Frieza arc then it’s likely that the anime can make a full comeback of its own. Dragon Ball Super’s anime release has also been in a state of limbo since it ended its run back in 2018. While the stories had continued with Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (and in the manga), it’s a far cry from the hopeful return of the TV anime.

A potential new Dragon Ball Super anime would pick up from where it left off with new adaptations of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner and Granolah the Survivor arcs, but it would then face the issue of not having a proper climax like seen before. The Tournament of Power was a fitting place to end the original anime series because it was an explosive arc filled with many episodes worth of fights, and got to end with that surprise team up between Goku, Frieza and Android 17. So a new anime needs that kind of ending too. It couldn’t just end with Frieza’s return in this new form.

Giving Black Frieza the final Dragon Ball Super arc would then leave room for a potential return for the anime. It can adapt the manga’s three remaining arcs to screen, and come to an end with a potentially explosive finale between Goku and Frieza once more. Frieza’s new force will likely be much stronger as a result of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber as well, and this will give all the other fighters something to do as it ends. But ultimately, it will allow a new Dragon Ball Super anime enough room to explore a proper comeback rather than returning to adapt an (as of now) incomplete series.

Because that would be the worst aspect of a new Dragon Ball Super TV anime at the moment. For as much as fans want to see a new series (especially after seeing how big of a deal Dragon Ball Daima turned out to be), Dragon Ball Super‘s return would be premature before settling its manga’s future. It would only adapt the two new arcs available, and then comes to an end with a fizzle as fans wait for more. That seems like it would be an even bigger disappointment than not seeing new episodes, so it’s probably best to avoid it before there’s an actual ending. Luckily, there’s one right in Dragon Ball Super‘s already made path.

Dragon Ball Super has dropped some cool new art for the series’ next volume, and it has settled the debate over Broly’s new Super Saiyan form. Although Dragon Ball Super’s official manga release skipped over a potential adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super: Broly feature film, the manga has actually included a ton of Broly material despite that. The first look at Broly in the manga, however, had depicted him with blond hair instead of the green hair he’s seen using in the feature film when going Super Saiyan. This opened up a debate between which of the two versions was part of the official canon.

This debate made a lot of sense considering how differently the manga approached events first seen in the anime, but now it can be settled once and for all. Dragon Ball Super has dropped the first look at the cover for Volume 24 of the manga release and with it drops some cool new art from artist Toyotaro. This art depicts Broly in his new state where he’s fully controlling his Super Saiyan power, and now depicts him with the green hair as seen in the anime’s version of the transformation (and settling that debate once and for all). Check it out below as spotted by @DbsHype on X.

What Is Broly’s New Super Saiyan Form?

Before it had gone on its current lengthy hiatus, Dragon Ball Super’s manga adapted the events of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero feature film in a totally new kind of way. While it was directly adapting the film’s events within its pages, the manga went a step further to included a full prologue and epilogue to the arc that added tons of new story materials. This included more of the training between Goku, Vegeta, and Broly that they had been briefly seen doing on Beerus’ planet during the film’s events.

Now with this expanded look at their training, it’s revealed that Goku had wanted to bring Broly along in order to better get him to master his control over the Super Saiyan Full Power transformation. This might be unique to Broly as it’s a transformation fueled by his rage, but in his training on Beerus’ planet, Broly is able to snap out of his berserk state and fully control his Super Saiyan power. This kicks off a new evolution for Broly’s power, and teases a future where he can stand alongside Universe 7’s strongest defenders like seen in this new art.

Will We See More of This New Broly Form Soon?

Dragon Ball Super has been in the midst of a lengthy hiatus following Akira Toriyama’s passing last year, and it has yet to be revealed if their are any extended plans to bring the manga back as of the time of this publication. There is some hope in this manner as Dragon Ball Super returned last month with a brand new chapter exploring more of Trunks and Goten before the events of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc. So there’s at least some forward momentum in some form.

There’s still a lingering cliffhanger following the Super Hero arc too as it was revealed that Frieza is now the strongest warrior in Universe 7 with a brand new form to boot. And with the recent end of the Dragon Ball Daima anime series (which had a ton of surprises that could further tie into Dragon Ball Super‘s future), there’s now more hope than ever before that we’ll get to see new Dragon Ball Super stories in the future.

Dragon Ball Daima might be over but this doesn’t mean that the shonen franchise has ended but this doesn’t mean that the Z-Fighters are on their way out. Dragon Ball Super recently released a new chapter that focused on Goten and Trunks learning to be costumed crime fighters in a special one-shot. While the shonen franchise has yet to confirm what the future holds for its anime adaptation or its manga, the new cover art is going viral thanks to bringing together the absolute strongest beings on the heroic side of the aisle.

The art in question is for the 24th volume of Dragon Ball Super’s manga, collecting the latest individual chapters of the series into one collection. On the cover, the shonen series sees Ultra Instinct Goku, Super Saiyan Broly, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Gohan Beast, and Orange Piccolo side-by-side. While the final chapters from Akira Toriyama did focus on Gohan Beast testing out his power against Goku, Vegeta, and Broly, we have yet to see all of these characters in their strongest forms standing next to one another. With Frieza still the strongest being in the universe thanks to attaining his new transformation, Black Frieza, seeing this team-up take place in the Z-Fighters’ story seems inevitable.

Shueisha

The Strongest Z-Fighters Assemble

For those who need a refresher for when Gohan Beast took on Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, and Broly, the fight took place following the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. While readers didn’t get a definitive answer as to which of these Z-Fighters is currently the strongest, it’s clear that the Saiyans have hit a wild new level of power thanks to recent events. Whenever Dragon Ball Super’s manga does return following the 104th chapter, it’s sure to be quite the event in the anime world and we would expect to see Goku and company at their strongest. Fans can expect this volume to hit the stands on April 4th in Japan.

What Daima Means For Super’s Future

Following Dragon Ball Daima’s recent finale, many shonen fans are left wondering what this might mean for the future of the series. While Son Goku never unleashed the power of Super Saiyan 4, and Vegeta never relied on Super Saiyan 3, in Dragon Ball Super, there’s a strong possibility that we can officially see these transformations debut in the manga. Since the Demon Realm is now ruled by the benevolent Majin Kuu, peace has seemingly come to the underworld though this can always change.

Following Akira Toriyama’s tragic passing last year, it will be interesting to see where the manga will go moving forward. Will Toyotaro, the current Super artist, be leading the charge or will a new writer hop aboard to work with the mangaka? Only time will tell.

Dragon Ball Daima has officially come to an end, so now is the best time to look back on it all and figure out whether or not it was a great entry in the anime franchise. Dragon Ball Daima released as part of the celebration for the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s original Dragon Ball manga release, and saw Goku and the Supreme Kai go on a brand new adventure through the Demon Realm. This was a brand new story crafted by the late Akira Toriyama, and ended up being a fitting tribute to the creator following his passing last year.

Although it was later revealed by those behind the scenes that Dragon Ball Daima was not crafted as a 40th anniversary celebration, and only happened to line up with it upon release, Dragon Ball Daima still felt like the perfect encapsulation of those 40 years of history. At times nostalgic, but still had plenty of fresh ideas of its own, Dragon Ball Daima is now firmly within the overall timeline of the Dragon Ball anime’s history. But at the end of the day, was it actually a good anime? The answer might be different depending on who you’d ask, but ultimately it was good because it exists.

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball Daima Took a While to Get Going

Dragon Ball Daima had a promising opening as the first episode was an extended runtime premiere that acted as a bridge between the events of Dragon Ball Z and the new adventure coming ahead. The anime teased fans about the kind of show that would be coming ahead, but ended with Goku and the others being turned into children. This was something that had been receiving a mixed response ever since promotional materials were first revealed, but the premiere featured enough of a makeover for nostalgic events that it was ultimately received well.

It just took a while to really get going from that point, unfortunately. Because as Goku and the others were working their way into the Demon Realm, the episodic nature of the series meant that fans were going to be taken on a much slower paced adventure than the first episode had promised. This took some getting used to for fans who had been hoping for more, but it was just an adjustment period. Those hoping for something like Dragon Ball Super might have been disappointed, but ultimately these smaller adventures were reminiscent of classic Dragon Ball or even Dragon Ball GT episodes (which was a very intentional move by the staff).

For a 20 episode series, Dragon Ball Daima took a while to really kick in its full adventure. The series made sure to really shine in moments where Goku Mini was able to unleash the full slate of his abilities, so it’s a complicated matter. Without the smaller adventure moments, these brief fights would not have been as impressive by comparison. But if there were fewer episodes spending time with these smaller moments, then there might have been more time that could have been used for more prominent fights. It really just depends on what you’re looking for in Dragon Ball, but it’s hard to deny that this was a slow burn.

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball Daima Changed the Canon Forever, Good and Bad

Dragon Ball Daima’s core appeal wasn’t the fights, however, it was all of the new information about the Dragon Ball franchise. Dragon Ball Daima was stuck in a precarious position within the overall timeline as it was set after the events of the Majin Buu arc but before Beerus and Whis arrived at the start of Dragon Ball Super. This was a period of time left unexplored, but it also meant that for much of the anime’s run fans wouldn’t get any massive shake ups. Instead, these shake ups came from our understanding of the characters.

With every new detail of the Demon Realm, Dragon Ball fans were treated to major expansions of the lore. It was here that Namekians were confirmed to be demons (along with every other being with pointy ears), the Demon Realm created the multiverse and sent the Kais to watch over each one, and Majin Buu was created by someone other than Bibidi (and thus could be replicated further). Each of these reveals were the major treats instead of the action sequences, so it was a reward for long time fans. Soon enough, things exploded.

Dragon Ball Daima then threw all of that into chaos as it was coming to an end. While it took its time before, the final third of the series was especially quick in how it progressed and a little more reckless with the timeline. Goku debuted Super Saiyan 4 officially, Vegeta revealed his take on Super Saiyan 3, and they just had them the entire time without a regard for any of the potential developments we would see in Dragon Ball Super‘s future events. It’s just unfortunate that it ended up feeling a bit haphazard compared to how much care was paid to the first half of the series.

That’s why Dragon Ball Daima‘s finale didn’t quite hit the mark as well as fans might have hoped in the end. It was told in an uneven way across its 20 episodes, and really stacked it more at the beginning and the end. If there was a better balance each week then fans might have had a better overall time. But at the end of day, it’s still a good show. Not only is it brand new Dragon Ball, but it’s likely the final new story we’ll get from the late Akira Toriyama. And that’s reason enough for this to be good.

Dragon Ball Daima officially came to an end last month, and one prominent DC Comics artist is celebrating the finale with a cool new tribute to Super Saiyan 4 Goku. Dragon Ball Daima had some massive reveals for fans as with it being set after the events of the Majin Buu arc, the new story following Goku through the Demon Realm came with a number of major changes to the Dragon Ball timeline. The biggest shake up came towards the end of the series as it was revealed that Goku now had access to a brand new version of Super Saiyan 4.

This form was previously exclusive to the non-canonical events of the Dragon Ball GT anime, and is thus now an official part of the Dragon Ball canon as overseen by late series creator Akira Toriyama. This new version of the form also came with a brand new look for the famous transformation as well as seen in Dragon Ball Daima‘s final episodes. Now this new Super Saiyan 4 Goku has gotten a whole new makeover as shared by Dan Mora, who won ComicBook.com’s Golden Issue Award for Best Cover Artist last year. Check it out below.

What’s New About Super Saiyan 4?

With this new take on the Super Saiyan 4 transformation, Dragon Ball Daima has unfortunately divided fans. While it was confirmed by Goku to also be named Super Saiyan 4 within the official Dragon Ball timeline, it was then revealed that it was brought about through normal training. Goku had been secretly training to access the form after fighting Majin Buu, but was unsure of whether or not he could pull it off. So while it seemed like Neva’s magic helped to awaken this latent power within him, Goku himself was already on the verge of unlocking the transformation naturally.

This has raised some unfortunate questions about Goku in the future of the series too. Because Dragon Ball Daima takes place after the fight with Majin Buu, but before Beerus and Whis arrive, Goku has apparently had this transformation within him but never decided to use it regardless of the situation. It’s an unfortunate retcon for the Dragon Ball Super series as now it seems like Goku just never decided to use this form despite how powerful it seems within the Dragon Ball Daima finale. It’s led to some debates that fans will likely have for years to come.

Will We See Super Saiyan 4 Goku Again?

At the same time, while Goku has never used Super Saiyan 4 within Dragon Ball Super, there’s still a potential to see the form in action again in the series’ future. Dragon Ball Super is currently on hiatus with no manga or anime releases on the horizon as of the time of this publication, but there’s a chance that the series will return. Dragon Ball Super‘s manga already returned earlier this Spring with a new story from artist Toyotaro without Akira Toriyama’s oversight, so there is a precedent set for the franchise to continue.

Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku has also expressed a desire to continue the Dragon Ball anime with new stories following Dragon Ball Daima, so there’s a chance fans will see Super Saiyan 4 in action in some form someday. With all of the advancements Goku makes later in the timeline, we might even see some new advancements for the Super Saiyan 4 form too much like how the god forms brought out Super Saiyan transformations in new kinds of ways.

It turns out that Dragon Ball Daima and the Marvel Cinematic Universe have a lot more in common than you’d expect as the post-credits scene from the finale mirrors one big reveal in Marvel’s Loki series on Disney+. Dragon Ball Daima has officially come to an end, and fans are now working through all of the changes it has made to the official Dragon Ball canon so far. But while it made some massive reveals changing the franchise forever, the series ended on a final joke that only series creator Akira Toriyama could have thought of as a new legendary item is revealed to not really be that rare at all.

Dragon Ball Daima had been focusing its final fight on taking down the Supreme Demon King Gomah, who had been powered up to a whole new level thanks to using the Evil Third Eye. But as the anime revealed with its final post-credits scene, the Evil Third Eye wasn’t as special as Goku and the others had thought. Which really mirrors a scene in Loki where he finds out that the Infinity Stones that had been at the center of an entire saga really amounted to no more than trinkets in a desk.

Toei Animation

How Does Dragon Ball Daima?

In the final scene of Dragon Ball Daima, Goku and the others head back to the Third Demon World shop where they had bought the Medi Bugs in the hopes of bringing them back to Earth. It’s here that they search through more of the shop, and suddenly find a jar with two eyes in it. It’s here the shopkeeper then reveals that these are Tertian Oculuses, the very same Third Eyes that the Demon King just used to boost his power. The shopkeeper then explains how she sold one long ago, but hasn’t been able to move any in the years since.

It’s a reveal that’s one final gag from Akira Toriyama as it explains that these powerful objects were actually quite common in the Demon Realm. These highly sought after and powerful relics were just hiding out in a random shop, and Gomah (or any other Demon King) could have gotten them at any time. Yet, they’ve been hiding under their noses the entire time. It’s the kind of realization that Loki had during his Disney+ series as well as he soon realized how small his universe’s troubles have been within the grand scheme of the multiverse.

Disney / Toei Animation

How This Is In Common With Loki

In Disney+’s Loki series, Loki is trapped within the TVA and discovers that he’s just one being in one timeline in a massive web of other universes and timelines. It’s a lot for the god to take in as he’s been thinking so highly of himself the entire time, but the real reality of the scope kicks in when he finds a drawer filled with many different Infinity Stones. In his universe, these Infinity Stones completely warped reality and changes many lives. But to the TVA, they’re basically just paper weights.

It’s a joke of a reveal to not only highlight how small Loki is within the multiverse, but also showcases that these once thought powerful items really aren’t that important either. It’s the same treatment that the Third Eyes get at the end of Dragon Ball Daima, and it’s appropriate given that it’s not long after these events that Goku and the others find out that they are a part of a wider multiverse in Dragon Ball Super too.

Akira Toriyama’s final work Dragon Ball Daima has finally reached its conclusion around the same time as his first death anniversary. The author worked on the story and character design before supervising the anime’s production. Needless to say, the show was well-received by fans. The series follows Goku and his friends in a new adventure as they navigate the Demon World in hopes of finding the Dragon Balls. After getting turned into children by Gomah, who also kidnapped Dende, their only hope now is the Demon World. However, the Dragon Balls in the Demon World are guarded by powerful warriors known as Tamagami.

With their bodies turned into children, venturing into an unknown world is nothing to scoff at. While Goku heads there with Gomah and Supreme Kai, Vegeta and the others soon follow suit. The group reunites after Goku acquires one of the three Dragon Balls by defeating the Tamagami Number 3. Meanwhile, Vegeta defeated the Tamagami from the second world. He also surprises fans with a never-before-seen transformation, with fans quickly pointing out an amusing callback in how Vegeta names it, to Trunks’ name for that same form in Dragon Ball Z.

Vegeta and Trunks Thought of Similar Names for Their New Super Saiyan Forms in Dragon Ball

The series also includes several memorable moments giving Vegeta the much-deserved spotlight. Fans witness his Super Saiyan 3 form for the first time. Dragon Ball Z introduced this transformation in the Majin Buu Saga, where Goku takes on this form to distract the villain. While taking on this form gives the user a massive power boost, it also drains a lot of energy. However, Goku thought it’d be the best way to stall Buu long enough for Trunks to find the Dragon Radar. Goku achieved his transformation during his extensive training in the afterlife.

However, Dragon Ball Z never gave Vegeta that phenomenal form. The story continued later on in Dragon Ball Super, which included Super Saiyan Blue and Ultra Instinct, making SSJ3 a thing of the past. Compared to Goku, who didn’t have any limitations for the past seven years in the afterlife, Vegeta just couldn’t reach that level in DBZ. However, he must have secretly trained again, considering how in Dragon Ball Daima, he uses this form to fight against Tamagami Number 2.

Toei Animation

Funnily enough, he refuses to call it Super Saiyan 3. In the heat of the moment, Vegeta names this form “Ultra Vegeta 1.” This isn’t the first time he strayed away from the naming nom. In Dragon Ball Z, Vegeta named his Super Saiyan 2 form “Super Vegeta.” However, naming SSJ3 “Ultra Vegeta 1” could be related to his son, Trunks.

In DBZ, Trunks said SSJ3 is like an “Ultra Super Saiyan.” This adorable similarity shows how the father and son duo are similar in Dragon Ball Daima. Despite having seemingly different personalities, the show often includes subtle proofs of how these two indeed share the same blood. Outwardly, Trunks is more similar to his mother, Bulma. They both are kinder and strategic as compared to the brash and aggressive Vegeta. However, beneath the surface, it becomes more apparent that they are two sides of the same coin.

Akira Toriyama’s last project, Dragon Ball Daima, officially reached its conclusion on the same time as the author’s first death anniversary. From writing an original story to creating the character design, Toriyama was a major part of the show and supervised everything during the production. Although Executive Director Akio Ino said it was a coincidence, Dragon Ball Daima’s release in the same year as the manga’s 40th anniversary gathered a lot of attention. The story takes place in the Demon Realm, where Goku and his friends arrive in hopes of obtaining the dragon balls and getting back to their normal age.

However, for the majority of the series, the struggle revolves around the position of the Demon King. After Dabura’s death during the Majin Buu Saga, Gomah takes over as the new king. Still, Supreme Kai’s siblings, Degesu and Arinsu, are also after that role. The Demon Realm is vast, and it’s not surprising others would want to reign over the land. With Gomah’s defeat in the Dragon Ball Daima finale, the Demon Realm got a new king, and he’s one of the series’ most underrated characters, Majin Kuu, who may be perfect for the role.

Majin Kuu Becomes the New Demon King in Dragon Ball Daima

Majin Kuu is an underrated character in the show, created by the witch Marba under the direction of Dr. Arinsu. Marba is the same witch who successfully created Majin Buu. Majin Kuu is a fusion of a Saibaman seed and the essence of Majin Buu, resulting in a being that embodies traits from both species. However, although he is quite strong, he is unable to defeat the Tamagami, leading Arinsu to request Marba to create another Majin instead.

Even so, Kuu has proven to be useful to her on multiple occasions, especially with the second test given by the Tamagami of the first Demon World. Instead of insane offensive and defensive powers, Majin Kuu exhibits superhuman intelligence, capable of rapid learning and quick comprehension of complex information. In the finale, while Goku is fighting Gomah, Kuu smacks the villain on his head, leading to the third eye coming loose.

Dragon Ball Daima Majin Kuu Arinsu
Toei Animation

This ultimately resulted in Gomah’s defeat, making Kuu the victor of the battle. Also, there’s a rule that the one who defeats the Demon King will become the new ruler. Kuu wins by pure luck, but it turns out well. The elder Namek, Neva realizes that Kuu will make a great king, unlike his predecessor. Kuu also asks Arinsu to help him make the Demon Realm a scary but good place to live. He even declares her the Vice-Supreme Demon King.

Draon Ball Daima has highlighted the poor state of the world on multiple occasions, but that’s about to change with a new benevolent king. With a new and trustworthy leader and capable allies on his side, tyranny has ended in the Demon Realm. It will take a while to improve the living conditions of the citizens, end discrimination, etc., but Kuu has set his mind on it. The series ends on a happy note, with Goku and his friends turning back to normal and returning to their homes.

Dragon Ball Daima Goku Kamehameha

Akira Toriyama’s last project, Dragon Ball Daima, concluded at the same time as his first death anniversary. Daima aired in the same year as the franchise’s 40th anniversary, winning the hearts of fans worldwide. The new adventure brings Goku and his friends to the Demon World, where they try to gather the dragon balls and get back to normal. However, as if navigating through an unknown world wasn’t difficult enough, they are turned into children, making them less powerful than before. The anime ends on a happy note, turning Goku and the others back to their normal age and changing the status quo of the Demon World.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for the Dragon Ball Daima Finale!

King Gomah is the main antagonist of the show, and the anime concludes with his defeat. Majin Kuu becomes the new Demon King, promising to make the Demon World a scary yet good place to live in. He makes Arinsu the Vice Supreme Demon King and asks her for help to fulfill his goal. Goku and his friends head back to Earth as the Demon World tries to settle in with the change in monarchy. Additionally, the anime also featured Goku’s Super Saiyan 4, which is slightly different from Dragon Ball GT. The transformation unpacks some serious power, as displayed in Goku’s powerful Kamehameha.

Goku’s Kamehameha Is a Callback to King Piccolo’s Defeat in Dragon Ball

King Piccolo, also known as the Great Demon King, was a major antagonist in the original Dragon Ball series. Goku defeated the villain with one of his most iconic moves—the Reverse Kamehameha-propelled aerial attack punching a clean hole through the demon king. Before dying, King Piccolo spat out an egg, ensuring his reincarnation as Piccolo Jr. However, the Namek would later become Goku’s rival and ally in Dragon Ball Z. In Daima, Goku used his Ultra Kamehameha to punch a hole through Gomah’s chest, even tearing rifts through to each of the other worlds in the Demon Realm.

Dragon Ball Daima Gomah
Toei Animation

While the new attack is incredibly powerful, it still reminds us of how the young fighter defeated the “other” Demon King. Whether it’s villains or heroes, characters getting punched a hole is common in Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball fights, especially in Z and beyond, emphasize over-the-top powers. A simple punch is never enough, so the characters need to suffer devastating injuries to highlight how powerful their opponents are. A hole through the chest is one of the most brutal wounds, often meant to convey their fatal implications.

In Dragon Ball Z, Goku held Raditz in place while Piccolo used a Full-Nelson Special Beam Cannon to kill both of them in one shot. Meanwhile, this attack also gave Piccolo a chance to shine in the Dragon Ball Daima finale’s battle. Although Piccolo didn’t get much limelight throughout the series, he was quick to act after seeing Gomah getting injured. The only way to take out the third eye is by striking the back of his head three times. Piccolo struck Gomah twice but, unfortunately, failed in his third attempt. Gomah was able to regenerate after the second strike, which made things difficult. Majin Kuu later got an opening to get the job done.

Dragon Ball Daima has wrapped and with its grand finale, shonen fans are left with mulling over one of the final works of Akira Toriyama. The anime series did throw some major curveballs at fans as many were not expecting Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta to make an appearance, let alone a Super Saiyan 4 Goku. This legendary anime form first appeared in Dragon Ball GT and most Z-Fighter fans believed that it would never make its way to the canon universe. Unfortunately, the fourth Super Saiyan level had one major caveat in its origin story, or perhaps lack thereof.

If you weren’t aware of Super Saiyan 4’s origin in Dragon Ball Daima, the finale reveals that Goku was able to achieve the level through off-screen training. While he first debuted the transformation as a child in the fight against Gomah thanks to Neva the Namekian, Goku apparently already knew he had the power within him the whole time. Son just needed a little push when it came to making sure he could access it in his “mini” body and the elder Namekian was more than happy to oblige. This new origin raises quite a few questions and ultimately falls flat when it comes to the form’s potential.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan Misfire

Goku learning a new form off-camera is nothing new for the Dragon Ball series, as past examples have included Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan Blue. For Super Saiyan 4 however, it feels like a giant missed opportunity for what could have been a major story beat in Daima. Son achieving this form via training simply leads to so many questions and seeing him achieve it, even via a flashback, would have helped to give anime fans a major scene.

Some of Dragon Ball’s best moments have come from new transformations making their debut. Goku achieving Super Saiyan thanks to Krillin’s death was an emotional gut punch, with the same perhaps being far more true for Gohan reaching Super Saiyan 2 while fighting Cell. Here, the transformation holds little emotion behind its origin, seeming almost like a throwaway concept that might be good “fan service” but fails to truly give an emotional impact.

Super Saiyan 4 Leads To Many Questions

For some time, Dragon Ball Daima has been touted as being a part of the overall main storyline, taking place before the events of Dragon Ball Super. Since this is the case, Goku’s refusal to ever use Super Saiyan 4 when fighting leads to continuity issues, especially when he initially fought Beerus. Of course, at the time of Super’s creation, they didn’t know that Super Saiyan 4 would be introduced to the main universe, but the frustration remains. Super Saiyan 4’s absence could have had an easy enough workaround in that perhaps the fourth level could only be used in the Demon Realm or could only be used in the proximity of Neva or even that the Z-Fighters’ memories could have been wiped. It’s a missed opportunity for sure and it helps to make the legendary form feel far more surface-level than it should.

Comparing this new origin to Dragon Ball GT’s debut makes it all the more shaky in the present, as the Grand Tour, despite its flaws, did introduce Super Saiyan 4 quite well. Kid Goku transforming into a giant golden oozaru, only to be brought back from the brink by Pan and achieving this new level felt earned, especially in the face of the villainous Baby. On the flip side, Vegeta taking a “shortcut” to do the same worked well for the character, showing how the Saiyan Prince was more than willing to take an “easy route” if it meant narrowing the gap between him and his eternal rival. Of course, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was the icing on the cake in this sequel series.

We don’t know if Super Saiyan 4 will make a comeback in Dragon Ball Super, since the manga is already planning a comeback but we hope that the printed story, and perhaps eventual anime, are able to learn from Daima and mend some fences. Dragon Ball might have its fair share of amazing battles and dazzling transformations, but all those hit that much harder if they have an emotional impact backing them up.

Dragon Ball Daima Finale

Dragon Ball Daima is the final work of Akira Toriyama, one of the greatest mangakas of all time. Released in the same year as Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary and concluded around the same time as Toriyama’s first death anniversary, the anime touched the hearts of many. The story takes place one year after the Majin Buu Saga, as Goku and his friends live their normal day-to-day lives, unaware of the trouble looming over their heads. Far away in the Demon World, Dabura’s successor, King Gomah, is astonished by the unparalleled power that Goku and his friends possess.

Thanks to Degesu’s help, Gomah successfully turned them into children using Earth’s dragon balls. Hence, Goku and the others head to the Demon World on a new adventure. As the story continues, we learn more about Demon World and the problem faced by the people due to incapable rulers. Luckily, King Gomah’s defeat results in Majin Kuu taking over as the new ruler. Neva states that Kuu becoming the new Demon King may be a good thing. The story ends with Goku and his friends heading back to Earth while Kuu, Arinsu, and the others strive to make the Demon World a better place.

Dragon Ball Daima Exec Claimed the Episode Titles Have a Special Message

During the New Year’s “All Night Nippon – Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Special,” Dragon Ball Daima’s Executive Producer, Akio Iyoku, talked about the series. The 20-minute long show was shared on Radiko’s official website. Since the original version is in Japanese,  @peraperayume on X translated and shared some important bits from it. The producer reveals that the episode titles have some kind of meaning, which will be revealed after the season ends. Iyoku refused to go into the details since it was supposed to be an important part of the show.

@Herms98 shared on X, “Each Daima episode title is a single Japanese word with one katakana letter in red. The Executive Producer of the show, Akio Iyoku, hints that these have some meaning but can’t say more yet. The red letters so far: ボグダべジヅビガゾバデヂズ (bo gu da be ji zu bi ga zo ba de ji zu).”

Toei Animation

The user also claims that the letters don’t form a proper message yet, and it might make sense once all the episodes are out. The letters form a pattern, and probably a Japanese native speaker can figure out the secret message. However, since the series is globally available, a majority of the fans don’t know what message Iyoku talked about. The anime also has reached its conclusion, and it’s unclear if there will ever be a revelation about it.

It’s possible that Iyoku might reveal it in another interview, or a fan will try to decipher it later. Even though we didn’t find out the answer to this mystery, the anime had one of the most heartwarming endings ever. Dragon Ball Daima ends with a post-credit scene, leaving room for the story’s continuation, but that doesn’t seem likely yet.

The Prince of All Saiyans did what many anime fans thought would be impossible in Dragon Ball Daima when he unveiled his Super Saiyan 3 transformation. In taking on one of the Demon Realm’s Tamagami, Vegeta revealed that he had attained the form following the fight against Majin Buu thanks to some serious training. With the former villain using the power against Gomah, the Dragon Ball Daima finale doesn’t feature the Saiyan Prince using Super Saiyan 3 but it does see Vegeta giving it a hilarious new name perfect for the anime royalty.

Warning. If you have yet to watch Dragon Ball Daima’s series finale, be forewarned that we’ll be diving into serious spoiler territory. Thanks to Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 and a last-minute assist from Majin Kuu, Gomah is defeated and loses the power of the Evil Third Eye. In picking up the pieces from the Demon Realm adventure, Kuu is made the new king and the Z-Fighters are able to return to their world. Before leaving the underworld locale, Vegeta and Goku butt heads in a hilarious fashion wherein the former is able to rename Super Saiyan 3 in a way that only the Saiyan Prince could.

Super Saiyan Bargain Sale

After the two pure-blooded Saiyans argue over Goku keeping Super Saiyan 4 a secret, Son admonishes Vegeta for using Super Saiyan 3 in a similar fashion. Not thrilled with how Goku describes the transformation, Vegeta claims that it should be dubbed “Ultra Vegeta 1,” giving it a title that no anime fan would have thought of. Not that Vegeta has used the power of Super Saiyan 3 in Dragon Ball Daima, it will be interesting to see if he employs the form in Dragon Ball Super’s future.

Of course, “Ultra Vegeta 1” isn’t the only time that the Saiyan Prince has gone “Ultra.” During Dragon Ball Super’s Granolah The Survivor Arc, Vegeta manages to discover a new transformation thanks to training with Beerus the God of Destruction. Dubbed “Ultra Ego,” the form gives Vegeta purple hair and a visage that makes him look somewhat like his Super Saiyan 3 aesthetic. Despite appearing in the manga, Ultra Ego has yet to be animated so shonen fans are still waiting to see Vegeta’s ultimate form arrive on the small screen.

Where Will “Ultra Vegeta 1” Return?

While the shonen manga and its anime adaptation don’t have plans to focus on Vegeta’s Super Saiyan 3 transformation, gamers will have the chance to jump into this form in the near future. Vegeta’s latest form is coming to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, which shonen fans might be surprised to see considering the game was initially released in 2017. Despite almost being ten years old, the action-rpg still has plenty of gas in the tank.

Dragon Ball Daima concludes the story with King Gomah’s defeat. He is the main antagonist of the series and the new Demon King after Dabura’s death in the Majin Buu Saga. Gomah saw the unimaginable powers that Goku and his friends held and was afraid they would target the Demon Realm. Under Degesu’s brainwashing, he decided to turn them into children using Earth’s dragon balls. Gomah even kidnapped Dende, who had turned into a baby because of his wish.

Hence, Goku and the others arrive in the Demon World to set things right. During the final stretch of the anime, we find out that the previous Demon Kings had a third eye, which granted them unparalleled strength. It was lost before Dabura became the ruler, as no one was aware it was attached to Hybis’ belt. As expected, Gomah gained enormous strength after acquiring it, and the only way to defeat him was to strike him on the back of his head three times. During the fight, Neva helped Goku transform into Super Saiyan 4.

Goku Fires an Ultra Kamehameha in Dragon Ball Daima Finale

Goku turns into Super Saiyan 4, confirming that this form from GT is now canon. This form is slightly different than GT, where the characters had black hair instead of red like in Daima. After a brief setback during his fight with Gomah, Goku returns more powerful than ever. Kamehameha is still his most iconic attack, but he takes it up a notch in the finale. In a visually stunning sequence, Goku uses a 10x Kamehameha, going ultra with the attack and punching a massive hole in Gomah. The villain, despite being full strength, was unable to stop this deadly blow.

Dragon Ball Daima Gomah

However, the wave doesn’t stop after piercing through Gomah. Instead, it shoots past the villain, shattering the barriers separating the three Demon Realms. First, we see it emerging from the ocean in the Second Demon Realm as Tamagami Number Two witnesses it. The attack then continues its relentless path, eventually breaching the Third Demon Realm, where Tamagami Number Three watches it. It’s also worth mentioning that this is Goku’s first time tearing through several dimensions.

Unfortunately, because he still had his third eye, Gomah regenerated quickly. There couldn’t have been a better attack to conclude Toriyama’s final work than Kamehameha. Fans have seen many variations of this attack over the years, but this may be the best one yet, thanks to Toei’s gorgeous animation.

Toei Animation

Goku’s Kamehameha Is Still Shonen’s Most Iconic Attack

Kamehameha was first introduced in 1986. Shortly after, Goku learned this move, and it became his signature attack. Its iconic status comes from its decades of build-up, with Goku cupping his hands, the dramatic chanting, and unleashing a powerful energy wave. The move has evolved over time, with variations like the Super Kamehameha, Instant Transmission Kamehameha, and Ultra Instinct Kamehameha, each used in battles.

Goku has used this attack in several legendary moments, including during his fights against Vegeta, Cell, Majin Buu, and so on. These moments symbolize Goku’s perseverance and growth. Kamehameha isn’t just a powerful attack—it’s a symbol of determination and Goku’s never-give-up spirit, making it one of the most popular techniques in anime history.

Dragon Ball Daima’s grand finale had quite a few surprises. The origin of Super Saiyan 4 was explained, a new Demon King was crowned, and the Z-Fighters finally bid a fond farewell to the Demon Realm. Of course, one major question that many shonen fans had when it came to the twentieth episode of the series. The Join Bugs were introduced earlier in the series as a way for characters to potentially fuse without performing the fusion dance or wearing the Potarra earrings but was the series finale able to incorporate the insects into its story?

Warning. If you have yet to watch Dragon Ball Daima’s series finale, be forewarned that we’ll be diving into major spoiler territory. In this recent episode, anime fans learn that Goku was able to achieve Super Saiyan 4 through training. They learned that Majin Kuu was the new ruler of the Demon Realm after Gomah was defeated. What anime fans didn’t get to see was a fusion that saw any of the Z-Fighters chomping down on Join Bugs to do so. This makes for quite a disappointment as the insects had been touted as a new method for characters to become one, leaving many wondering if this would give us a new Goku/Vegeta fusion or even see classic characters forging new fusions. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as no new fusions arrived in episode twenty.

Toei Animation

[RELATED: Dragon Ball Daima Has a Post-Credits Scene (And It’s a Can’t Miss)]

Will Join Bugs Ever Be Used?

Daima might have ended, but Toei Animation has confirmed in the past that this series is meant to be canon in relation to the overall timeline. With Dragon Ball already hinting at the idea that it will be telling new stories for decades to come, it is entirely possible that both the Demon Realm and the insects that are a part of it, will make an appearance in the future. At present, Dragon Ball Super’s manga has yet to confirm what it has in store for the future but elements from this recent anime could certainly play a part if Toyotaro feels like adding it in.

What makes no Join Bugs being used in the series is how intricate the explanation was for what they did. Rightfully so, many viewers felt like it was only a matter of time until two of the Z-Fighters chomped down on the insects. It was not meant to be and we weren’t able to see any Demon Realm fusions take place.

Of course, the lack of Join Bugs wasn’t the only big disappointment for fans, as Super Saiyan 4’s origin story might have failed to stick the landing. Rather than receiving the transformation from Neva, Goku reveals to Vegeta that he was able to achieve the form thanks to training following his fight against Majin Buu. While Son wasn’t sure if he could pull it off, he did just that while fighting against Gomah, with the elderly Namekian giving him a push to become a Super Saiyan 4 in his mini-body.

Dragon Ball Daima‘s final episode is here, bringing the latest anime entry in the shonen series to a close. The majority of the latest show in the Z-Fighter universe has focused on Goku and company’s journey in the Demon Realm, hoping to return to their previous adult forms after the Demon Lord Gomah wished them to be children. With the 20th episode, fans were able to see the full power of Super Saiyan 4, see the crowning of a new Demon Lord, and bid a fond farewell to one of the final projects from deceased creator Akira Toriyama.

As of the writing of this article, Dragon Ball’s future when it comes to the anime world is anyone’s guess. No second season has been confirmed for this latest series and Dragon Ball Super’s return has yet to be announced. While Super’s manga is planning to release new chapters in the future thanks to artist Toyotaro, there are quite a few questions surrounding the series at the moment.

Despite Season 2 not being confirmed, there is quite the stinger for Dragon Ball Daima displayed in its post-credits scene. Should the anime series be looking for new ground to cover, there are a few tidbits that could be further fleshed out thanks to the finale’s final moments. Of course, we’ll refrain from spoiling much from the finale but we have to imagine that fans have quite a few thoughts to share on the post-credits scene, Super Saiyan 4’s origin, and the new ruler of the Demon Realm.

Dragon Ball Daima has ended with its twentieth episode and fans are reeling from both some of the big developments and disappointments for the series finale. While it has yet to be seen if a second season will arrive, or if Dragon Ball Super’s anime might make a comeback, Daima will be discussed for quite some time. In a wild twist, not only does Dragon Ball Daima have a post-credits scene, it is one that absolutely needs to be seen by shonen fans before bidding a fond farewell to the Z-Fighters’ adventures within the Demon Realm.

Warning. If you have yet to watch Dragon Ball Daima’s final episode, be forewarned that we’ll be diving into serious spoiler territory. Now that Gomah has been defeated and trapped in a prison alongside Degesu, the Demon Realm has chosen its new lord. In a wild turnabout, Majin Kuu is now the new Demon Lord and is planning to rule in a much kinder fashion than his predecessors. With Goku and the Z-Fighters turning down the opportunity to make a home for themselves in the supernatural locale, they decide to make a stop at a familiar Demon Realm retailer before returning to Earth.

Toei Animation

Daima’s Post-Credits Scene

Returning to the shop that sold the child-sized Z-Fighter the Medi-Bugs, Goku aims to add more of the insects to his collection as the anime heroes will routinely find themselves running out of Senzu Beans. In Bulma’s favor, she even discovers a kind of bug that is devoted strictly to beauty, looking to buy as many as she can before returning to Earth. Of course, the bugs are far from the only surprise that the shonen protagonists find while perusing the shop.

In a major twist of fate, the cast discovers that the store has multiple “Evil Third Eyes” and that they all have the same abilities as the one that Gomah slapped onto his forehead. Should Dragon Ball Daima actually receive a second season, we would imagine that this fact would play a major role. With Gomah no longer a problem for the Demon Realm, it would be interesting to see if any other new threats would come for the monster-filled locale.

Dragon Ball’s Future

Many anime fans were wondering if Dragon Ball Daima’s finale would reveal either that a second season was in development and/or that Dragon Ball Super would return. Unfortunately, as of the writing of this article, it seems that neither piece of news has been confirmed. Luckily, a producer on the anime franchise has stated that Shueisha and Toei Animation plan on telling new stories for decades but we might have to wait to see what said stories will turn out to be.

This finale brings about the end of one of Akira Toriyama’s final works, airing on the anniversary of his passing in Japan. At present, it has yet to be seen whether Dragon Ball Daima is the final project that Toriyama was involved in but it still made for a fitting tribute to the mangaka when all is said and done.

Since Son Goku unleashed the power of Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball Daima, many shonen fans have been wondering where it comes from. Was this a power that Neva The Namekian only had access to? Was Goku able to tap into his Saiyan ancestry to achieve the form? Why wasn’t it featured in Dragon Ball Super if Daima is canon? The mystery of where “SSJ4” comes from has been revealed in the twentieth episode of the new anime and fans might not be too thrilled to learn just how Goku managed to achieve the form that first made its appearance in Dragon Ball GT.

Warning. If you don’t want to be spoiled on Dragon Ball Daima’s final episode, which has already aired in Japan, be forewarned that we’ll be dropping massive spoilers. When Neva was able to place his hand over Mini-Goku, many anime fans believed that the Namekian gave the Z-Fighter the power of Super Saiyan 4. In a wild twist, Goku confirms in the series finale that he had always had the power to transform into this state, thanks to training in the background following the fight against Majin Buu. What Neva did was awaken his ability to use the form in his child-like body, helping him to stand a chance against Gomah the Demon Lord. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see how the fan community responds to this reveal.

Toei Animation

A Super Saiyan Blunder?

Unfortunately, the Super Saiyan 4 origin does line up with several other transformations from the shonen series. Super Saiyan 3 was explained in a similar fashion, as Goku used training in the afterlife to achieve the form against Majin Buu. On a similar wavelength, Goku and Vegeta achieved Super Saiyan Blue by training with Beerus and Whis in Dragon Ball Super, not needing the death of Krillin or Android 16 to help them achieve greatness.

While this origin might be a disappointment to many, Goku did put the transformation to good use in the series finale. Super Saiyan 4 aided the Z-Fighters in defeating Gomah, blowing a hole in his chest and giving Majin Kuu the opportunity to knock the Evil Third Eye off his forehead. With Gomah now defeated, Kuu has become the new king of the Demon Realm in quite the twist, looking to bring about a new age of prosperity as the Z-Fighters depart.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Saiyan 4?

The question now remains, if Goku could always go Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball Daima, why did he never do so in Dragon Ball Super? It’s understandable that transformations like Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue, and Ultra Instinct are stronger but in his initial confrontation with Beerus, he states that Super Saiyan 3 was the highest that he could go transformation-wise. It is entirely possible, with artist Toyotaro looking to continue the manga following Akira Toriyama’s passing, that Goku could unleash the form in Dragon Ball Super’s future but this big reveal will leave many scratching their heads.

Ultimately, deciding to make it so that Goku learned Super Saiyan 4 off-screen will be a bitter pill to swallow for many fans. Dragon Ball GT saw Son achieve the level in the fight against Baby thanks to connecting with his Saiyan lineage and receiving a boost from his granddaughter Pan, while Vegeta found a workaround thanks to help from Bulma. Throughout Daima’s run, the anime has been listed as “canon”, taking place between the death of Kid Buu and before Beerus arrived on Earth, though now, that fact will be questioned quite often.

Despite the fact that Dragon Ball fans might be disappointed with this explanation, Daima was still one of the final works from creator Akira Toriyama, adding quite a bit to the Z-Fighter lore. The finale itself aired on the anniversary of the manga artist’s passing, working to honor Toriyama once again for his contribution to the world. Fingers crossed that elements from Daima will be a part of the series’ future moving forward.

Dragon Ball Daima has one episode left in the chamber before it brings its first season to a close. With the grand finale listed to have a runtime similar to that of the anime’s previous episodes, there’s a lot of ground to cover before Goku and his friends exit the Demon Realm. As shonen fans prepare to wave goodbye to the latest anime featuring the Z-Fighters, there are a few major questions that we are hoping to see revealed in one of the final projects from creator Akira Toriyama. As the clock winds down, we’re more than happy to share what elements we hope to see revealed in the finale that is hours away.

Dragon Ball Daima’s twentieth episode will arrive tomorrow, February 28th, on both Crunchyroll and Hulu. When last we left the series, Goku had once again tapped into the power of Super Saiyan 4, albeit as a full-grown adult this time around. While the Demon Lord Gomah has been mostly a joke throughout the series, his acquisition of the Evil Third Eye has made him anything but, managing to defeat Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta. With little time to spare, it will be interesting to see what tricks Goku pulls out of his sleeve to take down the larger-than-life villain.

Toei Animation

Where is Gohan?

Toei Animation

Perhaps one of the biggest characters that has been completely absent from Dragon Ball Daima is Gohan. While he was originally touted that Goku’s son had his head buried in books as he continued his studies, anime fans haven’t had the chance to see him once as a kid or as an adult in the series. Since the series takes place before Beerus and Whis meet the Z-Fighters to kick off Dragon Ball Super, it was unlikely that we’d see Gohan transform into Gohan Beast but even getting one glimpse at the powerful scholar would have gone a long way for fans.

What Does Neva Really Want?

Toei Animation

Neva The Namekian first seemed like he might just become the big bad of Dragon Ball Daima but has since travelled alongside the Z-Fighters and even given Goku his Super Saiyan 4 transformation. While he might not stand toe-to-toe with Piccolo in the sheer strength department, the sheer amount of abilities he has demonstrated make him one of the most interesting new characters. It’s entirely possible that Neva has just been looking to add some spice to his life in his elder years but getting a rundown of his ultimate goal would go a long way. However, speaking of Super Saiyan 4…

What is Super Saiyan 4 in Daima?

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball fans clearly know what Super Saiyan 4 is thanks to its initial appearance in Dragon Ball GT and its subsequent return in Dragon Ball Heroes and countless video games but Daima has yet to give this transformation an explanation. How on Earth was Neva able to bring this power out of Goku when all is said and done? Is this a form that can only be accessed in the Demon Realm and/or only when Saiyans are around the Namekian? It wouldn’t take a lot to explain just where this form came from though we’re a little worried that it won’t get the explanation that many fans were hoping for.

Where Was All This In Dragon Ball Super?

Toei Animation

It’s understandable that the Demon Realm wouldn’t make an appearance in Dragon Ball Super, considering Akira Toriyama seemingly thought of the idea long after the introduction of Super Saiyan God and Ultra Instinct, but there are some hanging questions regarding the sequel series. If Vegeta could transform into a Super Saiyan 3 this entire time, why didn’t he use said power against Beerus the first time he encountered the God of Destruction? Why didn’t Goku ever attempt to use the power of Super Saiyan 4? What has the Demon Realm been up to during the events of Super? There are quite a few head-scratchers when it comes to Daima’s finale with regard to Dragon Ball Super specifically.

What Will Become of The Demon Realm?

Toei Animation

While the Z-Fighters might not ultimately take Gomah’s life, leaving him in charge of the Demon Realm would be a disaster. Should Goku be able to defeat the villain, who will ultimately step up to the plate to take on the responsibilities of ruling the underworld? So far, we have candidates like Glorio, Dr. Anisu, Neva, and maybe even Pixie’s father to take the throne but there haven’t been many hints as to where the Demon Realm would go in the future. Could a new golden age for the Demon Realm be a part of Daima’s finale?

Will There Be A Daima Season 2?

Toei Animation

When Dragon Ball Daima first premiered, it wasn’t billed as simply being a “one and done” series. It is entirely possible that the series could continue with a second season, perhaps further exploring the Demon Realm in the time before Dragon Ball Super first began. Of course, shonen fans are also crossing their fingers that the anime might surprise viewers by finally confirming that Dragon Ball Super’s television series will return. Since 2017 brought the Tournament of Power to an end, it’s been some time since we’ve seen Super air on the small screen. The manga has two major storylines that could potentially give viewers several new seasons, thanks to the Moro and Granolah Arcs, so fingers crossed that Daima might have a surprise for shonen fans.

Dragon Ball Daima is now gearing up for the premiere of its final episode, and the anime is helping to clear things up by revealing the official name for Gomah’s final form. Dragon Ball Daima kicked off its run by fully introducing the Demon Realm to the franchise after years of it being teased by multiple characters’ origins. It was revealed that following Dabura’s death during the Majin Buu arc, a new demon named Gomah took his place as the Supreme Demon King of the Demon Realm. And with the Dragon Balls, Gomah was able to enact his grand plan against Goku and the others.

Part of Gomah’s plan from the beginning of the series was to use Earth’s Dragon Balls to turn Goku and the others into children, and use one of the wishes to get a hold of the Tertian Oculus. This was a legendary item that powered up any Demon King that used it in the past, and that turned out to be the case when he finally got a hold of it in the anime’s climax. Now that Dragon Ball Daima is nearing the premiere of its final episode, it turns out the official name for this giant sized Gomah is “Giant Gomah” as revealed through some merchandise (spotted by @Herms98 on X).

https://twitter.com/Herms98/status/1893831030064263583

Dragon Ball Reveals Gomah’s Final Form

“Giant Gomah” might not be the most creative name for Gomah’s new Evil Third Eye infused form (which also has been referred to as “Third Eye Gomah” in some of the promotional materials), but that’s sort of par for the course with Gomah overall. He didn’t immediately seem like much of a threat when compared to the other foes that Goku and the others had faced off against thus far, but getting the Tertian Oculus was the one buff he needed to really present a challenge against the Z-Fighters for the first time in the new anime.

The Tertian Oculus has been proven to be just as strong as it had been teased with Dragon Ball Daima. It boosted Gomah’s magic to the point where he became massive in size, but also quickly recovered from all of the damage he had taken through the fight thus far. After every attack, it was like he was completely rebooted as a sort of shell broke off of him to heal him and bring him back to the fight. Coupled with all of his powerful magic on top of it, and Giant Gomah became a bonafide threat.

Toei Animation

What’s Next for Gomah in Dragon Ball Daima?

Dragon Ball Daima is likely going to have Goku completely deal with Gomah as the new anime comes to an end, but his fate is hard to predict. It doesn’t seem heading into the final episode that the Demon King will be wiped out completely as the way to defeat him is dislodging the Third Eye from his forehead. Given that he’s not much of a threat without the extra power, the fight will likely end there without Goku and the others needing to completely eliminate him.

The loss to Goku and the others will likely be enough to take him off the board, and he might even lose his position as king when the anime ends. This will likely be why fans never see him mentioned in Dragon Ball Super‘s future events as without the eye he’s not much of a threat at all. Now it’s just a matter of finding out how he’s going to be dealt with. Death probably won’t be the answer here.

Dragon Ball Daima surprised fans with the debut of Vegeta’s own Super Saiyan 3 form, but the penultimate episode of the series offers a great reason why fans have never seen him use this form in future fights seen in Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball Daima is in an odd predicament for the Dragon Ball timeline as it takes place not long after the events of the Majin Buu arc, but before Beerus and Whis’ arrival in the Battle of Gods arc. This meant that anything that happens in this anime would likely not have too much of an impact on what is supposed to happen later.

Dragon Ball Daima has been able to skirt this issue, however, by filling in some of the gaps that fans had been wondering about. Because while it had seemed like Vegeta had simply skipped over training for Super Saiyan 3 and instead starting to pursue the new god forms seen in Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball Daima confirmed that he had secretly been able to use this form all along. The anime also provides an explanation of why we don’t really see him use it too as it’s clearly not worth the effort in the fight against Gomah. It’s just too inefficient of a form.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan 3 Is More Cool Than Useful

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 19 reveals that Glorio’s wish on the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls was to turn Goku and the others back into adults. With Vegeta taking the next phase of the fight against Gomah, fans also got to see the full unleashing of his Super Saiyan 3 form. While it’s clear that this form has a lot of destructive power and he’s pretty easily fighting back against Gomah, it’s also made clear that this form is a lot more of a visual feast for fans that a truly functional form for the Saiyans themselves. It’s the same issue Goku had with the transformation.

Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta has a lot of power, but it’s not a form that he can sustain for long as it drains more of his stamina than the other transformations. It’s why Vegeta ultimately defaults to using Super Saiyan 2 in future fights as Super Saiyan 3 really isn’t too practical for a real fight. Couple this with the fact that the giant Gomah was able to really ridicule him by grabbing him by the hair and tossing him around, and someone as prideful as Vegeta would likely never look at the transformation in the same way again. It’s why he never became “Super Vegeta” again after the Cell arc either. It’s just not useful.

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball Continues to Prove Why Vegeta Is Smart

This is a great example of Dragon Ball‘s ability to expand on Vegeta’s transformations, but also help to expand on the greater canon. Now that it’s been revealed that Vegeta has been able to use Super Saiyan 3 this entire time but just chooses not to use it, it’s a better look for the Saiyan overall. It’s not that he was unable to keep up with Goku’s unique transformations (which is even more complicated now with the debut of Super Saiyan 4), it’s just that Vegeta wanted to fight in a much smarter way.

After seeing how inefficient the ability was, and how big of a weakness all that extra hair ended up being against a foe, Vegeta decided to take on other transformations instead. It’s a further driving point of how different of a fighter he is from Goku. He values different things when it comes to combat, and it’s why he eventually goes off to get his own unique kinds of transformations later in Dragon Ball Super.

Dragon Ball Super has released the 104th chapter of its manga, finally bringing back the shonen sequel after a months-long hiatus following creator Akira Toriyama’s passing. The recent chapter takes a break from opponents like Black Frieza to instead focus on a more light-hearted story involving Goten and Trunks. In the story, we finally bare witness to how Saiyaman X-1 and X-2 came to exist and what was the spark that made the sons of Goku and Vegeta decide to throw on costumes and pick up the mantle from Gohan.

Warning. If you have yet to read the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super, Chapter 104, be forewarned that we’ll be diving into serious spoiler territory. Since the very start, Goten was very much on-board with the idea that superheroes should exist to help patrol the world from nefarious threats. Falling in love with the fictional crime fighter known as “Clean God,” the youngest son of Goku and Chi-Chi tries to get his best friend Trunks on board but finds himself running out of luck. Vegeta and Bulma’s son isn’t too interested in Clean God’s antics but finds himself at the right place and the right time to learn about why being a costumed hero might be in the cards.

Shueisha

The Saiyamen Spring To Life

During the filming of the Clean God movie, Trunks encounters a band of thieves who are on the run for stealing a priceless museum artifact. Sporting the costumes of the villains from the film, the criminals attempt to take Trunks hostage to make a fast escape. Unfortunately for the robbers, they realize that they picked the wrong hostage as Vegeta’s son immediately lays one out using a well-placed elbow.

Deciding to jump into the fray and take down the thieves, Trunks is stopped by the actor portraying Clean God. As the mysterious actor explains, there’s a reason why vigilantes must sport masks, “Do you know why heroes wear masks? They are cool, yes, but that’s not the only reason. Heroes wear masks and keep their identities secret so that they can protect their loved ones from evil.” Seeing Clean God’s amazing moves on display, Trunk has a change of heart.

Clean God’s Cleanliness Spreads

The actor portraying Clean God was none other than Gohan, having taken on the role as a special favor to Mr. Satan. Gohan’s speech to Trunks makes all the more sense considering Goku’s eldest son has a long history in the superhero game. This brief encounter was one that changed Trunks’ mind and sent him on a brand new path that has been quite hilarious in Dragon Ball Super.

When Goten comes up with the idea of becoming costumed vigilantes, Trunks is now entirely on board, working to create costumes for the two hybrid Saiyans to sport in action. Debuting on the final page of the latest manga chapter, Saiyaman X-1 and X-2 are born and thus the Z-Fighters’ legacy with hilarious masked vigilantes continues. Whenever Dragon Ball Super’s manga does continue, it’s sure to have Goten and Trunks play a significant role if this recent installment is any indication.

Dragon Ball Daima is now gearing up for its final episode, but unfortunately a new update has revealed some bad news for hoping to see the anime go out on a bigger note than expected. Dragon Ball has gone all out in the past for the anime’s biggest moments. Dragon Ball Super had a few double episode premieres to highlight some of Goku’s biggest moments, and even Dragon Ball Daima kicked off its own run last Fall with a special extended premiere episode that was longer than the usual runtime. So fans had been hoping that it would be the same for the finale.

Dragon Ball Daima will be coming to an end with the premiere of Episode 20 later this week, so fans had been hoping that it could run a bit longer considering how much needs to get done in order to bring the new anime to a proper ending. But according to Fuji TV’s schedule for the broadcast (as spotted by @DbsHype on X), Dragon Ball Daima‘s final episode will feature the standard runtime as the other episodes. Which means that it will be 23 minutes in total including the opening and ending credits.

Toei Animation

Where to Watch Dragon Ball Daima Episode 20

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 20 is titled “Maximum” and is currently scheduled to make its debut on Friday, February 28th. When it releases, you’ll be able to stream the episode outside of Japan with Crunchyroll and Hulu (with Episode 20 then being available with Netflix a week after). As teased by the end of the penultimate episode, Goku has fully unleashed a new version of the Super Saiyan 4 form within the official Dragon Ball canon for the first real time in the franchise’s history. Now it’s just a matter of seeing this new form’s abilities in motion.

Supreme Demon King Gomah has been using the power of the Tertian Oculus to recover from everything that Goku and the others have done to him before, so now the trick is somehow removing the eye from his head. Thanks to Dr. Arinsu, Goku now knows the key is to distract Gomah long enough so that Piccolo can land three blows to the back of his head to dislodge the Eye Third Eye from Gomah’s clutches. With this, they will be able to end the fight once and for all after all this struggle.

Toei Animation

What’s After Dragon Ball Daima?

Dragon Ball Daima is the first new Dragon Ball TV anime that fans have gotten to see since Dragon Ball Super ended all those years ago, so it’s been a bit hard for fans to say goodbye given that there is no project on the horizon just yet. But Dragon Ball executive producer Akio Iyoku revealed that the team is looking ahead to future projects, “Producing anime and games takes time, but we’re steadily preparing for the future. We want to expand the franchise even further…There’s no doubt Dragon Ball will continue for decades to come.”

It’s been curious to see what could come next considering Dragon Ball Daima is slotted in between both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, and without series creator Akira Toriyama, that future is even more uncertain as fans will likely debate the nature of the franchise’s canon from here on out. But either way, it’s going to be a wild future to see develop if it means getting more successful anime releases like Dragon Ball Daima in the future. The wait begins now.

Dragon Ball Daima is fast approaching the premiere of its final episode, and the anime is helping fans catch up with everything that’s happened so far with a special recap trailer. Dragon Ball Daima has ended up being a much more explosive anime series than fans could have imagined when it kicked off its run last Fall. It started out with Goku and the others being turned into children as a result of a new wish on the Dragon Balls, and set out on a brand new adventure through the Demon Realm (a place only hinted at in previous anime and manga entries),

With the anime now getting ready to release its final episode, Toei Animation is helping fans catch up with the story so far in a special new recap video. This four minute video goes back to the beginning of the series to help give a refresher on everything that’s happened so far. It’s especially great for those looking for a quick way to catch up now that Goku’s unleashing Super Saiyan 4, and don’t have the time to see all the episodes in the coming week. Check out the Dragon Ball Daima recap in the video above.

Toei Animation

When Does Dragon Ball Daima End?

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 20 is titled “Maximum” and is currently scheduled to make its debut on Friday, February 28th. When it releases, you’ll be able to stream the episode outside of Japan with Crunchyroll and Hulu (with Episode 20 then being available with Netflix a week after). The English dub release for the anime is still really only taking off, so it has yet to reveal its own premiere date for the dubbed finale. Which means that fans watching that version will unfortunately be waiting for a while to see how it all ends.

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 20 will continue the fight between Super Saiyan 4 Goku and the Supreme Demon King Gomah. Goku and the others had been struggling against the demon for the past few episodes as the power of the Tertian Oculus has allowed him to quickly recover from all the damage done to him thus far. It wasn’t the case for Goku and the others, however, who are steadily losing their stamina the longer the fight continues. But thanks to Arinsu, now Goku has a plan to somehow end the fight and remove the Evil Third Eye from Gomah’s head.

Toei Animation

What’s Next for Dragon Ball?

With Dragon Ball Daima coming to an end, there’s a question about what could be coming next for the franchise. Dragon Ball has yet to announce any concrete plans for the anime’s future, but the franchise is steadily releasing new entries. Dragon Ball Super‘s manga recently returned from a near year long hiatus to release a brand new one-shot story, and those behind the scenes of the anime have revealed their intention to continue with new anime projects in the future even after Akira Toriyama’s tragic passing.

When asked about Dragon Ball’s anime future specifically, Dragon Ball executive producer Akio Iyoku revealed that the team is looking ahead to future projects, “Producing anime and games takes time, but we’re steadily preparing for the future. We want to expand the franchise even further…There’s no doubt Dragon Ball will continue for decades to come.” But as for what this future is going to look like, it’s very much uncertain. It might be best for now to just enjoy the ride while it lasts as Dragon Ball Daima gets ready for its ultimate climax.

Dragon Ball Daima is now at an end, so here is everything you need to know to be ready for the anime’s final episode. Although it wasn’t originally planned this way, Dragon Ball Daima ended up hitting screens as part of the celebration for Dragon Ball‘s 40th anniversary. The late Akira Toriyama’s original manga series has since spawned all sorts of anime releases over the decades, and fans have been bracing for the end of the latest new entry, Dragon Ball Daima. This was one of the final stories overseen by Toriyama himself, and it’s been packed to the brim with big surprises.

Dragon Ball Daima has surprised fans with each of its episodes since it debuted last Fall, and each reveal has come with some significant changes for how fans are supposed to see the Dragon Ball world as a whole. This has been especially true since the anime kicked off its climax with the final fight against Supreme Demon King Gomah, and now it’s planning to surpass all of those limits with the final episode coming in just a few more days. It’s time to get ready for Dragon Ball Daima‘s grand finale.

Toei Animation

When Does Dragon Ball Daima Episode 20 Come Out?

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 20 is titled “Maximum” and is currently scheduled to make its debut on Friday, February 28th. When it releases, you will be able to find the new episode streaming with Crunchyroll and Hulu (with it then releasing with Netflix a week later). As for the English dubbed release of the finale, it has yet to be officially announced when Dragon Ball Daima‘s dub finale will be streaming. When the dub finally catches up, it will be available exclusively with Crunchyroll for fans who have yet to see the final episode in action by that point (or just want to see the finale again in a whole new kind of way).

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 20 will be officially ending the fight against the Supreme Demon King Gomah, and will hopefully wrap up this new adventure through the Demon Realm in a satisfying fashion. There are still a few things the series needs to address about those in the Demon Realm before it can end, and because it’s set before the events of Battle of Gods, we won’t be seeing any of these new characters in a new project for quite some time. So this is really going to be it in many ways.

Toei Animation

How Will Dragon Ball Daima End?

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 19 came with two big surprises. The first of which was Glorio using the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls to turn Goku and the others back into adults. The second of which was seeing the brand new forms for this anime used in their full adult potential. Dragon Ball Daima‘s penultimate episode not only unleashed Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta in full, but also made the full debut of Goku’s new Super Saiyan 4 form as well. Because while both of them had used these forms before to great buzz among the fans, it wasn’t until this episode that fans got to see the true scope of both of these forms.

It’s why the excitement is through the roof for this finale as we’re about to see an adult Super Saiyan 4 Goku in action in the actual Dragon Ball canon for the first time. Previously exclusive to Dragon Ball GT and other non-canon releases, this new version of the form has been overseen by Akira Toriyama and can now be slotted within the official timeline. With this anime ending its adventures before Goku and Vegeta start exploring godhood in the Battle of Gods arc and everything that happens in Dragon Ball Super to follow, this is really only the first stepping stone for the kinds of power levels fans have been seeing for years.

What are you hoping to see in Dragon Ball Daima‘s final episode? How have you liked the new Dragon Ball anime series overall? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments!

Dragon Ball Super has never really treated Goku like a traditional hero when compared to some of Shueisha’s other releases, and the newest chapter of the series has proved why he’s not seen that way with the reveal of how the world sees Goku after everything he’s done. Dragon Ball Super had gone on a nearly year long hiatus following the tragic passing of franchise creator Akira Toriyama last year, but came back this month with its first new entry since. This new chapter fills in more of the gaps from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc, and brings with it more canonical reveals than expected.

Dragon Ball Super has returned with a brand new one-shot story taking place before the manga’s adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc as it reveals how Trunks and Goten were ultimately inspired to become the masked superheroes that they were seen as during the manga’s prologue to the Super Hero arc. With this expanded look at the prequel, fans also get to see more of how the world sees its own heroes like Mr. Satan and even Goku. But in Goku’s case, he’s not very well remembered at all.

Shueisha

Goku Isn’t Remembered After Majin Buu Saga

The events of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104 are a brand new one-shot taking place before the manga’s own prologue for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Showcasing more of Goten and Trunks’ high school, fans also get a much better look at how close the series is now to the End of Z. On a field trip to a special museum honoring the world’s heroes, Goten and Trunks see special statues that had been erected to honor those who have saved the world. Some of these heroes are more well known than others, like Mr. Satan, and some aren’t really well known at all.

In Goku’s case, he exists in sort of a grey area. He’s seen with a special statue in this museum, but those who created it are unaware of what he actually looks like. This level of recognition makes sense as he’s never really been credited for many of the times he’s saved the world, but he’s also never really sought it out either. But the times he has been in the public, he’s made quite an impact such as the many times he’s participated within the Tenkaichi Budokai tournament over the course of the years. So in a sense, he’s even created more of a “legend” than a hero status.

Shueisha

Goku Has Never Been a Traditional Hero

This just makes a lot of sense for Goku’s legacy within the Dragon Ball world overall. While Goku has saved the world on many different occasions over the decades, these fights really aren’t happening in the public eye. And when they do, humanity is usually wiped out in the face of all of that chaos. It’s why Mr. Satan’s role in it all is even more hilarious as he’s been able to capitalize on everything Goku and the others have done, but knows full well that there are some galaxy threatening beings just on the horizon.

It’s made for an interesting look on Goku’s role in things. Because while he might be one of the strongest fighters in his world, Dragon Ball Super continues to show that he’s both not really well known or even the strongest in the universe (and multiverse even more so). Goku continues to be humbled by everything that comes his way, but that’s the way he likes it. It always makes it much more impressive when he overcomes it all as a result.

Dragon Ball Daima is now at the penultimate episode of its new anime run this Winter, and with it has fully unleashed Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta’s full power. Dragon Ball Daima is working its way through the final fight against Supreme Demon King Gomah, and things had taken a turn at the end of the previous episode as Glorio made a wish on the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls. It was then revealed in Episode 19 that this wish was actually to turn Goku and the rest of the characters back into adults, so we’re getting treated to some cool battles as a result.

Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta’s reveal was one of the biggest in Dragon Ball Daima thus far as it marked the very first time that Vegeta had used this form within the canonical timeline of the series overall. Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta Mini already marked off a box that fans had been hoping to see for a long time, but Dragon Ball Daima has since taken everything even further by fully unleashing what he can do as an adult within this brand new form. Thankfully, it was clearly worth the wait.

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball Debuts Adult SSJ3 Vegeta

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 19 brings the anime series one step closer to its grand finale, and with it revealed that Glorio had used the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls to turn Goku and the others back into adults. Despite how much they had been fighting thus far, Gomah was quickly recovering from everything they dished out. Due to the power of his Tertian Oculus, it was almost as if Gomah was taking absolutely no damage as his magic and strength are just as strong as they were when it first began. Thus them turning back into adults was going to seemingly fix this issue.

With them returning to their original bodies, Vegeta takes his turn fighting against Gomah next. It’s here that after he gets readjusted to his body, Vegeta quickly unleashes his Super Saiyan 3 form. This does a lot to Gomah as Vegeta continues to pound on the Supreme Demon King, but the Tertian Oculus meant that Gomah was recovering from everything that happened while Vegeta was steadily losing out on his stamina through the course of the fight. Unfortunately, this also meant fans didn’t get to see this full Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta in action for too long.

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball Is Trying to Make Things Up to Vegeta

The timing of all of these reveals for Vegeta, however, is trying to make up for the fact that he’ll be once again left behind as Goku achieves a new kind of form that he won’t be able to. Just like how Super Saiyan 3 was seen as a seemingly exclusive form for Goku for many years before Vegeta uses it in Dragon Ball Daima, Vegeta using its power here is a way to make up for lost time. But at the same time, he’ll also be eclipse by the debut of a brand new Super Saiyan 4 transformation that Vegeta will never really use in the future.

Dragon Ball Daima is trying to explain this with the reveal of just how different of a person Vegeta is compared to Goku as the fight continues, and thus will likely be fine with missing out on this new form. But at the same time, this is a little bit too little too late. At the very least, fans finally got to see this version of Vegeta in action (even a little) after all this time.

Dragon Ball Daima’s final episodes have done what many thought would be impossible. With earlier episodes in the latest anime series in the shonen franchise revealing new tidbits about the Namekians and finally giving Dragon Ball fans Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta, the Grand Tour’s Super Saiyan 4 has finally become canon. While most Dragon Ball fans knew immediately what they were looking at when Neva blessed Goku with the primal transformation, the shonen franchise has officially confirmed that this is in fact Super Saiyan 4. With one episode remaining in Daima’s show, rest assured that anime fans will be discussing the events of the series for years to come.

At present, Daima has yet to officially call this new form “Super Saiyan 4” but the penultimate installment all but confirms this fact. Mimicking the reveal of Super Saiyan 3, the adult Goku wields the power in his fight against Gomah which is one that is sure to shake the Demon Realm to its core. Looking to separate the new Demon Lord from the Evil Third Eye with an assist from Piccolo, Super Saiyan 4 is set to be an instrumental part of the finale while still having quite a few questions surrounding it.

Mini-Goku Figure Confirms Super Saiyan 4

The official Dragon Ball website has given fans a first look at an S.H. Figuarts figure that brings Son Goku’s new transformation to life. The figure producers have confirmed the Super Saiyan 4 title in this new marketing, even with Daima refusing to do the same in recent episodes. While the upcoming merchandise has yet to reveal a release date for when you can pick it up, S.H. Figuarts has revealed a first look at the figure along with an official statement.

“Super Saiyan 4 Goku (Mini) from Dragon Ball DAIMA is joining the S.H.Figuarts series! More info will be announced at a later date, so stay tuned! Starting today, this awesome figure will be on display at the TAMASHII NATIONS STORE TOKYO as part of the DRAGON BALL TAMASHII NATIONS FIGURE EXPO, an awesome event where you can see tons of Dragon Ball figures on display!”

SH Figuarts

Why Wasn’t Super Saiyan 4 In Dragon Ball Super?

Since Dragon Ball Daima takes place before the events of Dragon Ball Super, many shonen fans have wondered why the primal transformation hasn’t been referenced in the latest series. Theories regarding the form potentially only “working” in the Demon Realm or only being able to be used within proximity of Neva have been bouncing around the internet since its debut. Hopefully, more details will be revealed regarding Goku’s newest transformation in next week’s season finale.

As of the writing of this article, the future of Dragon Ball in the anime realm remains anyone’s guess. While a producer previously confirmed that the franchise is expected to continue for decades following the tragic passing of creator Akira Toriyama, that future has fans scratching their heads. Fingers crossed that Daima’s finale will immediately confirm what the anime medium has in store for the Z-Fighters.

When it comes to power couples in Dragon Ball history, Vegeta and Bulma might be at the top of the list. While couples like Goku and Chi-Chi, #18 and Krillin, and Gohan and Videl make the rounds, the Saiyan Prince and the CEO of Capsule Corps have had quite the impact on the shonen franchise. With the latest episode of Dragon Ball Daima, the Prince of the Saiyans gets the chance to pit his strength against the Demon Lord Gomah and in doing so, is presented with a terrible proposition from his partner Bulma. Even with Super Saiyan 3 at his disposal, Vegeta didn’t see Bulma’s ultimate gambit coming.

Warning. If you have yet to see Dragon Ball Daima’s nineteenth episode, “Betrayal,” be forewarned that we’ll be diving into spoiler territory. The penultimate episode of the shonen anime has done what many fans have been waiting for, aka turning the Z-Fighters back into adults. While Glorio had a lot of mystery surrounding his allegiances, the former employee of Dr. Anisu used the wish on the Demon Realm Dragon Balls to undo Gomah and Degetsu’s wish. Putting their return to good use, Vegeta immediately takes on the current Demon Lord and goes Super Saiyan 3 as an adult for the first time in the series.

Toei Animation

Bulma’s Got The Goods

Realizing that Vegeta wasn’t exactly scoring an easy victory against Gomah, despite unleashing Super Saiyan 3, the Z-Fighters on the sidelines try to think of a way for the Saiyan Prince to back down. With the Supreme Kai stating that Vegeta would most likely die rather than give up on the fight, Bulma plays her trump card. In a shocking development, the Capsule Corporation head reveals a benefit of their relationship that Goku and company hadn’t been privy to.

Bulma yells to Vegeta that if he doesn’t step aside and let Goku and Piccolo fight Gomah, then he will never be allowed to take a bath with her ever again. This threat immediately causes the Prince of all Saiyans to back down, letting Son lead the charge in a plan with Piccolo. Transforming into a Super Saiyan 4, Goku is hoping to distract long enough that his Namekian buddy will dislodge the Evil Third Eye from Gomah’s forehead.

Super Saiyan Finale

There is one episode left in Dragon Ball Daima’s initial season, leaving many anime fans to wonder how the many plotlines of the Demon Realm will wrap. As of the writing of this article, Daima has not been confirmed for a second season and no new anime projects have been confirmed in the shonen universe. Many fans are anxiously waiting to see if Dragon Ball Super arcs like the Moro Arc and the Granolah Arc will be animated and we’re certainly crossing our fingers that these storylines are on the way to the screen.

What many believed was impossible was made possible thanks to Dragon Ball Daima. In the previous episode, a last-minute assist from the elderly Namekian Neva allowed Goku to canonically achieve the transformation dubbed “Super Saiyan 4” in Dragon Ball GT. Now, thanks to the events taking place in the anime’s penultimate episode, Son Goku has once again called upon this transformation, albeit in a way that many didn’t see coming. Goku has managed to unleash the power of an adult Super Saiyan 4, leaving many to wonder if his return to form is one that will be able to take down the Demon Lord Gomah.

Warning. If you want to avoid spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima’s latest anime episode, “Betrayal,” be forewarned that we’ll be diving into spoiler territory. Much of the penultimate anime episode focuses on an adult Vegeta using Super Saiyan 3 in a bid to take down the powered-up Gomah, who is using the power of the Evil Third Eye to give himself quite the upgrade. Thanks to Glorio’s wish on the Demon Realm’s Porunga, the Z-Fighters have all been made adults once again but this fact hasn’t stopped Son Goku from being able to rely on the Super Saiyan transformation that first got its start in the Grand Tour.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan 4 Is Go

In a scene that is sure to take the internet by storm, Son Goku recreates the scene where he first introduces Super Saiyan 3 to Majin Buu in the final major arc of Dragon Ball Z. In showing off the Super Saiyan levels to Gomah, he doesn’t stop with three but instead reveals that he can still access the power of Super Saiyan 4 whenever he wants. In unleashing his ultimate form for Daima, Goku is looking to bring the anime to a close as the final and twentieth episode will air later this month and will bring the Z-Fighters’ adventure in the Demon Realm to a close.

https://twitter.com/croooozin/status/1892955110386311384

As shonen fans have noted, Daima’s Super Saiyan 4 makes a few “tweaks” when it comes to how the form has traditionally looked in both Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Heroes. Instead of sporting black hair, Goku is rocking a red hair look for the new canon transformation, proving that Akira Toriyama was looking to put his own spin on the fourth Super Saiyan level. Of course, Goku being able to use this form at will presents a whole other question.

Why Isn’t Super Saiyan 4 in Super Then?

This is the biggest question that is now facing shonen fans as if Goku can call upon this transformation whenever he wants, why didn’t he ever use it during Dragon Ball Super? It’s possible that the form can only be accessed within the Demon Realm, as Neva has yet to truly explain just how he was able to give Son this power-up. With one episode remaining in Dragon Ball Daima, there’s a lot of ground to cover and we’re looking forward to see what questions will be answered in the potential series finale.

The Dragon Ball series has seen something of a renaissance in recent years. Not only thanks to offerings like Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, but with the arrival of Dragon Ball Daima. Recently, Dragon Ball Super released a new chapter of its manga from deceased creator Akira Toriyama, following Goten and Trunks in their current crime fighter expedition. Now, producer Akio Iyoku has taken part in an interview that not only cracked into how Dragon Ball Daima was an ode to Dragon Ball GT, but the creative mind revealed what he believes it the biggest selling points of what makes Toriyama’s shonen story work so well.

In a recent interview, Iyoku explained why the Z-Fighters have such lasting appeal, “Action is Dragon Ball’s strength, so Toei Animation has an advantage in that area. It is difficult to suddenly ask them to do action scenes. The action scenes, including the way they are directed, seem to be traditional arts, but they are constantly evolving. He says he wants to do more and more to create action scenes that are unmatched and cannot be found in other works. Surprisingly, there aren’t many works in which characters fly freely through the air. Fighting in the air is difficult to express, and it may be difficult to create. There are many other battle action works, but the basis is that the characters perform amazing techniques with their feet on the ground. All the characters in Dragon Ball fly, so I think that’s a great strength.”

Toei Animation

The Appeal of Goku And Friends

Iyoku went into detail regarding Dragon Ball’s continued popularity, using Dragon Ball Daima as a perfect example, “This time’s Demon World is one example, but it’s all a fantasy world. Although it is called Earth. In other works, there are aspects that are very close to reality, for example, if you live your daily life as a student, you often gain great power and fight, but Dragon Ball creates a complete world. I thought it was amazing when I heard about the Demon World this time too. You’ve created the universe, there’s the Demon World, the Heavenly World, and the Hell. It’s a little different from works that are based on things in everyday life.”

The producer continued, “Because it’s a complete world, it’s not exhausted, and although it’s not mentioned in the story, there’s a vague idea that there’s a certain worldview, and there’s room for imagination as to what it’s like there, and because it’s not based on reality, it’s amazing that it’s actually different from what you imagine, so I think that’s why it’s repeated like that. There are human characters, there are a handful of earthlings, and the rest are almost all aliens. So what happens is that their thoughts and principles of action are not the same as what we think. So it’s really wow, and it stirs your emotions. I think it’s amazing that everything is properly made, that it’s really made. I think that’s the element that makes everyone so fascinated. There aren’t many worlds that are made entirely based on imagination, actually. Even in entertainment as a whole. It’s easier to understand if you have something as a base, so you prepare it as a setting.”

Dragon Ball Daima is still making waves in the anime world thanks to the series making elements like Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta and Super Saiyan 4 Goku canon to the shonen franchise. On top of the television series, the Dragon Ball franchise has recently brought back its current manga, Dragon Ball Super, with a new chapter written by deceased creator Akira Toriyama. In said installment, readers are presented with a hilarious story focusing on Goten and Trunks as they jump into their superhero careers. In a shocking twist, Goten’s older brother returns to the superhero game and gets a new identity in the process.

Warning. If you have yet to read the latest chapter of Dragon Ball Super’s manga, Chapter 104, be forewarned that we’ll be diving into serious spoiler territory. One of the biggest influences that helped push Goten and Trunks into crime fighting was the hero known as “Clean God.” Instead of harnessing energy blasts or Super Saiyan transformations, Clean God takes a mop into battle to clean up crime. The masked vigilante gives Great Saiyaman a run for his money in the humor department, which is ironic since Gohan has become the Clean God in the latest manga chapter.

Toei Animation

Gohan The Clean God

So how on Earth does Goku’s oldest son become the latest crime fighter? Well, it’s all thanks to Mr. Satan and the filming of Clean God’s television series. Originally, one of Hercule’s students was meant to take on the role but Gohan stepped in when the underling got sick. Using a voice changer and a face mask, Gohan fooled Trunks with ease, as he explained to Mr. Satan and Videl.

“That was close! He was about to fight in front of everyone. If people find out he has superpowers, his high school life would be ruined!” Gohan explained, “He didn’t notice it was me so I started monologuing as Clean God.” Ultimately, Gohan’s role as both Clean God and the Great Saiyaman helped to push Trunks and Goten into the crimefighting business.

Dragon Ball Super’s Future

With Dragon Ball Daima preparing to come to an end later this month, shonen fans are left wondering whether the season finale might give a hint as to Dragon Ball Super’s anime return. Since completing the Tournament of Power in 2017, the anime series has continued its story thanks to the films Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. With major story arcs like the Moro Arc and the Granolah Arc having yet to be adapted to the small screen, the anime adaptation’s comeback is one that could have years of potential stories before catching up to its source material.

Dragon Ball Super has finally made its highly anticipated return after a nearly year long hiatus, and the newest chapter of the series has revealed a brand new story never seen before. Dragon Ball Super previously came to a hiatus following the tragic passing of franchise creator Akira Toriyama last year. 2024 came to an end without any hope of a potential return, but things quickly changed in 2025 when it was revealed that Dragon Ball Super would be returning for a brand new chapter after all of these months. But it’s a different kind of release than fans might expect.

Dragon Ball Super has officially returned for Chapter 104 of the manga series, which is the next major chapter following its hiatus. But it’s a different kind of situation than fans might hope as rather than a full return that teases what could be coming next in Dragon Ball Super’s story, it’s a special one-shot story that showcases more of how Trunks and Goten were ultimately inspired to fight as costumed heroes seen during the manga’s expanded version of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Arc.

Shueisha

Where to Read Dragon Ball Super Chapter 104

If you wanted to check out Dragon Ball Super‘s new one-shot story for yourself, you can now find Chapter 104 of the manga with either Shueisha’s MangaPlus service or Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump library (which you can find here) completely for free. When we had last seen Dragon Ball Super, the series was capping off a special epilogue for its adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie. The final chapter of this run teased an opened ended future for the series, but cede future has been uncertain over the past year thanks to the extended hiatus. This new chapter actually returns to the arc’s ideas.

Dragon Ball Super‘s manga had a special version of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero arc that included brand new material set before and after the events of the movie. The new prologue featured much more of Trunks and Goten as they were going around as costumed Saiyaman heroes who were helping to fight crime. Now thanks to this new one-shot entry going back to before the events of this prologue, fans can see how the two were inspired to be crime fighting superheroes in the first place (and ultimately inspire the events of the arc to come after).

Shueisha

Is Dragon Ball Super Back?

This new Dragon Ball Super chapter is unfortunately being treated as a one-shot story with a beginning and ending. This means that the manga is unfortunately not back to a regular schedule, but there is some promise for the series to potentially continue someday. We’re now in a unknown time as following Akira Toriyama’s passing, Dragon Ball Super could potentially exist with new stories that aren’t overseen by the original creator. Which means that while these new stories will be canon, it’s going to be a tough road to navigate moving forward.

This new Dragon Ball Super chapter is a great example of how Shueisha and artist Toyotaro are continuing to move forward with the franchise, but it’s unclear what that future might be. There’s still the threat of Black Frieza lingering overhead in the future of this series, so fans are hoping to see a full comeback from the manga sooner rather than later. As of now, this new one-shot is a great way to scratch that itch for fans who have been waiting for the past year for more.

Dragon Ball Daima might get the lion’s share of the attention in the shonen universe at the moment, but fans shouldn’t sleep on Dragon Ball Super. Recently making a comeback following the tragic passing of Akira Toriyama, the manga is taking the chance to venture back into the past to explore Goten and Trunks becoming costumed crime fighters. While the 104th chapter is hardly setting the stakes for a world-ending confrontation, it has made some wild changes in the lore of the anime universe and has finally confirmed that an anime-only character is now canon for the first time.

The character in question is none other than Olibu, a human warrior who was mostly seen during both the “Other World Tournament” and the Majin Buu Saga. Having perished long before the events of either of these arcs, Olibu was an “anime-only” figure that was far from a Super Saiyan but was still able to handle his own in a fight. Now, in Dragon Ball Super, we learn that even though he didn’t officially make an appearance in the fight against Kid Buu, the brawny hero did in fact fight for the future of the Earth and is now deceased, making his way to a hall of heroes.

Toei Animation

Olibu Rises

During a field trip, Trunks and his class visit a museum in their city dedicated to past heroes. While not given a rundown of his past, Olibu is featured as a statue within the museum itself, proving that he both existed and fought to keep the Planet Earth safe in the past. This marks the first time that the after-life fighter has appeared in the manga as the Dragon Ball franchise hasn’t focused on the other world as much as the anime adaptation has.

On top of introducing Olibu, the museum also had a tribute to “Master Mutaito,” the teacher who taught Master Roshi everything he knows. Mutaito was the warrior to come up with the “Evil Containment Wave” that had originally captured the Demon Lord Piccolo prior to the events of the original Dragon Ball. While Mutaito would meet his end while fighting the villain, Roshi would live on to help foster a brand new generation of heroes.

Everything’s Canon Now

Dragon Ball Daima has made good use of its anime episodes so far when it comes to making things canon. For some time, Vegeta fans have been waiting to see if the Z-Fighter would ever be able to use the transformation known as Super Saiyan 3. In traveling the Demon Realm, the Saiyan Prince revealed that he was able to train hard enough in the background to gain the form. Of course, Super Saiyan 3 isn’t the only Super Saiyan form that made its way into Daima.

In the latest episode of the series, “Awakening,” Son Goku was able to achieve the level of Super Saiyan 4 for the first time thanks to an assist from the elderly Namekian Neva. First appearing in Dragon Ball GT and making frequent appearances in the spin-off series, Super Dragon Ball Heroes, shonen fans have waited for decades to see if this form would make its way into the main universe. With only a few episodes remaining in Daima’s first season, fans are wondering what other surprises are in store.

Dragon Ball Daima has debuted a new take on Super Saiyan 3 Goku with its new anime, and now fans have gotten a much closer look at this new design for Goku Mini. Dragon Ball Daima is speedily approaching the final episode of its new anime series, and fans have seen Goku taking on some tough foes thus far. But this current fight against the Supreme Demon King Gomah has started to push Goku even further beyond with the reveal of a brand new transformation. Even with that, Super Saiyan 3 Goku is still making its mark after all this time.

Super Saiyan 3 Goku Mini made its debut in the final few episodes of Dragon Ball Daima, but it was unfortunately overshadowed by the debut of Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta earlier in the series. Then it was further overshadowed by the canonical debut of Super Saiyan 4 Goku as the battle continued as well. Fans got to enjoy Super Saiyan 3 Goku Mini for a short time in the fight against Gomah, and now fans have gotten a closer look at this new design as crafted by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru.

https://twitter.com/DB_Simplemente/status/1891255790301790669

How Strong Is SSJ3 Goku Mini in Dragon Ball Daima?

Super Saiyan 3 has proven to be a powerful form within the Demon Realm as Vegeta had used the transformation to quickly end a fight with the Second Demon World’s Tamagami. But when Goku used the form in Dragon Ball Daima‘s climax, it had only temporarily closed the gap in power between he and Gomah. The Tertian Oculus has given the Supreme Demon King a powerful magic that has overwhelmed all of his opponents so far, and it was the same for Super Saiyan 3 Goku Mini in this case too. Gomah was just simply too strong.

Super Saiyan 3 was as high as the Saiyans could go to during the events of Dragon Ball Daima as it’s set not long after the events of the Majin Buu arc, but shortly before the events of the Battle of Gods arc that kicked off Dragon Ball Super. This meant that Goku and Vegeta really had a ceiling for how strong they could get, and what ultimately made the debut of Super Saiyan 4 all the more exciting as it was something fans had never expected to see given the anime’s place on the overall Dragon Ball timeline.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan 3 Is Cool Again

Dragon Ball Daima might not have focused too much on the Super Saiyan 3 transformation, but it ultimately made it cool again after all these years. The transformation was often skipped over in favor of much stronger forms we’d see later on, so future appearances of this fan favorite form had been limited to only a few occasions when Goku was trying his best to maintain his stamina. But its toll on Goku and Vegeta also meant that we don’t get to see it in action as often as we’d like.

That’s changed with Dragon Ball Daima as not only are Majins using the form in hilarious new ways, but we got to see Vegeta use it for the first time in franchise history. Super Saiyan 4 might be taking up most of the attention as the anime heads into its climax, but it did a lot of work to make the Super Saiyan 3 form as prominent as when it was debuted in Dragon Ball Z all those years ago. It’s back to being seen as special once more even with these tinier bodies.

Dragon Ball Daima is preparing to bring its series to an end later this month, but the anime adaptation has already blown fans minds by introducing transformations and characters that shonen fans never thought they’d see. Hot on the heels of Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta, Dragon Ball Super’s manga is also planning to make a comeback to add to the big Z-Fighters’ news. With a special installment arriving as the one hundred and fourth chapter of the shonen manga, Dragon Ball Super has some bad news for fans who were waiting for this long-awaited comeback after the tragic passing of creator Akira Toriyama.

Initially, the next entry in Dragon Ball Super’s manga was billed as a “special one-shot” which was then changed to officially be the 104th chapter. Unfortunately, the chapter isn’t hinting at when we can expect the manga to continue the Z-Fighters’ story following Goten and Trunks’ superhero stint. Chapter 105’s release date remains a mystery and it doesn’t appear as though the shonen’s return will get Goku and company back on a monthly schedule. With the next installment being seen as a “one-off,” it will be interesting to see what storylines, if any, are set up to move the Z-Fighters’ forward in their lives.

toei animation

Dragon Ball Super: A Future Without Toriyama

Akira Toriyama had a major hand in creating both Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Dragon Ball Daima before his tragic passing last year. Throughout much of Dragon Ball Super’s manga history, Toriyama was aided by artist Toyotaro who played a major role in forging the anime heroes’ future. In the past, Toyotaro has stated that he worked in conjunction with Akira on past arcs, including the Moro and Granolah The Survivor Arcs. Most likely, Toyotaro will helm the future of the manga moving forward.

One of the biggest elements that has been left hanging in Dragon Ball Super has been Frieza and his new transformation he unleashed during the Granolah Arc. Now able to transform into “Black Frieza”, the alien despot was able to defeat both Goku and Vegeta at their strongest with one hit. No word has been revealed regarding what the next arc will look like following Goten and Trunks’ one-off, though there’s plenty of room to explore.

Daima x Super

Now that Dragon Ball Daima has fully introduced the Demon Realm and the many transformations that have arisen within it, Dragon Ball Super could easily bring many of these elements to its story. Certainly, anime fans would love to see more of Super Saiyan 4 in the shonen franchise and now, the current sequel series has the perfect chance to focus on it. Dragon Ball Heroes might have been the only anime series originally to pit the fourth Super Saiyan level against Super Saiyan Blue, but now the main series can do the same.

Dragon Ball Daima has unleashed a new version of Super Saiyan 4 Goku with its latest episode, and the anime has shared a much closer look at this new transformation’s design to help celebrate. Dragon Ball Daima has been in the works for much longer than fans might expect, and those behind the scenes were hoping to craft a brand new series separate from all of the events of the then in development Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie. But while it has been new, the team also wanted many of the anime’s elements to feel familiar to older fans as well.

Dragon Ball Daima was developed to parallel Dragon Ball GT in many ways as Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku even revealed in an interview that the Dragon Ball team wasn’t even expecting franchise creator Akira Toriyama to be involved with this new series at all. With his involvement and the parallels to Dragon Ball GT, the Super Saiyan 4 form has now officially made its debut within the official Dragon Ball canon. Check out the designs for Super Saiyan 4 Goku Mini, developed by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, below as spotted by @SupaChronicles on X and Anime Ajay.

Super Saiyan 4 Goku Mini Debuts in Dragon Ball Daima

Dragon Ball Daima is set to end in just two more episodes, and Goku and the other fighters are now in the climax of the fight against Supreme Demon King Gomah. The Tertian Oculus has now boosted his magic to the point where he was easily overwhelming each of the fighters, and thus Neva decided to help things along a bit. As Super Saiyan 3 Goku struggled to deal any real damage to Gomah, Neva used his magic to spark a new kind of transformation within Goku. This turned out to be a new version of the Super Saiyan 4 transformation for Goku’s Mini form.

Although this transformation brings Dragon Ball GT’s previously exclusive Super Saiyan 4 into the official Dragon Ball canon as overseen by Akira Toriyama, it’s yet to be revealed if this new transformation is indeed going to be known as Super Saiyan 4. While it more resembles the kind of God ki that emerges when Goku transforms into Super Saiyan God, it returns to the beastly kind of nature that made Super Saiyan 4 so popular during its initial debut all those years ago. So there’s still a potential to see this form again in the future in some unknown way.

Toei Animation

What’s Next for Dragon Ball Daima?

Although the official canon debut of Super Saiyan 4 Goku is a big deal, it still was nowhere near enough to deal any kind of real damage to Supreme Demon King Gomah as he brought Goku back to his base level at the end of Episode 18. There are now two more episodes to go as this new anime will officially be coming to an end with Episode 20 on February 28th in Japan. If you wanted to check out the final episode as soon as it releases, you’ll be able to check it out with Crunchyroll and Hulu (with the final episode coming to Netflix at a later date).

There’s still a chance that Dragon Ball Daima has even more surprises up its sleeves before it all comes to an end as the fight against Gomah is nowhere near its end yet. There is about to be a new wish made on the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls, and that’s likely going to shake things up in some big ways as well.

Dragon Ball Daima has introduced a brand new take on Super Saiyan 4, and with it has cemented this form’s power on the same level as the god forms. Dragon Ball Daima has been celebrating Dragon Ball‘s 40th anniversary since it kicked off its run last Fall, and it’s sent Goku on a brand new adventure through the Demon Realm. But while this has been a new story from late creator Akira Toriyama, in many ways it has felt incredibly familiar as many of these new elements have been reworked takes on ideas first introduced during the non-canon events of Dragon Ball GT.

Dragon Ball Daima has made many intentional connections to everything that happened to Dragon Ball GT as some of its biggest ideas have been fully introduced to the official Dragon Ball canon timeline. The biggest example of which came with the latest episode of the anime that saw Goku transform into a new kind of Super Saiyan 4. The notable change with this transformative reboot, however, is the bright red color of it all. Which means it’s likely in the same range of power as Super Saiyan God.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan 4’s Power Level Has to Fit Into the Dragon Ball Timeline

In trying to figure out just how strong Goku’s new Super Saiyan 4 form must be, one of the big things to consider is Dragon Ball Daima‘s overall place in the timeline. Because this new anime is set after the events of the Majin Buu arc but ahead of Battle of Gods, this is an anime that can’t quite have massive shake ups that would change the future trajectory of the events we’ve seen in Dragon Ball Super’s arcs to come. Any new forms or powers would automatically have to pale in comparison to what Goku and Vegeta use later, otherwise it would raise the question of why we never see those forms or powers again.

Dragon Ball Daima is able to curtail this debate right with the debut of this new Super Saiyan 4. Not only is it brought about by Neva’s powerful Namekian magic (which likely means it’s something that Goku will never be able to replicate after), but it also lines up its power with Super Saiyan God. There’s a brief flaming aura not unlike Super Saiyan God’s that swirls around Goku as he transforms, and his hair is a more wild version of Super Saiyan God. So arguably, this would place it in the same range. Thus when Goku and Vegeta train to use that instead, it would make sense to avoid a less refined version of that power seen in this form.

Toei Animation

Dragon Ball Daima Nerfs All Of its Fighters

Super Saiyan 4 form being equal to Super Saiyan God would explain why Goku never bothers to achieve this transformation again, but also would just make sense within Dragon Ball Daima. Not only is this still not enough to make up the differences in power against Supreme Demon King Gomah as seen in the episode itself, but it’s something that makes sense across the series as a whole. Dragon Ball Daima has been nerfing Goku and the others’ abilities from the beginning.

Dragon Ball Daima has had to limit all of the power levels seen in the series because they couldn’t overwrite Dragon Ball Super’s events, so even a brand new form would have been Super Saiyan God level at the most. Making Super Saiyan 4 slot firmly within this level of power is a creative way around all of this, but also does put a ceiling on the form overall. But as Dragon Ball Super continues telling new stories in the future, Super Saiyan 4 just might come back in the future through more evolutions on it.

Dragon Ball Daima has officially made Super Saiyan 4 a part of the main series canon many years after its Dragon Ball GT debut, and the new transformation is also keeping up one of the form’s wildest traditions after all these years too. Dragon Ball Daima was scouted by fans as seemingly following in Dragon Ball GT‘s steps when it was first announced. Not only did it turn Goku into a child again like that original series, but was also following Goku and some surprising allies as they adventured through a mysterious realm of planets to search for a new set of Dragon Balls.

As explained through interviews and other promotional reveals from Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku, this connection to Dragon Ball GT was completely intentional as the team wanted something older fans could watch with their children. It would be both familiar and new, so it wasn’t entirely a surprise to see a new version of Super Saiyan 4 Goku also making its debut. But what was surprising about it was to see this new version of the transformation also magically change Goku’s clothes in the process too just like the old non-canonical version.

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 18 debuted a brand new take on Goku’s Super Saiyan 4 form, but it’s still a bit different from the Dragon Ball GT version in some key ways. Not only is this form now a part of the official canon as overseen by late franchise creator Akira Toriyama, but it also comes about differently as well. Rather than being sparked by a new Bulma invention shooting Goku with special energy, it’s Neva using his mysterious Namekian magic to spark this transformation from within Goku. So their transformations are different at the core.

Goku’s new, now canonical version of Super Saiyan 4 not only keeps Goku at his much younger self (rather than boosting him to an adult form like in Dragon Ball GT), but does retain the fact that his clothes magically change to suit the new form too. It’s a change in pants and shoes compared to what he had before, but it’s at least better explained with the use of Neva’s magic. One can assume that like Piccolo, Neva also has a magic ability to just produce clothes for someone. And he just did that for Goku to go along with this new kind of awakening.

Toei Animation

What Else Is New About Super Saiyan 4?

Although this is very familiar to the way the Super Saiyan 4 form was debuted in Dragon Ball GT, this new take on the form also has some key differences outside of the immediately visual ones. The biggest of which is the red hair that is both in fur and on the top of his head. It’s more in line with the kind of red Goku has when using Super Saiyan God, and even has a bit of their fiery aura when transforming into the new form too. Which means that there are even more changes to explore between the two.

Because with the nature of Neva’s magic being key to using this transformation, it also places Super Saiyan 4 within a very unique place within the Dragon Ball canonical timeline. It’s never used before Dragon Ball Super, and likely may never be used again outside of the Demon Realm (and without Neva’s explicit help in bringing it out). So now fans just need to wait and see how Super Saiyan 4 might continue to develop in the anime’s future.

Dragon Ball Daima has officially made Super Saiyan 4 a part of the official canon after all these years, and with this move has really screwed over Vegeta again as Goku now has yet another transformation that Vegeta will not be able to catch up with in time. Dragon Ball Daima has made great strides to narrow the rivalry between Goku and Vegeta as since it takes place immediately after the events of the Majin Buu arc, it was able to bring Goku and Vegeta back to the same base level as they grew and took on new opponents. Vegeta even temporarily had the edge over Goku too.

Vegeta was able to reveal that he had too unlocked the Super Saiyan 3 form, but it was just something fans had never seen in action with Dragon Ball Super as Goku and Vegeta ascended into godhood forms instead. This closed the gap between the two of them and finally explained why Vegeta hadn’t used it before, but now Dragon Ball Daima has thrown a wrench into the events with the reveal of Super Saiyan 4. Now Goku once again has an exclusive form that Vegeta likely won’t be able to reach through just his training alone. He might not catch up this time around.

Toei Animation

Vegeta Can’t Obtain Super Saiyan 4

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 18 officially made the previously exclusive to Dragon Ball GT form a part of the canon as Neva used his magic to unlock the Super Saiyan 4 transformation within Goku. This intentionally mirrors how Dragon Ball GT brought about the form as Goku in that series was hit by a special energy beam that helped to bring about this new transformation. It’s through these special circumstances that Goku is able to unleash a new version of Super Saiyan 4 within the official timeline. So naturally it’s sparked some questions.

Though the transformation is not enough on its own to bridge the gap in power with Supreme Demon Gomah’s use of the Tertian Oculus, it was still a transformation that was clearly bothering Vegeta as he was no longer fighting on the same level of Goku. Through the debut of Super Saiyan 3, it was made clear that he had been privately training to unlock the form on his own as a matter of pride. He wasn’t even planning to use the form in front of Goku, but wanted it anyway. But now there’s yet something else he’s not able to do yet.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan 4 Might Be Impossible to Replicate

Unfortunately for Vegeta in this case, Super Saiyan 4 might be a one time type of transformation given the circumstances it was brought out. Not only is this a very special situation within the Demon Realm (not something Goku and Vegeta will ever deal with again until long after much of Dragon Ball Super‘s future), but this was also brought out with Neva’s very powerful magic giving Goku a latent power boost.

This seems to imply that Super Saiyan 4 is just under the surface of each of Goku and Vegeta’s transformation, but this additional magic boost really is going to limit how it’s used in the future. And because we don’t see it used later, it’s likely that Goku will be unable to tap into this form again let alone Vegeta be able to reach it through private training like Super Saiyan 3. It’s just another way Dragon Ball‘s screwing over Vegeta on a loss of an exclusive form that he will just have to skip over.

Dragon Ball Daima has been fit to bursting with surprises for fans of the long-running shonen franchise. With elements introduced like Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta, Super Saiyan 4 Goku, and the true origin of the Namekian race, there remain two episodes in the series to pack in some shocking moments. While Goku finally making one of the biggest Grand Tour transformations canon, the final moments of the latest episode was one that paid homage to the “black sheep” of the series. A new Eternal Dragon has been summoned in the Demon Realm and it both harkens on the past of Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Z.

To fill folks in, Glorio and Dr. Anisu are able to summon the Eternal Dragon of the Demon Realm, who looks quite familiar to the Dragon of the Planet Namek. Porunga didn’t just look different from Shenron when he appeared during the Frieza Saga, the Dragon had the ability to make three wishes come true rather than just one. For the Demon Realm’s wish-granting lizard, Daima has recreated Porunga’s look with a major difference. The underworld Dragon is sporting a red aesthetic, which ironically enough, is another callback to the Grand Tour.

Toei Animation

A Red Dragon of The Grand Tour Variety

In Dragon Ball GT, the Dragon first emerged with the color red thanks to the Black Star Dragon Balls. With the Red Shenron transforming Goku into a child thanks to a wish made by Pilaf and his crew, the wish made on the Demon Realm Dragon remains a mystery. Even though Glorio has been on the side of the Z-Fighters since the start, he has been secretly in the employ of Dr. Anisu and with the next episode titled “Betrayal,” the demon warrior might have burned his bridge with Goku and company. Ultimately, it will be interesting to see if the new red dragon will be able to turn things back to normal at this point.

The Demon Realm Dragon was created by Neva, whose powers as a Namekian are unlike anything that fans of the shonen series have seen so far. With the green-skinned mystery responsible for giving Goku his Super Saiyan 4 transformation, it has yet to be seen just where Neva will end up when the series does end this month. With Dragon Ball Super coming back this February as well, perhaps Neva will make an appearance in the sequel series’ future.

The Dragon Ball GT Crossover Many Didn’t See Coming

Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku recently confirmed that Daima was meant as a love letter to the Grand Tour, making various elements from the spin-off now canon in the latest anime, “I was conscious of the generation in their early 30s and older who have grown up and have children. I wanted to make an anime that parents and children could watch together. They are the generation that watched ‘Dragon Ball GT‘ as children. I was conscious of that, and my attempt to create a new anime series like ‘GT’ became the starting point.”

Dragon Ball Daima has done what many anime fans thought they’d never see in their lifetimes. The eighteenth episode of the shonen spin-off, “Awakening,” is one that finally made Super Saiyan 4 canon. Thanks to a last minute assist from the Namekian Neva, Son Goku was able to reach a brand new level in the fight against the Demon Realm lord Gomah. Thanks to this monumental moment, another big transformation that took place in the recent installment might have fallen to the wayside, though it’s worth discussing which demon was able to use the “power” of Super Saiyan 3.

One of the biggest headlines that Dragon Ball Daima received was thanks to the series finally giving Vegeta the power to go Super Saiyan 3. Since the Saiyan Prince never used this form in Dragon Ball Super, many fans were thrown for a loop when Vegeta was finally able to use this power-up. Before Goku relied on the power of Super Saiyan 4, the Z-Fighter was hoping that 3 would be enough to defeat Gomah. With Majin Duu fighting alongside the Saiyan, the Demon Realm creation found himself managing to create a Super Saiyan 3 form of his own in one of the wildest twists of the anime so far.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan 3 Majin Duu

Now technically, Majin Duu doesn’t actually transform into a Super Saiyan 3 but instead does his best to recreate the form. Thanks to getting a last minute assist in the form of a chocolate bar, Duu is more than ready to follow in Goku’s footsteps and use his transforming abilities to give himself the same mane used by the form. Unfortunately, even the Super Saiyan 3 pair are unable to defeat Gomah at this junction.

Duu and Kuu have been interesting new villains to add the shonen franchise, as they are somewhat reminiscent to the first form of Majin Buu that anime fans were introduced to. Rather than wanting to kill anyone by turning them into chocolate, Dr. Anisu’s creations are far less malevolent. Ultimately, it will be interesting to see if the Majins make a return appearance in Dragon Ball Super as the manga is set to return later this month.

Anisu’s Majin Surprise

Of course, the Majins might not be trying to kill the Z-Fighters at the moment but this doesn’t mean that Dr. Anisu’s plans have come to an end. In the final moments of the recent episode, Glorio is able to make a wish on the Eternal Dragon of the Demon Realm. Thanks to not revealing what Glorio had wished for in “Awakening’s” conclusion, anime fans are left with quite the cliffhanger. There are two episodes remaining in Daima’s first season, meaning Dragon Ball fans are speculating whether the series will receive a second season or Dragon Ball Super’s anime return might be making a comeback.

The moment that many shonen fans thought they would never see has finally arrived. Dragon Ball Daima has finally given Son Goku the power to transform into a Super Saiyan 4. The transformation first appeared in Dragon Ball GT, the outside-of-canon series that is sometimes considered the black sheep of the franchise, and has only now been made a part of the official storyline. While the form itself that arrived in the Demon Realm is definitely “SSJ4,” there are quite a few differences when it comes to how it is born and the look of the transformation that taps into the ape-side of the Saiyan race.

Warning. If you have yet to watch the eighteenth episode of Dragon Ball Daima, “Awakening,” be forewarned that we’ll be diving into spoiler territory. To start, let’s take a look at how Goku finally achieves the level of Super Saiyan 4. After finding himself unable to defeat the Demon Lord Gomah’s newest form, Son Goku is on the ropes. Even with Super Saiyan 3 at his disposal and Majin Kuu giving him back-up, it wasn’t enough for the Z-Fighter to take the win, until Neva stepped in. The elderly Namekian of the Demon Realm holds his hand over the anime hero, bringing back Goku’s tail and transforming him into a Super Saiyan 4.

Toei Animation

Super Saiyan Changes

As long time Dragon Ball fans know, Super Saiyan 4 as a transformation looked quite different in the Grand Tour than in Daima. To start, Goku could not use the form in his “mini-form” so the form would have him once again returning to his adult years. In the latest anime series, Goku remains a child as he calls upon Super Saiyan 4, making for quite the departure from GT.

On top of this, Goku and Vegeta becoming Super Saiyan 4s in Dragon Ball GT saw them both still sporting their black hair but in Daima, Goku looks far closer to a mix between 4 and Super Saiyan God. Now sporting red hair, the new take on the transformation incorporates the sound effects of Kaioken while also giving Goku a silver energy outline, perhaps making him touching on the power of the Gods. While we were never going to see Ultra Instinct in this side story, this is certainly the next best thing.

It also goes without saying that SSJ4 is stronger than the third Super Saiyan form, as Vegeta and Piccolo note as much. Unfortunately, the form alone isn’t able to completely take down Gomah, whose power is still sky rocketing thanks to the Third Evil Eye. With two episodes remaining in the series, Dragon Ball Daima has proven that it is a series where anything can happen.

The Super Saiyan 4 of the Grand Tour

How Goku achieved Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball GT was vastly different from how it happened in Daima. During the Grand Tour, Goku was able to achieve the form thanks to assistance from both the Supreme Kai and the Elder Kai as they restored his tail in the fight against the villainous Baby. Rather than waving their hands, they had to physically pull the tail back into existence in a hilarious scene. Before gaining Super Saiyan 4, Goku became a “Golden Oozaru,” a form that did not make the cut for Daima.

As of yet, we have yet to see if Vegeta will also become a Super Saiyan 4 though we have to imagine that if Neva could do this for Goku, then he could do the same for the Prince of all Saiyans.

It has finally happened. When Dragon Ball Daima first introduced us to the long-awaited Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta, shonen fans were left wondering if the spin-off series would actually pull the trigger on bringing one of the biggest forms from the Grand Tour into the canon. Well we have good news for you Dragon Ball fans as the side story has done the impossible. A long-awaited transformation has finally been made canon and we have all the goods when it comes to how Goku has finally been able to bring the form that Dragon Ball GT fans have been waiting to see.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Super Saiyan 4 is now canon. Thanks to Dragon Ball Daima’s eighteenth episode, “Awakening”, Son Goku has learned how to harness the power of the Grand Tour transformation in the Demon Realm thanks to an assist from Neva. In fighting against Gomah’s new form, Goku regains his tail and is able to achieve the transformation that sees him tap into his Oozaru power and become a Super Saiyan 4 for the first time in the official canon. Now as to why he never uses this power in Dragon Ball Super is anyone’s guess.

toei animation

Super Saiyan 4 Is Here

The biggest changes that you’ll see are the slight variations in the coloring of Goku’s new form from the original Grand Tour, striking any of the black from Super Saiyan 4 and instead having it all be a dark red. On top of this, Goku is using the transformation as a child, which is something that GT never did as it would routinely make Son change from a kid to an adult. Needless to say, this might just be one of the biggest events in the Dragon Ball franchise in some time and shows that Daima was truly made in the spirit of Dragon Ball GT.

Dragon Ball Daima only has two episodes left until the end of its series but with this giant reveal, it’s clear that anything can happen. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on everything related to Super Saiyan 4’s introduction into the Dragon Ball series so stay tuned as we come to grips with this monumental shift in the shonen universe.
