The Power Rangers franchise is now in the works on a new reboot series for Disney+, and Hasbro should really take this opportunity to start off with something brand new in order to avoid the mistakes of the past. The Power Rangers franchise lasted for 30 years worth of television shows, video games, comics, feature films and more, and seemingly ended its run for good with the release of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury on Netflix back in 2023. But you can’t keep this franchise down as a new take on the series is already in the works for a new rebooted era.

Hasbro and 20th Century TV are reportedly now working on a new Power Rangers series for Disney+ with Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, who are currently working on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series for Disney+, to serve as showrunners and executive producers that will be a “reinvention” of the classic franchise. The best way to do and to keep both older and newer fans of the series happy is to just start with a clean break and tackle a brand new version of the franchise never seen before.

Hasbro

Power Rangers Is Built on Reboots

At its core, Power Rangers is a franchise that’s build on rebooting itself. Not only was the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series a reboot of the Super Sentai series, Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, with new edited footage added for the American version of the show, but the franchise itself was reinvented each year. Although Mighty Morphin Power Rangers originally ran for three full seasons, there were a number of key cast changes and power changes to coincide with all of the new footage from other Super Sentai shows that were tossed in to keep it going. Power Rangers might have been set within a single timeline at first, but this changed over the many seasons.

Power Rangers fans should be used to reboots at this point, so the idea of a brand new one isn’t that wild of a premise. Although Power Rangers chose its ideas based on whatever Super Sentai series that Toei produced in Japan shortly before, it was still a show that reinvented itself with each season. It even got to the point that each new season was basically an entirely new series with a new cast, new premise, new timelines, powers, and much more. It was just something we all accepted without issue. But somewhere along the line, the idea of rebooting the series became an issue with dedicated fans.

For whatever reason, Power Rangers fans started fighting back against the idea of the series changing up or ignoring much of what Toei’s Super Sentai franchise had produced. Although the two franchises are completely different, there was a desire to keep many of the elements the same despite the two very different purposes. Even when a Power Rangers show was completely new, like Cosmic Fury, there was a lot of heat online over the fact that it was taking elements from a different show it had ignored (which Power Rangers has been doing from the very beginning). For whatever reason, now rebooting the series is an issue.

Hasbro

Just Start Brand New With Power Rangers

In that case, it’s best to just start brand new with Power Rangers’ new Disney+ series. As fans have gotten to see through the various comic book releases, Power Rangers can do a lot more than what fans might think it’s capable of. The reliance on Toei’s Super Sentai material was not only a crutch for creativity, but also became one of its biggest hassles as more of the fanbase wanted to see that original Japanese material adapted for the new version. To avoid that hassle with this new reboot, it’s best to just start at the beginning.

It doesn’t mean start with a new version of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (which is likely what is going to happen given that it’s basically the only version of the series that broke through the general pop culture sphere), it means start out with something that has never been seen before. There are already going to be a lot of expectations working against this new series, so it’s best to meet those challenges head on with a new version of the franchise that will get to have its own story.

To further separate this new TV series from the also apparently in the works Power Rangers movie reboot, this should be a brand new story with its own characters, villains, powers and much more. It will force even the most dedicated fans to judge this new Power Rangers on its own merits as a Power Rangers series, and has the potential to even change what we think Power Rangers is. If this wants the best chance it could have at success, a fresh start free from anything potentially holding it back is the way to go.

Power Rangers Prime has shaken things up in a major way for the franchise, and one of the most surprising twists was the return of VR Troopers. The VR Troopers are currently at odds with the new Ranger team and are working for the Eltarian empire, but that might be changing with BOOM! Studios’ announcement of a new VR Troopers series, which is the first new series for the team in 30 years, and you can check out the first look below.

VR Troopers will feature a familiar name for Power Rangers fans, as former Mighty Morphin Power Rangers writer Mairghread Scott will be teaming up with artist Sebastián Piriz on the six-issue series. The book’s debut issue will feature a main cover by artist Taurin Clarke (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), as well as variants by artists James Stokoe (Godzilla) and Christian Ward (Invisible Kingdom). VR Troopers #1 will hit this June, and you can check out the official description below.

“The VR Troopers are the most elite of the Eltarian empire’s human heroes on Earth, but what secrets are the Eltarian’s keeping? When VR Ryan tracks down a rogue Skug, he’ll come face-to-face with a foe who will change his understanding of VR—and himself—forever!”

Just like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, VR Troopers was a fellow Saban Entertainment creation, and it also adapted footage from a previous show to bring it to life, though it didn’t pull from the same sources. VR Troopers featured footage from Toei’s Metal Hero Series, which included Uchuu Keiji Shaider, Jikuu Senshi Spielban, and Choujinki Metalder.

VR Troopers features three main heroes, which include the aforementioned Ryan Steele, JB Reese, and Kaitlin Star. They end up learning the secrets of the VR Dimension from Professor Horatio Hart, and they soon take up the tall task of becoming VR Troopers to stop the evil Grimlord from conquering the VR Realm and the real world.

VR Troopers ran for two seasons and ended in 1996, with a lack of usable footage being a contributing factor to closing out its run. That led to the introduction of the Big Bad Beetleborgs, and with anything possible in the new Power Rangers Prime, you just never know who will end up showing up.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers RPM

Power Rangers has had quite the journey over the past 31 years, and it’s only getting wilder as time goes on. Case in point, the latest report stating that a new Power Rangers series is in development for Disney+ from the minds of Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz. While every part of that sentence is major news, it is interesting that if this all pans out, Power Rangers and Disney will be on their second go-round, though both sides are in (somewhat) different places. That’s why I want to examine what went wrong the first time and why this newest opportunity might just work out pretty well for both parties.

The First Time Around

Power Rangers was part of Saban Entertainment from its inception in 1993, but then in 2001, it became part of the Disney umbrella, officially entering the franchise’s Disney Era. Disney owned the franchise until 2010, and during that time fans got Power Rangers Ninja Storm (2003), Power Rangers Dino Thunder (2004), Power Rangers S.P.D. (2005), Power Rangers Mystic Force (2006), Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (2007), Power Rangers Jungle Fury (2008), and Power Rangers RPM (2009).

Looking at the releases as a whole, you can’t argue that Disney had some successful outings, as Dino Thunder, S.P.D., and RPM are all well-liked by fans and have spawned fan-favorite characters and concepts, and seasons like Mystic Force and Ninja Storm have passionate fans as well (including me on the former).

What Went Right and What Went Wrong

Disney made some welcome changes to the franchise, including a push for more original footage. This tends to cause some debate amongst long-time fans, but I’ve always preferred the use of more original footage as opposed to the majority being Sentai. Disney also gave a production boost to the show, with both the effects and the general writing on the series improving quite a bit.

Those are all wins, so in theory, Power Rangers should have been a perfect property for Disney to expand and grow. While elements of the series certainly flourished under Disney, the era was also hampered by Disney’s ever-changing approach to children’s and teenage programming. During its time with Disney, Power Rangers went from being a part of the 4Kids lineup to being a part of ABC Family to then being part of Jetix, so while these are only factors, the constant changing of Disney’s approach to programming and distribution was a hurdle the show had to consistently overcome.

It’s also worth noting that there seemed to be a debate internally regarding Power Rangers. Disney acquired Power Rangers through their bigger deal to acquire Fox Family, so while they did utilize the franchise, it wasn’t something they sought out, and the show’s level of violence is something that came up during its tenure ere and how it worked with Disney’s image and brand.

That’s why it felt like there were starts and stops regarding marketing and promotion throughout its time there, and it didn’t help that Disney actively looked to get out of producing more seasons at several points. That time would finally wrap when Haim Saban re-purchased the franchise, kicking off what we now know as the Neo-Saban Era.

Why This Might Work

So, if it didn’t go so great the first time, why will it work now? To start, Disney is in a very different place regarding its content strategy and approach to its brand. Disney has returned to a prosperous position under Bob Iger’s second term as CEO, and part of that formula has been bringing back iconic properties and established franchises.

Enter Power Rangers, which is at a bit of a crossroads as a brand and franchise. Hasbro and Netflix’s partnership has been completed with Cosmic Fury and the Once & Always 30th Anniversary Special, and the TV reboot was eventually canceled. Since then Hasbro has licensed the toys to Playmates Toys and is now reportedly working with Disney on a TV series, so this could be a perfect marriage.

Disney is always looking for content for Disney+ as it continues to expand its audience and push subscriber growth, so a Power Rangers series would have an immediate and at this point rather stable home. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is set to deliver a heavily anticipated second season on the service and is already green-lit for a third, so Steinberg and Shotz already have substantial experience not only working in this format with Disney, but also in being able to bring a beloved world and set of characters to a new generation of fans that also feels authentic to those who have been there since the beginning.

Disney+ would also be a perfect home for the series, as in addition to Percy Jackson, Power Rangers would fit right alongside the service’s extensive Marvel, Star Wars, and animation catalog. The biggest factor in all this though is that Disney is a partner in this deal, signaling they have some sort of vision for where it fits in their plans and overall catalog. Last time around they simply inherited and didn’t want to just let it die on the vine, but this time it seems they are actively engaged, so perhaps we have a few reasons to be cautiously optimistic.

What do you think of this latest chapter in Power Rangers history, and where do you fall on a return to Disney? Let us know in the comments, and you can talk all things Power Rangers with me on Bluesky @knightofoa!

The mighty morphin Power Rangers are go-going to Disney+. Hasbro Entertainment is reportedly developing and will produce a new live-action Power Rangers series for the Disney streaming service and 20th Century TV, according to TheWrap, which describes the Power Rangers reboot as a “reinvention” of the 30-year-old franchise. Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, showrunners of Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, will write and serve as producers and showrunners of the first new Power Rangers show since Netflix’s Power Rangers Cosmic Fury in 2023.

Hasbro said the company was “investing in unlocking Power Rangers‘ full potential” when it acquired Saban’s Power Rangers and other assets in a $522 million deal in 2018.

A new Power Rangers series was first announced in 2022 with Jenny Klein (Daisy & the Six) set to serve as showrunner for Power Rangers Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury network Netflix, which also released Hasbro and eOne’s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always movie commemorating the series’ 30th anniversary in 2023.

But in 2024, it was reported that the series Klein was developing with Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World, I Am Not Okay With This) — who was tapped to oversee the Power Rangers Cinematic Universe in 2021 — was no longer moving forward at Netflix. Reports at the time said Hasbro was pursuing “a new creative direction” with a new partner for the series, which has since landed at Disney-owned 20th Television.

Entwistle’s Netflix-based PRCU was to span multiple series and movies for the streamer, including the 1990s-set feature film reboot that Entwistle was to direct for Paramount Pictures. It would have been the first Power Rangers film to hit theaters since Lionsgate tried rebooting the franchise for the big screen in 2017.

Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, about the adventures of a group of ordinary teens who morph into superheroes and save the world from evil, quickly became a pop culture phenomenon. Power Rangers is one of the longest running kids’ live-action series in television history with nearly 1,000 episodes produced to date.

The earliest iterations of Power Rangers — including the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993), Power Rangers Zeo (1996), and Power Rangers Turbo (1997) — aired on Saban’s Fox Kids Network. The Walt Disney Company acquired Saban Entertainment and Power Rangers in a $5.3 billion deal for Fox Family Worldwide 2001, and Disney’s kids’ networks aired Disney-produced Power Rangers series like Power Rangers Wild Force (2002), Power Rangers S.P.D. (2005), and Power Rangers RPM (2009) before Saban re-acquired the Power Rangers franchise rights in a $43 million purchase in 2010.

It looks like there is a release date in sight for Legend of the White Dragon, as a new update gives a timetable for completing the film and taking it to distributors. Before his passing, Power Rangers legend Jason David Frank was incredibly passionate about making Legend of the White Dragon a reality, and since then Bat in the Sun has been steadily making progress on bringing the film to completion. The new update comes from Executive Producer Chris Jay, who reveals that the film is now picture-locked and on its way to completion.

In a Facebook post, Jay revealed that Legend of the White Dragon is now officially picture-locked, meaning that this is the complete version of the film and it won’t receive any additional changes or adjustments. The only things left to complete are color correction and sound mixing, and those are now in the hands of third parties they are working with.

That process should take about 3 months, and those will need to be finished before talking to potential distributors. That means we’re likely looking at a June completion date, and that’s when an actual release date, either theatrical or on home video, should become clearer. Jay did ask for Kickstarter backers to update their addresses for the physical release as it gets closer to time. You can find the full post below.

“Hey Everyone, Great news… LOTWD is now officially picture locked!! This means that we have a final and complete version of the film, that will not receive any further adjustments, additions or changes.

The remaining touches for color correction and sound mixing (like 7.1 Surround) now lie with the third parties we are working with. In short, we are at the final stages of preparation for release (whether that’s theatrical or home theatre).

This final process should take around three months, during which we will continue to bring you updates. Having discussed it with our professional contacts, we need the color correction and sound mixing to be completed prior to talking to potential distributors.

We will ask Kickstarters to update their addresses for the physical release when we are closer to the release date. Thanks again for all the positive comments recently – as always your patience is greatly appreciated. Chris Jay. Executive Producer – LOTWD”

In an official press release, it was revealed that Legend of the White Dragon would be aiming for a theatrical release, and the team was working hard to complete the film and bring Frank’s vision to life.

“When Jason David Frank tragically took his own life late last year, it became the filmmaker’s mission to honor his legacy by completing the film the way Frank envisioned it. Frank was a beloved actor who still has a great emotional impact on fans around the world. He was a world-renowned and acclaimed martial artist, who brought the same passion to his performances on the screen. In this film, Jason David Frank plays Erik Reed, a complex character that really allowed him to showcase his incredible range as an actor,” the release stated.

“We are proud to have worked with such a talented actor, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share his final performance with the world,” said filmmaker and co-star Aaron Schoenke. “Having been on this journey with Jason for 10 years, I know he would be beyond excited to know that Legend of the White Dragon will be opening in theaters.”

Legend of the White Dragon doesn’t currently have a release date, but we’ll keep you posted as more information is released.

Power Rangers has been around for over 30 years now, and a new documentary series will look to spotlight some of the tragic and dark moments from the franchise’s history. Investigation Discovery will be streaming six new feature documentaries on Max later this month, and these documentaries will be focusing on Hollywood, as the theme will be Hollywood Demons. One of those documentaries will focus on the Power Rangers franchise, and you can get a sense of the documentary in the trailer below.

After a general introduction, the trailer shifts focus to footage of the man who was arrested in 2017 for bringing weapons into Phoenix Comicon in an attempt to hurt or kill franchise star Jason David Frank. The man responsible was arrested and sentenced to 25 years on charges of attempted first-degree murder and attempted aggravated assault and is serving that sentence in a state hospital.

The footage then moves to another tragic story, showing evidence photos of the sword that was used in a fatal stabbing. Ricardo Medina Jr. played the Red Lion Wild Force Ranger in Power Rangers Wild Force, but in 2015 he was sentenced to six years in state prison for voluntary manslaughter after stabbing his roommate with a sword.

The footage then moves to Jason David Frank, who tragically died of suicide in 2022. Frank was beloved around the world, not just because of his roles in the franchise, but also because of how he interacted with fans in an ambassador-like role for the franchise. This is likely going to be the most difficult part of the documentary, and hopefully, it’s handled with care.

The other documentaries will deal with topics like Celebrity Stalking, the real story behind the Iron Claw film, violent child stars, 7th Heaven, and The Real Housewives. Hollywood Demons will stream on Max on March 24th.

The anime world would not be what it is without the hard work and dedication of its voice actors, with Dave Mallow being a prime example of what helped make the medium work so well. It is with heavy hearts that we report that Mallow has passed away at the age of 76, initially reported by fellow voice actor Dorothy Fahn. Known for playing major roles in anime franchises such as Digimon, Hunter x Hunter, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, The Seven Deadly Sins, and more, Mallow’s influence on the entertainment world won’t soon be forgotten as fans and creators alike gather to pay tribute.

For those who need a breakdown of Mallow’s career, he first got into the voice acting game in 1984, becoming a fixture not only in the anime world but video games and live-action series alike. For Power Rangers specifically, Dave lent his voice to the villain “Baboo,” an underling of Rita Repulsa who would play a big role in the series as the main antagonist’s comic relief for quite some time. Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and many of its follow-up series would routinely splice new Western footage with original Japanese series, with Baboo being a prime example of how these two worlds would meet as various actors would help bring the role to life. When it came to the world of Digimon, Mallow took on the roles of characters including Angemon, Nanimon, Vilemon, Gekomon, Togemon, and many more. Mallow also had roles in video game franchises including Street Fighter’s Akuma, Samurai Warriors’ Ieyasu Tokugawa, Klonoa’s Joker, World of Warcraft’s Meathook, and more.

Dave Mallow’s Departure

Dorothy Fahn, a fellow voice actor who held major roles in franchises including Digimon, The Seven Deadly Sins, and more, shared the terrible news that Mallow had passed via her social media. Here’s what Fahn had to say when reporting that Dave Mallow had passed at the age of 76, “Just found out our old voice over friend Dave Mallow has passed away at age 76. We knew him since ‘Honeybee Hutch’ May he rest in peace.”

Mallow, according to outlet TMZ, had been residing at MonteCedro Senior Living Community in California in hospice care, having struggled with health issues in recent years. The entertainment publication also received comments from Digimon voice actor Joshua Seth, who stated that Mallow played a heavy hand in helping his own career. Seth hopes that fans and creators alike will remember Dave Mallow as one of the voice actors that helped in pushing the anime medium in North America.

Our thoughts are with Dave Mallow’s friends and family during this difficult time.

Playmates Toys pulled the curtain back on its anticipated Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Re-Ignition line of toys at Toy Fair, but now we finally have the first image of the collector’s line of figures in (seemingly) the 6-inch scale teased in that first silhouette. Playmates Toys revealed the full wave of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers figures, which will replace the previous Lightning Collection from Hasbro, and you can check out the figures in the image below.

As previously teased, the lineup includes the main five Rangers and their legendary sixth Ranger, featuring the Red Ranger, Pink Ranger, Black Ranger, Blue Ranger, Yellow Ranger, and Green Ranger. We don’t have the exact count of articulation points yet, but from what can be seen in the image, there seem to be the expected articulation points at the shoulder, elbow, wrist, neck, waist, hips, knees, and ankle.

It’s hard to tell regarding the torso, but there don’t seem to be any cuts there, so any ab crunch seems out of the running. Each of the figures will come with their trademark weapon and a blade blaster, as well as holsters at their side for the blasters.

We also don’t know if they will come with any additional accessories like an alternate head sculpt. The Lightning Collection featured an alternate head sculpt based on the actors from the show in each release, so we’ll just have to wait and see what will all be included when packaging shots are eventually revealed.

Thanks to RangerBoard we did also get a look at the new Power Morpher toy (which you can see here). As previously revealed in the description, it will include all five Power Coins as well as 40 sounds and phrases, which will include the iconic “It’s Morphin Time”. The Morpher is for ages 4 and up and will retail for $16.99. You can find the full wave of initial releases (aside from the collector’s line) below.

Auto-Morphin Figures – With a simple press of the lever, each Power Ranger morphs from its teenage self to its Mighty Power Ranger hero! Collect all of the Power Ranger characters! $9.99

Combinable Dinozords – As the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers summon the spirits of their mighty Dinozords, they can take on Rita’s giant alien monsters and come together to form the Megazord! This incredible combination comes to life when you collect each of the five Power Ranger Dinozords and combine them to build the Battle Ready Megazord in two modes: Tank Mode and Fighting Mode! $17.99

Power Morpher – Every Power Ranger needs their Power Morpher to summon the spirits of their Dinozord and become the alien fighting heroes that are the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! This Power Morpher comes with all five of the Power Ranger Power Coins and has over 40 sounds and phrases! The Power Morpher recognizes each coin and unlocks each of those Dinozord custom phrases and sounds! $16.99

Blade Blaster – When it’s time to take on Rita and her Evil Aliens, you need the Power Ranger Blade Blaster! Two weapons in one, the Blade Blaster starts as the Power Ranger Blaster and then morphs into the extended Sword that can be used in any battle. The Blade Blaster comes with over 20 sounds and phrases and includes lights with every blast! Power Rangers, Blade Blasters up! $19.99

Power Rangers 2017 Reboot, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Power Rangers fans are in a waiting period to see what happens next with the franchise on the big screen, and the good news is that there is something reportedly in the works for that at Paramount. Until more information is learned though, there’s not much happening on that front, but there is a Power Rangers movie heading to Netflix in just around a week. The 2017 Power Rangers reboot will be streaming on Netflix on March 6th, so fans can check out the divisive film and see if their opinion has changed since their last rewatch of it.

The 2017 reboot was supposed to usher in a new era for the franchise, and while there was buzz behind the release, it wasn’t able to pick up much steam in terms of box office. Power Rangers cost $100 million to make and was only able to bring in $85,264,450 million domestically, with an international total of $56,972,240 million. In total the film made $142,337,240 million, so it didn’t exactly set the box office on fire.

The film was divisive amongst viewers as well. The film holds a 51% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes amongst critics, though it does sport a higher Popcornmeter score of 65% amongst fans. The film did feature a small cameo from Amy Jo Johnson and Jason David Frank towards the end, and there was a tease of an introduction for the Green Ranger for the planned sequel, though that never materialized.

I quite enjoyed the film, though it had issues, especially in terms of its pacing and approach to the villains, but the actual Rangers themselves were fantastic. If you look at the cast Lionsgate assembled for it, it’s a star-studded affair, and they even had Elizabeth Banks for the villain, which should have been gold. Unfortunately, several choices held it back from being the mainstream juggernaut the franchise clearly hoped it would be, and that led to a full change in approach for the franchise that was supposed to connect Movies and TV.

Unfortunately, that didn’t materialize either, as it was just recently confirmed those plans (which involved Netflix) have been scrapped. Now the focus is on Paramount’s plans for the franchise, which will likely be a full reboot. While we wait on more details for that reboot, there was a point where a sequel seemed possible to the 2017 reboot. In an interview with TV Insider, Blue Ranger star RJ Cyler was asked what he would love to see in a sequel to the film, and he revealed several elements and characters he hoped would get a bigger spotlight in a sequel.

“I want to see the growth Jason has with his pa,” Cyler said. “In our movie, they had the father-parent relationship like Mufasa and Simba… I want to see how deep in forgiveness and understanding both of them get with each other. They softened in the last movie, but I want to see how their relationship evolves. I also want to see more of the Trini character because there were a lot of good nuggets of who Trini is and how she could potentially be a part of the LGBT community. I want to see the development of that. Fan’s lives can change with that.”

“Also, with Billy the possibilities of being a superhero on the autism spectrum. I recently went to Power Morphicon,” Cyler said. “I never felt so much love from such a big crowd of people. Talking to each of them, whether they are on the spectrum or not, Billy related to them on some level. I want to continue to give that. I want to continue to give that person that makes them feel comfortable or find something in common. It gives them freedom of mind to chase what they want to chase.”

Go! Go! Loser Ranger is preparing to once again take the anime world by storm as its second season will arrive this April on the small screen. With the manga releasing new chapters to this day since starting in 2021, creator Negi Haruba has been steering the ship for the dark take on the Sentai medium. Unfortunately, Haruba himself is taking a break from the manga as the series has announced that Go! Go! Loser Ranger will be missing some chapter release dates due to the manga creator’s “poor health.”

The official statement from the Go! Go! Loser Ranger social media account shared the bad news, “Sentai Daishikkaku” was scheduled to resume in the 12th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, released today, but due to Haruba-sensei’s poor health, this week’s issue will also be on hiatus. In addition, the next issue, Weekly Shonen Magazine No. 13, will also be on hiatus for the same reason. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.” Luckily for fans of the series, Haruba’s health won’t keep the artist down for long as Kodansha already has a return date for the manga.

The social media account for the critically acclaimed anime franchise also shared an update on the creator’s health to alleviate concerns, “Haruba-sensei’s health is currently improving, and he is scheduled to resume writing in the 14th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine, which will be released on Wednesday, March 5th. We appreciate your continued support for “Sentai Daishikkaku.”

Health concerns in the manga industry are far too common and it’s an issue that we have reported on quite a bit in the past here at ComicBook.com. The creators of Hunter x Hunter, My Hero Academia, Berserk, and countless others have given their all to their stories, sometimes resulting in devastating circumstances. With many manga releasing on weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedules, the industry can be an exceptionally demanding one and we are hoping that Haruba has a quick recovery from his current health issues.

Loser Ranger Season 2 Details

Go! Go! Loser Ranger’s second anime season is set to arrive on April 13th this spring in Japan. With Footsoldier D still attempting to take down the Divine Dragon Rangers, he has made some serious gains in terms of embedding himself within the organization. However, his journey is about to have some serious bumps in the road on the way. The second season will once again be an exclusive for Hulu later this spring here in North America.

In a recent interview, the anime’s director Keiichi Sato stated that dark series known as The Boys did have an inspiration on this twisted take on the Sentai medium, “There are many anti-hero works in Japan and overseas, including [the] overseas drama The Boys. Among them, [Go! Go! Loser Ranger!], in which the main character from the bad side confronts a hero of justice with a hidden dark side, has similarities to The Boys, and the story develops in an unexpected direction, which is similar to foreign dramas. I had a similar image. So, if I were to make an anime about [Go! Go! Loser Ranger!], I wanted the overall tone to be similar to a foreign drama.”

Funko's Jumbo Chan Power Rangers Green Ranger Vinyl Collectible

Funko is no stranger to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, as we’ve seen several Pops over the years based on the characters from the show and the comics, as well as the 2017 movie. That said, I don’t think any of those hold a candle to the newest Power Rangers Funko creation, which is the adorable 14′ vinyl figure based on the Green Ranger. The new figure is part of Funko’s Jumbo Chan line, and as you can see below, this is one insanely cool-looking Green Ranger. This is also pretty limited at only 1,200 produced, which means it’s also pricey at $250. You can check out the new figure in the images below.

The Jumbo Chan line embraces the nostalgia and style of beloved franchises, and that is pretty clear when looking at the Green Ranger. The greens, whites, and golds just pop in the photos, and while the styling is clean and uncluttered, there are still impressive details around the mask, on the morpher, and on the Dragon Dagger.

One of my favorite aspects though is how they handled the helmet, specifically the eyes behind the visor. You can actually see the eyes through the visor, presenting some unique personality that we don’t often get from Power Rangers collectibles unless we get alternate head sculpts.

The Jumbo Chan Green Ranger will launch tomorrow on February 20th at 12:30 PM, so if you want one at the specified time you can head right here. In the meantime you can check out all of the photos of the Green Ranger above, and you can find the official description below.

Jumbo Chan Green Ranger 14” Vinyl Collectible $250 – Born of Funko’s reverence and passion for retro Japanese toys, Jumbo Chan is designed to emulate the charm and vibrance of iconic characters that have inspired so many of our artists. This new collection merges feel-good nostalgia and sleek stylization of beloved licenses from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s.

Jumbo Chan collectibles feature exuberant expressions and vibrant colors as an ode to the original art, design, and stories of each character. Details in the sculptures mimic the joints of robotic and mecha heroes, an homage to the innovative, articulated toys. The packaging features bold lettering, burst icons, and full front-panel art.

Jumbo Chan Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Green Ranger wields his Dragon Dagger and wears a suit of green with gold metallic details. Will he summon Dragonzord, or is he prepared to join other Power Rangers in the fight against evil? Either way, this legendary character is sure to bring adventure and excitement as a premium vinyl figure for your collection.

Collectible Details:

Limited edition, only 1,200 produced.

14-inch-tall collectible.

Material: hard vinyl.

Includes a certificate of authenticity.

Collector’s box with eye-catching, full front-panel art.

Playmates Toys and Hasbro got Power Rangers buzzing with the first image from their upcoming Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toy line Re-Ignition last week, but now Playmates has released a new teaser that shows us who is likely going to be included in the first wave. Playmates released a new teaser video on social media, and it showcases the six silhouette of the first figures. Those silhouettes are pretty iconic, so unless there’s a major curveball here, Playmates has now revealed the first line of figures will feature the entire Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team.

From left to right, the lineup is Mighty Morphin’s Pink Ranger, Black Ranger, Red Ranger, Green Ranger, Blue Ranger, and Yellow Ranger. The weapons are the biggest indicators, as you can see the Power Bow, Power Axe, Power Sword, Power Lance, and Power Daggers pretty clearly. The Dragon Dagger is a bit tougher to make out, but coupled with the helmet and the fact that the other five are so recognizable it makes the most sense.

While the figures are all blacked out, the stances seem to indicate a similar approach to the company’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line. There seems to be similar articulation, and it’s nice to see the holsters equipped with blade blasters at their side.

It is interesting to see all six Mighty Morphin Rangers revealed all at once, and that’s especially true if they are all available in the very first wave. Hasbro’s approach with the Lightning Collection was to feature one or two Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ characters in each wave and couple those with Rangers or villains from other teams. If Playmates is rolling with the big six right out of the gate, perhaps that means we’ll see different variants and versions of those core Rangers in future waves to accompany lesser-known characters as opposed to holding back the main Mighty Morphin team.

The Lightning Collection ended up featuring 15 waves of 6-inch figures as well as additional two-packs, deluxe monsters, and exclusives. The final figures were released in 2023, so with Playmates’ Power Rangers toy line hitting later this year, it will have been 2 years or so since Power Rangers toys were readily available on store shelves.

In the original announcement, Playmates’ SVP of Marketing Karl Aaronian said, “We are honored to work with Hasbro on the reimagination of this iconic franchise’s toy line for long time fans and a new generation of children. Playmates and Hasbro speak the same toy language and share a passion for POWER RANGERS, a multi-generational phenomenon that has stood the test of time.

Power Rangers fans just got a major streaming surprise completely for free as it’s now easier to watch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie than ever before. The Power Rangers franchise has gone dormant following its celebration of the 30th anniversary for the TV series, and it all came to an end without any kind of new project on the horizon. But like the last time the Power Rangers franchise had gone inactive after a series finale, fans are now using this time to instead go back and celebrate some of the biggest and brightest releases from the series’ over 30 year history.

Now it’s easier to do so than ever before as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is now streaming completely for free with Tubi. This is the best streaming option for the classic 1995 movie than there ever has been, and Tubi is actually a pretty great streaming service for Power Rangers fans overall. With the addition of this movie to the platform, it now joins multiple seasons of the TV series, and even multiple seasons of the original Super Sentai franchise that inspired it in the first place.

20th Century Fox

What Is MMPR: The Movie?

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was a real game changer for the Power Rangers‘ franchise history. Power Rangers was already a successful TV series, but the feature film really helped to put the franchise on the map in a whole different kind of way. The series then continued with a full third season with even more changes to its characters, but then the Power Rangers franchise rebooted itself several different times with new casts, characters, ideas, and even timelines in the year since. This is where it truly became a fully multimedia franchise that people would pay attention to.

It was an entirely original story as well. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie might be inspired and even feature some of the same characters from the original TV series, it focuses on a brand new villain named Ivan Ooze who comes the closest to fully destroying Angel Grove in the series’ history too. It was meant as a way for all kinds of fans to be introduced to the franchise, and still remains one of the most impactful releases for the Power Rangers series to this day.

20th Century Fox

What’s Next for Power Rangers?

As of the time of this publication, unfortunately there is no sign of a new TV or movie project in sight for Power Rangers. While a new toy line from Playmates is currently in the works for a release in the near future, the actual Power Rangers TV or film series is currently dormant. There was news of a potential new movie reboot being in the works late last year, but nothing of real substance has been revealed outside of the initial rumors that Paramount might have been fast tracking the idea.

If a new movie does eventually make its way to screens, it might just be another take on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as seen with Power Rangers in 2017. The film didn’t quite land with audiences, but the original Mighty Morphin brand remains the strongest in Power Rangers overall. If there’s any chance of a reboot, and any chance of it being a success, then a reboot of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series is probably the way to go despite dedicated fans saying otherwise. For a good example as to why, go back and check out this movie now streaming for free with Tubi.

Power Rangers from all eras appear in Eternal Rangers Kickstarter

Power Rangers and Renegade Game Studios launched Heroes of the Grid on Kickstarter back in 2018, and in the years since it’s become one of the most comprehensive Power Rangers games ever made. Regardless of whichever era you call your favorite, there’s likely something from that era in Heroes of the Grid, but everything has to end at some point, and now the final campaign for the game has arrived in Power Rangers: Eternal Rangers. The new Kickstarter campaign (which you can find right here) for the final entry in the franchise has already hit its funding goal and has soared past several stretch goals, with more milestones on the horizon, but if you haven’t made the jump, we’ve got you covered on the extensive details.

Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid is a cooperative board game that has players taking on their favorite Rangers and taking on the evil forces looking to take the world for themselves. In Eternal Rangers, fans not only get even more Ranger teams and villains, but they also get the ability to create even more characters for the game all on their own thanks to templates and designer Jonathan Ying’s own designer journal to work from.

The Eternal Alliance Pledge will get you the Eternal Rangers Box, the Player’s Compendium, templates for fan-made custom Rangers, Jonathan Ying’s Designer Journal, and all unlocked Stretch Goals. That said, the real stars of the show for me are the Rangers included in the core box, as they are none other than the Mystic Force Rangers. You will get Mystic Green, Pink, Blue, Red, and Yellow, as well as the Black Ninja Ranger, Turbo Blue Ranger, and perhaps the coolest addition, the Cosmic Fury Zenith Ranger.

eaf7d39b52a24524480db687786f8e3d84f4ec3684508ed9b70e704d8918aec8

They will need someone to fight of course, and you’ll get a host of big villains for that purpose. That includes Master Zedd, Final Version Drakkon, the Death Ranger, Evil Dino Fury Blue Ranger, Emperor Grumm, Poisandra, Madame Odius, Vypra,Nadira, and Zurgane. The box then includes 10 character cards, 90 combat cards, 15 Zord cards, 19 Megazord cards, 90 enemy cards, and 10 scheme cards.

Stretch goals unlocked include vintage promo card sets for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Forever Green Ranger, Forever Yellow Ranger, and Forever Black Ranger. An Escalation promo set was also unlocked, as well as a Rangers STL bundle and upgrades to the Compendium. The coolest stretch goal however is the Omega Blue Ranger miniature and card that makes him fully playable, which is a must if you’re a fan of the Omega Rangers. Right now, there’s also a stretch goal for a Solar Ranger promo card set, which will unlock at $200,000. Cast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

The status of the Power Rangers franchise has been a bit murky over the past year, but it seems to be ramping up again, and now we have a tease of the long-awaited return of the toy line. As announced last year, Hasbro will no longer be handling the production of Power Rangers toys, as Playmates Toys will be taking over and introducing a new toy line later this year. Not much has been said about that toy line in the months since, but more details are incoming it seems, as now Playmates has revealed the name of the new line will be Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Re-Ignition and teased more details to come.

The official Power Rangers account and the Playmates Toys account teamed up for a new post, revealing the logo for the toy line and then adding the caption, “Get ready for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers RE-IGNITION with a new morphinominal collection. Stay tuned for more…”

The previous Power Rangers toy collection was known as the Lightning Collection, and while it was cut short, it would still deliver 15 main waves of 6-inch figures as well as a variety of two-packs, deluxe monsters, and exclusives. The final figures were released in 2023, so Power Rangers was pretty much absent from pegs throughout 2024, but that is thankfully going to change sometime in 2025.

It is expected that more information and perhaps even the first in-person reveals will be revealed at this year’s Toy Fair, which takes place form March 1st to March 4th. A tease of things starting now would make sense if Toy Fair is the big debut, and hopefully we’ll also get details of a release date for the first wave of toys from the collection there as well.

Playmates holds licensing rights to develop additional cross-category Power Rangers products that include action figures, blasters, plush, role play, vehicles, and accessories, and they will distribute across all regions except for Asia. That said, Hasbro still retains the entertainment rights to the franchise, and also will feature Power Rangers products on Hasbro Pulse and at special events like San Diego Comic-Con.

“Playmates’ ability to interpret character-based story telling in highly detailed, innovative, and affordable products has revitalized several iconic brands, they are the perfect fit to fully expand the POWER RANGERS franchise,” said Casey Collins, President of Licensed Consumer Products at Hasbro. “While we’ll continue to provide oversight and direction on future POWER RANGERS product ranges, Playmates will leverage its action figure and accessory design, development and marketing expertise to create an entirely new play and collecting experience for fans of all ages. With two powerhouse companies coming together to support a powerhouse brand, the potential is limitless!”

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is now airing its new episodes as part of the jam packed Winter 2025 anime schedule, and the Power Rangers and Super Sentai inspired series is showing off its Tokusatsu inspired opening and ending themes. The TV anime adaptation for Koyoshi Nakayoshi’s The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World was one of the most anticipated new releases of the Winter 2025 anime season, and the first episode proved why as it tossed a Red Ranger into a fantasy world ruled by magic. And things exploded to a whole new level from there.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World made an explosive debut this Winter to showcase what kind of a wild new take on the Isekai anime world it has to offer, but the second episode of the new series has finally introduced its new opening and ending theme sequences. The opening theme is titled “Cuz I,” as performed by Hikaru Makishima, and you can check out its creditless version in the video above. The ending theme is titled “Explosive Heart” as performed by Aya Uchida, and you can find it below.

What Is the New Red Ranger Isekai?

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is now airing its new episodes as part of the Winter 2025 anime schedule, and you can catch up with these new episodes streaming exclusively with Crunchyroll. But as the anime now readies to really kick off this new adventure in another world, the titular Red Ranger is starting to have an impact on the rest of the new world around him. The first episode introduced fans to Togo Asagaki, who leads his own Super Sentai squadron as Kizuna Red. He’s got access to all of the powers, tech, and abilities from all of it to boot.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World then sees Asagaki using the same techniques and abilities he used to face off against countless monsters to then become an adventurer in this new world. But in teaming up with the mysterious sorceress Idola Avom, Asagaki is now ready to fully become an adventurer in this world in the hope that she’ll be able to figure out a spell that can send him back to his original world.

Why You Should Watch Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is a perfect kind of watch for Tokusatsu fans. While it’s an Isekai anime as seen in many other releases that fans can watch every season, it’s gotten a big twist as to what to expect as it’s not exactly changing Asagaki’s abilities. Rather than give him a boost with this new magic based world as seen in other series, it seems like this fantasy world will instead by greatly influenced by the Red Ranger as he fights his way to victory.

This should also sound familiar to anyone who has seen Power Rangers, Super Sentai, or other Tokusatsu franchises as the Rangers are always uniting their faith in one another to overcome stronger foes. It’s the same case here as Asagaki is now influencing the fantasy world with his own power, and will likely showcase even more of the power of Tokusatsu as the anime continues. As The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World continues through its debut season this Winter, we’re going to see even more of all of this wackiness in action in the coming episodes.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers artwork by Carlos Dattoli, Green Ranger, Red Ranger, Black Ranger, and Blue Ranger

Fans of Power Rangers will always look at the date of June 30th, 1995 rather fondly, as it was the day that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie brought the franchise to the big screen. It’s held a special place in fan’s hearts ever since, and Power Rangers artist Carlos Dattoli just gave the film a modern-day reimagining that every franchise fan needs to see. As a huge fan of MMPR, Dattoli wanted to give the Power Rangers movie suits a redesign, but decided to go even bigger, delivering slick new designs for all their Zords as well as the film’s villains. The reimagined movie poster looks amazing, and you can check it out below, but Dattoli decided to deliver one more version of the poster for Green Ranger fans.

The original version of the poster features the entire movie crew of Rangers, with the White Ranger front and center alongside the Black Ranger, Red Ranger, Pink Ranger, Blue Ranger, and Yellow Ranger. The Rangers’ Zords, including a new and improved version of the Tigerzord, are all featured below the Ranger portraits, and on the top are reimagined designs for Ivan Ooze, Rita Repulsa, and Goldar.

In the alternate version, Dattoli switches out the White Ranger and brings in a slick new version of the Green Ranger, placing him in the center. That means that Tommy (who is also the White Ranger of course) needs his trusty Zord in the mix too, and so you see that the Dragonzord is now included with the other Zords towards the bottom of the poster. You can check out the alternate version of the poster below as well.

On Instagram Dattoli shared the original artwork, writing, “Hey guys! So, as you know, I love MMPR! and I’ve been wanting to do a new redesign of the suits for a while, but I didn’t want it to be just the suits alone, and instead, give it a full approach, so I decided to make this “fan Movie Poster”, and include some of the most iconic elements in there, such as the Zords and some enemies, and as inspiration, I used the awesome 90s Movie Poster, with what I think, is an update for the current times, or at least, what I would like to see in a new adaptation, and of course, always keeping the essence of the characters, (which is what made me love them in the first place), but for a more mature audience. Hope you enjoy it, as much as I did creating it! Go Go Power Rangers! (I will be posting more individual shots of the suits later on)”

With the alternate version, Dattoli added the caption, “Hey! Here is an Alternative version of the Poster, portraying the all time favorite ranger, the Green Ranger and his powerful Dragonzord! Hope you like it!”

Fans can watch the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie on Netflix, along with the final show seasons of the previous era in Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury. You can also find the 30th Anniversary Special Once & Always on Netflix as well. What you won’t find on Netflix is the previously in development new universe that was set to include a connected TV series and feature film, as development was ended on that project last year.

The good news is that evidently Paramount is fast tracking a new Power Rangers project according to recent reports, so perhaps we’ll get another trip to the big screen for the franchise, which would be the first since the Power Rangers reboot film in 2017.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World was one of the major standout new releases of the Winter 2025 anime schedule, and the first episode of the new series has proven why with its own anime take on the Power Rangers‘ famous Megazord. Koyoshi Nakayoshi’s The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World has been running with Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine since 2020, but now the series is about to find a whole new group of fans with the debut of its new anime. Crossing over multiple worlds in fun new ways, this new series throws a Red Ranger into a traditional fantasy anime world.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World takes inspiration from Super Sentai (the franchise in Japan that inspires Power Rangers) and imagines what it would look like if a Red Ranger with all of the skills, technology, and abilities of these Super Sentai squads had been sent to a new fantasy world following the final fight against a big villain. Helping to kick things off is the debut of their own Megazord, and it’s just as wild as you would hope from a Super Sentai franchise.

What Is This New Anime Megazord?

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World introduces fans to the multi-colored team of the Kizuna Five. These are five heroes that have been fighting against the Breakup King and his army of monsters that seek to break up the bonds holding humanity together. In the opening minutes of the new anime’s premiere, fans get to see this super team in action as they take on the Breakup King for their final fight. It’s here that they summon their own Megazord, Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, which combines their five animal inspired mechas together into one large machine.

It’s following this fight that the Red Ranger, Togo Asagaki, is transported into a new world. Becoming an adventurer with the intent of trying to find a way back home after saving this new world from their own respective troubles, the Red Ranger has come with all of the access to his transformations, weapons, and even the Megazord. So he’s already shaking up this new world filled with magic in wild new ways with the kinds of Super Sentai vigor that Tokusatsu fans are all too familiar with.

What Is This New Power Rangers Isekai Anime?

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is now streaming its new episodes as part of the ongoing Winter 2025 anime schedule. Keiichiro Kawaguchi is directing the new anime for Satelight with Atsuhiro Tomioka overseeing its script composition. Shuji Maruyama is designing the characters, and Koichio Kameyama is composing the music. At the center of the series are Tomoya Ito as Togo Asagaki (aka Kizuna Red) and Konomi Inagaki as Idola Avom, the fantasy world mage that gets wrapped up in all sorts of Tokosatsu wildness.

If you wanted to check out the latest episodes as they air in Japan, you can now find the series exclusively streaming with Crunchyroll. They tease what to expect from The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World as such, “Togo Asagaki was the Red Ranger in a heroic Ranger squad. During their final battle against an evil organization, he gave his life to guarantee their triumph. But fate had other plans, and he found himself reborn in an entirely different world. Embracing his new role as an adventurer, he transforms into Kizuna Red and continues his pursuit of justice, helping those in need.”

It wasn’t all that long ago that Power Rangers was on the verge of an interconnected franchise that spanned film and TV, which Hasbro was developing with Netflix and Paramount. Unfortunately after quite a while with not much in the way of news, that franchise reboot never materialized, but that may not be the case any longer. A report from Daniel Richtman has stated that a new movie seems to be in early development at Paramount, and while not much is known as far as story goes, another report from @Jinsakuu states it is a complete reboot and not tied to the previous Netflix project at all.

@Jinsakuu offered up a few additional details, and here’s where it gets more complex. Hasbro and Paramount have reportedly been in negotiations for a few months and have evidently made some substantial progress in those discussions. If things pan out as hoped, Paramount and Skydance will retain the media rights for Power Rangers and are moving fast on developing the new film.

It is noted that a buyout of the property was discussed and both companies remain open to the option, but it will come down to the right price to make that happen. At the moment though, both parties are working together on the film, and it is slated to be a theatrical release. Sources are saying late 2026 for the release, and the studio is aware of what happened with the 2017 reboot, so they are being cautious and attempting to pick the best release date possible before an official announcement.

There are no story details, and no information is yet available on whether or not this will be a reboot of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers specifically or if they will blend elements from other stories and teams in the franchise. Mighty Morphin does seem like the most obvious choice, but we’ll just have to wait and see. This does however tie into a previous statement from Hasbro President Olivier Dumont about the brand, so perhaps this is the “exciting plans” he was referring to.

It is interesting to see a Power Rangers movie being fast tracked by Paramount, which does show that it is motivated to invest in another potential major franchise. Hasbro has had a number of changes in regards to how it finances its film projects, and Power Rangers specifically has had a rollercoaster ride since its initial purchase by Hasbro.

Hasbro had mostly paused things on the franchise front after the 30th anniversary, which saw the release of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury and the 30th Anniversary special Once & Always. Since then Hasbro hadn’t announced anything outside of Netflix’s in-development universe, even pausing the Lightning Collection and most other toy releases.

This year Hasbro also announced that starting in 2025 Playmates Toys would be taking on the Power Rangers license, and hopefully we’ll get some official reveals for the upcoming toy line in 2025.

“We are honored to work with Hasbro on the reimagination of this iconic franchise’s toy line for long time fans and a new generation of children. Playmates and Hasbro speak the same toy language and share a passion for POWER RANGERS, a multi-generational phenomenon that has stood the test of time,” said Karl Aaronian, Playmates’ SVP of Marketing.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World

The isekai sub-genre of anime – which involves someone figuring out life after being transported to another world –  has always had its audience. Still, it’s noticeably grown in popularity in the past few years. The success of series like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, The Rising of the Shield Hero, and more has pushed isekai into more mainstream avenues and brought more fans to appreciate it. In addition, the goodwill that those series earned with the fanbase likely gave Isekai more wiggle room to embrace the tone and creativity it’s known for, with its unique premises and lengthy titles. While isekai has seen its shining moment, there’s also been an uptick in anime that pulls from the popular tokusatsu genre in properties like Go! Go! Loser Ranger!

These two formerly niche corners of the anime medium are now coming together for a forthcoming series, The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World, which Torajiro Nakayoshi created. As the title would suggest, the story follows a character named Tōgo Asagaki from modern-day Earth who can utilize the powers and abilities of Kizuna Red, essentially the red Power Ranger. One day, he gets teleported to another world where magic, knights, and royalty all exist, and everyone is as confused by his science as he is by their magic. If you’re a fan of anime and the Power Rangers franchise, this series is for you. A new trailer and key visual have been released in anticipation of the series premiere.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World Trailer and Visual

The trailer for The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World shows clips of the main character, Tōgo, going on adventures with a sorcerer, elves, and, yes, a Megazord, and goes on to introduce members of the supporting cast. According to Natalie, the series’ cast will include:

  • Haruka Shiraishi as Rania
  • Shin Furukawa as Azir Anuma Kukja
  • Ryoko Shiraishi as Shaukha Shemhazar
  • Hiroyuki Yoshino as Abu Dhabi
  • Kenichi Suzumura as Vidan

It was already announced that Tōgo Asagaki will be played by Tomoya Ito. The trailer also included new music that will serve as the intro and outro for the series, respectively. The opening theme will be “Cuz I” by Makishima Teru, and the ending theme will be  “Explosive Heart” by Uchida Aya. The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World will premiere on January 12th, 2025, and the manga, which has been running since 2020, just had its eighth volume published by Square Enix.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World can be read in English on Square Enix’s Manga UP! service, which describes the series as follows:

“Asagaki Togo, the Red Ranger, is defeated by the ultimate evil organization during their final faceoff. He was sure he was about to die, but instead, he was reborn in a completely different world! There, he becomes an adventurer who helps those in need, transforms into Kizuna Red, and continues his fight for justice! Enjoy this heroic tale of a Ranger protecting another world!”

Elon Musk previously spoke of wanting to purchase Twitter, and after a rollercoaster ride of events it actually happened. That led to many things, including the rebranding of Twitter to X, and X is one of several companies Musk continues to own and run. Well, what if one of those companies was Hasbro? That’s the current topic of discussion after Musk proposed the idea on social media (via Dexerto), and the idea of Musk owning the company that includes Power Rangers, Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, G.I. Joe, and My Little Pony under its umbrella has caused fans of those franchises to understandably freak out.

Musk previously got people talking after he said his company xAI would be starting an AI game studio to “make games great again”, but this current proposal has had ripple effects through a host of franchises due to how many Hasbro currently owns.

It all started on November 22nd, when Musk responded to a tweet from Grummz that took issue with the foreword in The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons book, as it addresses some of the issues with the first iteration’s use of hurtful language, attitudes, and stereotypes. Musk made his opinion of the whole situation clear in his comment on the thread, saying that, “Nobody, and I mean nobody, gets to trash E. Gary Gygax and the geniuses who created Dungeons & Dragons.”

Then on November 27th, Dungeons & Dragons Project Lead and Wizard of the Coast Senior Designer Jason Tondro was asked about the reaction to Musk’s comments and any general blowback. Tondro wrote, “It never occurred to me I’d rouse the ire of the grognards. It’s obvious now that I look back on it, but I just don’t take those critiques seriously even now. I consider those people not worth listening to, so I didn’t anticipate their outrage.”

In response to a tweet from Ian Miles Cheong about Tondro’s quote, Musk responded by writing, “How much is Hasbro?” As you might imagine, that caused quite a stir on social media, with @antonia_paz_a sharing a burning eyes GIF with the caption, “I just hallucinated what a Elon Musk backed power rangers could look like.
AAAAH AAAAAAH AAAAAH

@SinxGod_4 wrote, “The horrifying realization that if he does this Elon will own Transformers and Power rangers That’s a horrifying reality I don’t wanna live in”, while @jorditweetedtht put it simply with a befuddled GIF, writing, “Power rangers is DONE.”. @ArtVilmundur isn’t a fan of the proposal either, writing, “I don’t want Elon’s grubby little arms anywhere near Power Rangers”.

On the Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, and G.I. Joe side of things, it isn’t gung-ho for the idea either, with @PrismaticWastes writing, “There is probably no one I’d less want to play D&D with than Elon Musk lmao”. Alec added, “EL*N STOP BUYING AND RUINING EVERYTHING CHALLENGE”, while @andrewscomet wrote, “this is the worst news ever. he would DEFINITELY ruin it”

@LatinLegacy wrote, “Man is doing side quest in an attempt to ruin as much as he can”, and @Unity07s wrote, “If Elon ruins DnD too, I’m actually going to lose my mind”. There are many more, and while Musk purchasing Hasbro could very well be just something to stir the pot, you just never know.

If you’re going to wear your holiday spirit, well there’s plenty of options there too, including BoxLunch’s holiday sweaters that include favorites like Baymax, Deadpool, Sonic, Spider-Man, and the Ewoks. Games For The Family

If you’re looking for games to play that will not only keep you entertained but also be easy to pick up for younger players, 2024 has been quite kind in that regard, and we’ve got some easy games to add to the mix. For they youngest gamers, you can’t go wrong with games like Spot It!, Sesame Street Zingo, Hello Kitty Game of Life, Bluey Keepy Uppy, Pickleball Blast, and Bluey Hide and Seek. Sesame Street Zingo has two different levels of difficulty built right in with the flip of a card, and the Cookie Monster dispenser will be a big win at the table. Likewise, Bluey Hide and Seek can be used in just about any environment, and will be a big hit with younger kids.

If you want a bit more of a challenge or want to incorporate a bigger age range, games like Monkey Palace: A Lego Board Game, Garden Heist, Wonky, Chronicles of Light: Darkness Falls, and Wicked the Game would be good fits, especially Wonky, Monkey Palace, and Chronicles of Light. These games can be scaled a bit but are out of the box rather accommodating to a wide age range, and the themes will appeal to a variety of fans. Plus, who doesn’t love to build with Legos, right?

If you have some people who want to take on something new you can have some fun with the roleplaying party game Adventure Party: The Role Playing Party, and if someone wants to learn how to play something like Disney Lorcana, the Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway is a supremely streamlined and easy way for them to get the hang of the system and see if it’s something they enjoy. You can find all of the recommendations below.

TCGs Forever

Now, if you happen to have a TCG (Trading Card Game) fan in your orbit, there are some wonderful options to jump into at the moment, and you can’t go wrong with any of them. The king of the mountain is obviously Magic the Gathering, and they have a perfect starting point for new and lapsed fans with their new Foundations set. If you are new to the TCG scene, there’s also the delightful and easy to pick up Neopets Battledome from Upper Deck, and it’s relatively simple to get started.

Those who want something with a major IP attached are in luck as well, as there are two fantastic games hitting their stride. Those would be Star Wars Unlimited and Disney Lorcana, and Star Wars Unlimited just released its third set Twilight of the Republic, which includes a stellar starter set featuring Ahsoka and General Grevious. Disney Lorcana just revealed its latest set as well with Azurite Sea, boasting characters from Rescue Rangers, Treasure Planet, and Moana.

If you prefer a game that encompasses a wealth of franchises, look no further than UniVersus, which allows you to mix and match various sets for a one of a kind fighting game experience. The latest additions include Tekken 8, Attack on Titan, Godzilla, and Star Trek Lower Decks, so if you’re looking for variety, they’ve got you covered. You can find all of the recommendations below.

Board Game and RPG Holiday

If you’re shopping for a gamer who loves jumping into bigger tabletop experiences that might take a bit more time, there’s plenty of options for them as well. If they want new twists on classic experiences, look no further than games like Catan New Energies or Talisman Alliances, though you could also jump into the returning world of Heroscape as well. Heroscape has become hotter than ever, and you can grab a Master Set or Starter Set to get everything you need to bring the larger than life experience to your table.

If you want to be immersed in something fresh and new, you can’t go wrong with games like Sand, Harmonies, Mycelia, HiFi (a game built around a record player), Queen By Midnight, Radlands, or the outstanding and quite delightful Gnome Hollow.

There are also a wealth of options from Unstable Unicorns that deliver their trademark mix of tactical gameplay and adorable visuals, and if you prefer something with a franchise you love attached, look no further than Lord of the Rings: Duel for Middle-Earth, Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz, or Star Wars: The Mandalorian Adventures. If you prefer roleplaying games, there’s a starter box for the G.I. Joe Roleplaying Game that will get you up and running quickly, and those who are already in the thick of a Power Rangers campaign can add another big sourcebook full of content to their ongoing adventure. You can find all of the recommendations below.

Kid’s Toybox

When it comes to getting the perfect present for your children to go under the Christmas tree, you can never have too many options, and hopefully we’ve done that for you with our rather varied list below. It’s hard to go wrong with plush toys for younger kids, and BumBumz Bakerbumz, Sesame Street Chicken Dance Elmo, and the Gund Disney Pooh and Piglet knit plush will make for great gift candidates. If you have a Toniebox, you can add new additions like Dr. Seuss Sam I Am Green Eggs & Ham and Blippi to your child’s regular Tonies rotation.

In the figures and dolls department, the Spidey-Rex Racer from Spidey and His Amazing Friends is likely going to be coveted by fans of the show, while Disney fans will definitely hope to see the Minnie Mouse Bow-Tel Hotel under the tree. The same goes for the Morphle Magic Pet Mobile figures and playset, and Monster High fans will assuredly want to add one of the Skulltimate Secrets figures to their collection.

DC and Star Wars fans have plenty to look forward to as well, including the Ultimate Transforming Batmobile playset, the DC Super Friends Batman Transforming Bat-Tank, and the Star Wars Darth Vader Bot. For something different, the Holobrite Pixie Lantern might be a perfect fit, or you could go with the LankyBox LankyBot RC or the Skibidi Toilet Mystery Toilet that comes with a host of smaller toys and figures inside. You can find all the recommendations below.

Collectibles, Figures, and Gear

Jumping into more of the collectibles and gear side of things, there are plenty of options this year across all genres, and that includes those who lean more towards electronics. Elgato’s Neo line features the Stream Deck and Facecam combination that looks to make your next stream setup a breeze, though both can also benefit your everyday work as well. Then there’s the Robosen Buzz Lightyear Robot, which is truly impressive and features full Bluetooth connectivity and a voice commands to bring your favorite Toy Story moments to life.

Then you can take a break from work to watch the brilliant first season of Arcane League of Legends in 4K before jumping into season 2, though if you have a fan of Monster High on the Christmas list, you can pick up the Monster High Skulltimate Secrets video game for a wonderful gift underneath the trees, and the game is available for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

If you’re into collectible figures, you have a variety of styles to choose from. For wrestling fans, Ringside Collectibles has a host of exclusive figures to add to the collection, including Toni Storm, CM Punk, Sting, and Jay White. For us ’90s fans, Mondo’s Daria and Jane set and the X-Men ’97 Cyclops figure might be right up your alley, and those who want to jump into movies and TV can add Optimus Prime, Wicked, Stranger Things, and Wednesday to the mix in a bevy of styles. Pop Mart also has their delightful Star Wars Series figures up for grabs, and Unstable Games has a number of Blind Box figures that are full of personality and won’t take up too much shelf space either. You can find all the recommendations below.

The Stylish Geek

Last but certainly not least is the fan who wants to wear their fandom on their sleeve, and in this case sometimes literally. If you’re looking for something perfect for kids, the Reebok x Blippi basketball sneaker is pretty slick and is made for toddlers. Those looking to add further style with some bright colors thrown in can pick up the Minnie Mouse Vacation Style Headband, Smurfs Smurfette Mini Backpack, or the Barbie Anniversary Wallet, and the Her Universe Star Wars Rebel Overalls should be a big hit as well.

If you’re into Wicked, you can’t go wrong with BoxLunch’s Defying Gravity shirt and Elphaba hoodie, and the Darth Vader Sith baseball journey will be an easy homerun for Christmas too. You can check out the full recommendations below.

What did you think of our list, and will you be picking up anything for the holidays? Let me know on Threads and Twitter @mattaguilarcb and on Bluesky @knightofoa!

Dandadan has been dominating the conversation among fans this Fall, but it turns out that there’s a big hook for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fans too hidden right in the English dub. Dandadan is now airing its new episodes each week, and streaming them with services such as Netflix and Crunchyroll. The series was ready for its blockbuster level debut this Fall, and this includes a ready made English dub release that’s also been available at the same time as the Japanese language release has launched as well. It’s meant that fans of both anime styles have been able to check out the new series as soon. as these new episodes hit.

If you haven’t been watching the English dub of Dandadan, then you’re missing out on one of the funniest hidden jokes in the anime. The voice cast is stacked with tons of talent, but one in particular is notable due to her connection with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The voice of Turbo Granny is provided by Barbara Goodson in the dub, and she’s likely most famous for also providing the voice for the legendary Power Rangers villain, Rita Repulsa. So Rita Repulsa was the one yelling about wanting to steal Okarun’s genitals.

Science Saru / Shueisha / Hasbro

Rita Repulsa Is Turbo Granny

Barbara Goodson has had a lengthy career in animation and anime releases outside of her time as Rita Repulsa in Power Rangers. Because while some fans might remember more for her time there, anime fans might recognize her more as the voice of Naota Nandaba in FLCL, T.K.’s Mom in Digimon, or Aiko in The Boy and the Heron. Each time her voice is recognizable, but it’s just hilarious within the wild context of Dandadan. Fans can’t help but connect Rita Repulsa with Turbo Granny especially as fans hear wilder lines from the yokai in the coming episodes.

It’s hard not to see why as Turbo Granny herself has been a wild character in the Fall 2024 anime schedule. First making her debut in the anime as a ghostly foe who stole Okarun’s genitals to curse him, she then was brought into the main cast in full after being placed within a toy cat. Now she’s going to be the point of knowledge for Momo and Okarun while also not caring whether they live or die in future episodes. It’s made for a wonderful dynamic for the characters, and Turbo Granny all the more intriguing.

Science Saru

Why Dandadan Is Such a Hit

Based on Yukinobu Tatsu’s original manga series, Dandadan has quickly become the standout anime release of the Fall and probably of the year overall. The series is only a few episodes into its debut season, but it’s already made a name for itself for its balance of tones. The series is unique in that it balances its wacky humor with tense stakes and actual consequences for the characters themselves as Momo and Okarun are constantly fighting for their lives against both ghosts and aliens.

The anime is really only getting started, however, as it might seem intense now there are tons of major moments that have yet to hit the screen. Turbo Granny herself is at the center of many of these big moments too, so fans will be able to hear her channel some of that hilarious Rita Repulsa connections as the anime continues its English dub release through the Fall. Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see what the anime has planned to showcase to fans next.

Power Rangers Prime #1 is finally here, and introduced fans of the franchise to a very different world, both for Rangers and everyone else. One of the biggest changes is that after Eltar came to Earth’s aid during an alien invasion, Eltar decided to stick around, ultimately colonizing the planet. They then hunted down the Power Rangers and removed them from the picture, though another ’90s team has stepped in to take their place. Spoilers are incoming for Power Rangers Prime #1, so if you haven’t read the issue yet you can check out our spoiler-free review right here.

An Unexpected Return

Earlier in the issue we learn about the invasion of Earth by the Beast Brigade of Gamma VII, and Earth was quickly being overwhelmed by their forces. That’s when Eltar stepped in to help, but eventually, they took over themselves, and they weren’t really fans of the Power Rangers either. In the present, the Rangers are either captured, on the run, or worse, with the issue primarily following Lauren Shiba as she tries to evade their forces.

After Lauren wakes up she meets Orion, who is the roommate of Mark, the student who found her in a dumpster and helped her avoid being found by Eltar security. Slightly before she wakes up we see the news on the TV, which shows how the VR Troopers…yes, the VR Troopers, have helped disrupt a band of mutants and secure a ski slope. You can see the image below.

Virtual Reality Troopers

For those who don’t remember, the VR Troopers were another superhero team brought to the screen by Saban Entertainment, the same company that also adapted Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. VR Troopers was adapted in the same way as Power Rangers, but used footage from different sources, pulling from Uchuu Keiji Shaider, Jikuu Senshi Spielban, and Choujinki Metalder, which were part of Toei’s Metal Hero Series. The show started in 1994 and would conclude in 1996.

The series followed three primary heroes, including Ryan Steele, JB Reese, and Kaitlin Star. They would end up encountering Professor Horatio Hart, who was a friend of Ryan’s father, and he would tell them about the secrets of the VR dimension. This dimension existed outside of our own, but there were forces in the VR dimension seeking to conquer both realms, led by the evil Grimlord.

Ryan, J.B., and Kaitlin were then recruited to fight back against Grimlord (who was masquerading in our dimension as Karl Ziktor) and protect both realms, and they were given the use of powered armor, weapons, and vehicles when they assumed their new identities. The show was quite popular even though it only ran for two seasons, only ending due to a lack of usable footage. It would then lead to the debut of Big Bad Beetleborgs, and now the question has to be could we also possibly see them make an appearance in this world? Only time will tell.

As for the VR Troopers, isn’t not quite clear who they are aligned with. The impression initially given hints that they are an approved superhero team that is allowed to work under Eltarian oversight, as it doesn’t seem like they are on the run like the Power Rangers were. This could just be where they aren’t aware of Eltar’s behind-the-scenes actions, but for now, we’ll just have to wait and see how their role plays out.

There are definitely homages to the original costumes in these versions, with Ryan’s suit being featured towards the front of the panel. Like his armor, it’s split into two different sides, though there is a big change. The original costume was split into red and blue sides, while this one is split into red and black. You can also see similarities between the other suits and their original versions, but they have more overall tweaks to the designs. You can check out the big reveal in the image above.

Go Go Loser Ranger Releases a New Trailer For Its Flashy Season 2 Debut https://comicbook.com/anime/news/go-go-loser-ranger-season-2-trailer-watch/ Fri, 08 Nov 2024 16:14:42 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=1198233 Yostar Pictures

There has yet to be an official anime adaptation that follows the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers but that hasn’t stopped Japan from creating anime projects that focus on new takes on the Sentai genre. One of the most popular and predominant examples is Go Go Loser Ranger. The series from Yostar Productions hit the scene earlier this year with a twelve-episode first season but fans won’t have to wait long to see Footsoldier D and friends making a comeback to the small screen. Go Go Loser Ranger has not only confirmed the release window for its second season but has also dropped a flashy new trailer to go along with the news.

For those who have yet to check out Go Go Loser Ranger, the first season in its entirety is available to stream on Hulu in North America. Rather than focusing on Sentai heroes who are protecting the world, the anime adaptation sees the Dragon Keepers as this universe’s Power Rangers who harbor a dark secret. Instead of fighting the “Villainous Army of Evil” for the benefit of mankind, the Dragon Keepers are instead wheeling out the henchmen and monsters of this organization in Roman gladiatorial exhibitions that see the army murdered en masse. The main protagonist of the series, Footsoldier D, has concocted a plan to get revenge on the Keepers and hopefully save his underworld allies.

Go Go Loser Ranger Season 2

Go Go Loser Ranger’s second season will arrive in April of next year, though Yostar Productions has yet to confirm the specific date. This makes for quite a quick turnaround considering it means that it will have only been around one year since season one landed. In the newly released trailer, the fight against the Red Ranger and his ilk continue as new and old characters make an appearance. For those who read the original manga from creator Negi Haruba, you know that there are some big events planned for season two.

What Makes The Loser Ranger Worth Watching

There’s any number of reasons why you should check out Go Go Loser Ranger, especially if you are a fan of all things Sentai. The concept of the anime series is one that is able to successfully turn the dynamic of “Power Rangers” on its head, presenting a story that feels far more like Amazon’s The Boys rather than the story of Zordon’s finest. The Dragon Keepers are skin crawling antagonists, especially the Red Ranger, who has an aesthetic that screams “Homelander.”

Footsoldier D makes for a worthy protagonist here, working his way undercover within the ranks of his hated enemies while trying to keep his identity a secret. It’s an insurmountable goal to take down the powerful Keepers but it is one that the unlikely protagonist has been making steps towards. Since D has been gaining more allies in his quest, season two will see him in perhaps a far better place than his initial outing.

As for an official Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers anime, there has yet to be any news on that front. The Sentai series remains a hit the world over, still producing new adventures for the Rangers long past the days when the original Power Rangers hit the scene on Fox Kids. Luckily, the original Rangers are set to return in Mighty Morpin’ Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, the latest video game that will land on December 10th next month.

Want to see what the future holds for everyone’s favorite Loser Ranger? Follow along with Team Anime on ComicBook.com for the latest updates on the Sentai world and hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics and anime.

Power Rangers fans were delighted when Digital Eclipse revealed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, and now we have a new trailer and a long awaited release date for the hotly anticipated 90s style arcade brawler. Rita’s Rewind is looking fantastic in the new footage, and now we know that it will be launching on consoles, Switch, and Steam on December 10th. Players can choose from the original five Rangers from the outset, and the Green Ranger is in the mix as well, but the trailer and a new PlayStation Blog post makes it clear that you won’t just be brawling during your time in the game.

Digital Eclipse says that about 70% of the game will feature that classic beat ’em up action, with players utilizing melee attacks and combos to make their way through waves of Putty Patrollers and Rita Repulsa’s other minions. The other 30% though will shake things up and take inspiration from some SEGA classics, including Space Harrier and Out Run.

These sequences speed up the action even more and capture the full experience of being a Power Ranger, but they also switch things up for longtime franchise fans. For example, an early sequence will have traveling through Angel Grove and learning what’s happening to the timestream thanks to Rita’s shenanigans. You’ll be battling a familiar foe in Goldar, but you’ll also encounter enemies that shouldn’t be appearing at this point in Power Rangers history.

Gameplay Switch-Up

After you face Goldar, Rita will then throw down her staff and turn Golder supersized, and as fans of the show know, this is where the Zords come in. This will happen in the game as well, as things will shift perspectives and take on full super-scaler style when the Rangers jump into their Dinozords to follow in pursuit. You’ll blast away obstacles and enemies with your Zord’s weapons as you try and catch up, drawing upon games like Galaxy Force and After Burner.

When you finally do catch up, the gameplay will switch for a third time, but this time around you’ll adopt a first person view from your Megazord as you battle the towering Goldar. Each player will get a chance to wear the boss down and contribute to the overall end goal of defeating him, and throughout the course of the game players will bounce between all three gameplay modes in a time travel adventure like no other.

In the post, Digital Eclipse Content Editor Dan Amrich revealed that their goal with Rita’s Rewind was to make a game that could have and should have existed back in the day while also taking advantage of all the knowledge players have now regarding arcade gaming.

“In fact, one of the concepts that drives a lot of what we do at Digital Eclipse is the desire to make games the way you remember them playing, even if your memories have made those experiences a little sweeter and cooler than they might have actually been back in the day. Our goal with Rita’s Rewind is to make a game that could have existed, and certainly should have existed, but probably wouldn’t have existed with all this variety in one place. Since we have the benefit of looking at arcade gaming in the rearview mirror for 30 years, we’ll take advantage of that to try to deliver something better than you would have remembered,” Amrich wrote.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind releases on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Steam, and Nintendo Switch on December 10th.

Fans of the Power Rangers franchise will see quite a bit of history represented in Heritage Auctions’ upcoming Power Rangers auction, which is scheduled to open up the bidding on October 18th. The lineup (which you can find here) is simply massive, and for the first time ever bidders will have the chance to add some of the original suits, helmets, props, and more from the series to their collections. The auction features 689 different pieces up for bid, but there is a catch for fans of the franchise. Several actors who brought those Rangers to life on the screen would love to have a chance at getting their suits from the show, as they weren’t able to take them after their shows ended. We’ve included a list below of those we know have expressed interest in bidding on their costume, as well as some of the highlights from the auction that fans will want to be aware of as well.

Mighty Morphin Fan’s Dream

If you happen to be a fan of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, you are in luck, as the auction is full of items from the series that started it all. There are costumes and props for Johnny Yong Bosch’s Black Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson’s Pink Ranger, David Yost’s Blue Ranger, Thuy Trang’s Yellow Ranger, Jason David Frank’s Green Ranger and White Ranger, as well as the standard Red Ranger suit. There are also costumes from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie, including several Ranger costumes and the Ninjetti suits.

You can also pick up several weapons and accessories like the Power Daggers, the Dragon Dagger, the Power Lance, the Power Axe, and perhaps my favorite item, Saba, which features the handle and head of everyone’s favorite talking sword. For those who want something extra unique, you can also get the Mighty Morphin Meower Rangers costumes in a bundle that features all 6 suits.

Villains are well represented as well, featuring Lord Zedd’s Z Staff, Rita Repulsa’s Scepter, Scorpina’s costume, Goldar and Finster’s Animatronic costume heads, and various versions of Putty costumes.

Before we depart Mighty Morphin, there are also several items from the reunion special Once & Always. Highlights there include the Alpha 9 costume, Robo Rita, David Yost and Walter Jones’ Ranger costumes, Blade Blasters, and Charlie Kersh’s Yellow Ranger costume.

Beyond MMPR

Heritage auctions

While MMPR is obviously well represented, it’s far from the only series in the franchise, and there are tons of other series listed in the auction. We’ve included all of the shows represented below, but some of the highlights include the Power Rangers Zeo Gold Ranger costume, several Animatronic puppets from Zeo, Divatox’s costume, In Space Galaxy Glider and Costumes, Time Force Hero Police Uniforms, Dino Thunder Weapon Sets, Dino Thunder Super Dino Mode Ranger costumes, and S.P.D’s Officer Hero Costumes and SWAT Costumes.

That’s just scratching the surface, as other highlights include the Anubis Cruger animatronic head, Dino Charge weapons, Mystic Force Udonna Costume, Ninja Steel Cosmo Royale mask, Goldar Maximus Costume, Master Zedd Hero Costume, RPM Weapons, Dino Fury costumes, Dino Fury Baby Pacha Zord, and more.

Some of the most surprising inclusions are the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation action head displays, featuring Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo, as well as Venus. Big Bad Beetleborgs is also in the mix, as well as Masked Rider and Beetleborgs Metallix. Here are all of the Ranger seasons included in the auction.

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
  • Power Rangers Zeo
  • Power Rangers Turbo
  • Power Rangers In Space
  • Power Rangers Lost Galaxy
  • Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue
  • Power Rangers Time Force
  • Power Rangers Wild Force
  • Power Rangers Ninja Storm
  • Power Rangers Dino Thunder
  • Power Rangers S.P.D.
  • Power Rangers Mystic Force
  • Power Rangers Operation Overdrive
  • Power Rangers Jungle Fury
  • Power Rangers RPM

  • Power Rangers Super Megaforce
  • Power Rangers Dino Charge
  • Power Rangers Ninja Steel
  • Power Rangers Beast Morphers
  • Power Rangers Dino Fury
  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury
  • Power Rangers Once & Always

Ranger Actors Who Hope to Bid on Their Costumes

There have been a few actors who would love to try and get ahold of the suits and props from their seasons, as they weren’t able to take them home or keep them after filming concluded. We’ve gathered the actors who are trying to bid on their suits below, as they have either publicly commented on it or have been in contact with Power Morphicon. Anyone is free to bid in the auction of course, but it would be great to see some of the costumes end up in the collections of those who helped bring them to life on screen.

That includes Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury star Hunter Deno, who has expressed hopes on X of being able to pick up her Cosmic Fury suit (and the awesome hammer that goes with it). On X Deno wrote, “I will be bidding on my suit. It’s unfortunate but of course I want it. And now I’m having to decide between my suit and my hammer because they’re being auctioned separately. So sad but if it’s my only chance, I’m gonna try.”

Actors hoping to bid on their show items include:

  • Hunter Deno – Cosmic Fury
  • Brennan Mejia – Dino Charge
  • Ciara Hanna – Megaforce
  • Tracy Lynn Cruz – In Space
  • Jessica Rey – Wild Force

What do you think about the auction and will you be bidding on anything? You can find the entire auction here, and you can talk all things Power Rangers with me on Threads and Twitter @mattaguilarcb!

BOOM! Studios will begin a bold new era of Power Rangers comics with its upcoming Power Rangers Prime, and now we’ve got our first look at the series with a full trailer and preview of Power Rangers Prime #1. Power Rangers Darkest Hour writer Melissa Flores has teamed up with artist Michael YG (Iron Fist), colorist Fabi Marques, and letterer Ed Dukeshire for a new chapter in the Power Rangers saga that is also the perfect starting point for new fans, though longtime fans will see some of their favorites in the mix as well. You can watch the full trailer in the video above, and you can get a look at what this new era holds in the preview below.

A New World

As you can see in the preview, the first character we meet is Mark Zhao, who is just taking out the trash when he discovers someone in the dumpster hiding. That person looks to be a certain Lauren Shiba of Power Rangers Samurai, but she’s in pretty bad shape and asks for help, and Mark shuts the door when some soldiers approach. After getting them to leave there are two prevailing questions to answer, including who this person is and how to help her without getting caught.

We then move to Angel Grove University to a classroom where Mark is asked a question about his experience as a refugee to Earth. We get a glimpse of that journey but Professor Barall doesn’t make him continue. Barall, who is Eltarian, instead moves to another Eltarian student named Jun, asking him about how he came to Earth. Jun reveals he was born here and then goes into how the Eltarians first came into contact with Earth and humanity.

They first met 70 years ago after Earth was invaded by the Beast Brigade of Gamma VII, which was also humanity’s first contact with alien lifeforms. As the self-appointed protectors of the known universe, The Eltarians stepped in and helped Earth repel the invasion, and this new alliance benefited Earth with technology and advancements that would have taken centuries to achieve on their own. That’s the story we get from this angle anyway, so it will be interesting to see if that holds up under further scrutiny as the series plays out.

What Is Power Rangers Prime?

Power Rangers concluded its eight-year comics run with the big finale to Darkest Hour, and Prime is the beginning of a brand-new story that will still work in some of the legends of the past. You can find the official description for Power Rangers Prime #1 below.

POWER RANGERS is BACK and better than ever! Angel Grove University students face a difficult choice after crossing paths with a fugitive straight out of legend. The consequences for hiding her are dire…but her existence may not stay secret for long.

In the wake of Darkest Hour, prepare yourself for a bold new era and a brand-new story unlike anything that’s come before! A perfect “Day One” jumping on point for new readers and old fans alike!

Familiar characters and settings will pop up in unexpected ways, but this is an all-new adventure – a crazy journey I can’t wait to share with you that beats with the heart of what it means to be a Power Ranger,” Flores said. “With designs by Dan Mora and art by the incredible Michael Yg, honestly I’m just blown away and so thankful to be a part of it!”

The Power Rangers brand has been a bit radio silent since Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, and while there have been a few projects here and there, fans have been waiting to see what the next era holds for the franchise. It seems despite the lack of announcements, there are indeed some plans in the works for the franchise, which came way of a question from Moriviews’ Moriba Forde to Hasbro President Olivier Dumont. While Dumont didn’t go into specifics, he said that they do have “exciting plans for quite a few brands including Power Rangers.”

A Time of Change

power-rangers-cosmic-fury-with-logo-trailer.jpg

The franchise celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2023, releasing a reunion special in Once & Always and the final consecutive season of Power Rangers with Cosmic Fury. Both were released on Netflix, and this was to be the final chapter of this run before the streamer launched a rebooted universe.

The reboot was being developed by Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This) and showrunner Jenny Klein and was set to deliver a connected world of characters across both television and film. Unfortunately earlier this year it was reported that the live-action series was no longer moving forward at Netflix, with Hasbro reportedly exploring a new creative direction for the show as well as a new partner as a result of the change.

The Power Rangers Brand

While the TV and movie sides of the franchise are in flux, there are other things happening with the franchise in the interim. The gaming front is actually where Power Rangers is most visible at the moment, as a new Rita’s Rewind video game was recently announced for consoles and the mobile hit Legacy Wars continues to add new content. Renegade Game Studios’ continues to release new content as well for the Power Rangers Deck-Building Game and Heroes of the Grid, and they’ve also introduced a variety of new content into their Power Rangers Roleplaying Game.

Then there’s the toys and collectibles side of the franchise, which is also going quite strong despite the fact that Hasbro’s Lightning Collection ended rather abruptly. Other companies are still creating new statues and collectibles for the franchise, and there will be a new toy line next year from Playmates as well.

So now the question is, what do you want to see in a new Power Rangers project? You can talk all things Power Rangers with me on Threads and Twitter @Mattaguilarcb!

The Power Rangers franchise might not be coming back any time soon, but it’s sparking up conversations all over again as the first look at a potentially cancelled animated reboot has surfaced online. The Power Rangers franchise recently celebrated its 31st anniversary, and over the three decades the series has gone on to inspire multiple iterations of the TV series, video games, comic books, and even a few feature films over the years. But there’s one avenue that the franchise has yet to explore in all this time, an animated one as the series has not gotten an animated project of any kind.

But it seems like an animated project could have happened as a surfaced animated film for the Power Rangers franchise has popped up online. The touted cancelled film, Power Rangers: Origins, would have been developed by Saban Brands and Zag Entertainment (the production studio behind Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir), and would have featured a new take on the original team from the first season of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV series. Posters and other promotional material for the cancelled project have appeared on eBay (as spotted by @RangerBoard on X) and you can check them out below.

What Is Power Rangers: Origins?

Details for this reportedly cancelled project are scarce due to the secretive nature of its development, but Power Rangers: Origins was apparently in development for Saban Brands in the period where they owned the franchise and were looking ahead to what could be coming next. This was during the era following Saban Brands buying the franchise back from Disney, and developing new projects. Which means it was also during the period in the 2010s before the franchise rights were sold to Hasbro, but for one reason or another this animated take on the franchise never came to pass (much also like the recently cancelled Netflix reboot).

From the looks at the material, it looks to be a fully animated rebooted take on the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers line up of Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack and Trini. Though their respective characters might have gotten redesigns for the new era, it seems like the rest of the franchise would have been redesigned as well with new designs for the zords as seen through the promotional materials as well. But an animated version of the franchise is still something many fans are hoping to see in action someday.

Will There Ever Be an Animated Power Rangers?

Desire for a fully animated Power Rangers series is something fans of the franchise have been vocal about for quite some time. As the live-action TV shows and movies are currently inactive, fans had hoped to see some kind of animated take bring the franchise in a whole new kind of direction that can’t be replicated with real suit actors as seen in the Tokusatsu adaptations. But there could be several different reasons why the franchise has yet to make an animated debut with the central being potential licensing issues.

Given that the Power Rangers franchise adapts Toei’s Super Sentai series in Japan, there are a number of deals likely in place to use the characters in different ways. Whether changing these designs and squarely focusing on the Power Rangers versions of the characters makes it easier for some kind of project, it’s all holding back an animated take. Unlike some of the other Hasbro brands enjoying their animated runs, Power Rangers just might be more complicated in getting an animated version out there. Especially now that the TV series seems to have gone dormant for the time being.

PLUS: The Clue movie reboot may have a director; the Transformers & G.I. Joe movie gets an update; Zack Snyder’s 300 TV series is happening – and Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 drops some major casting surprises!

Transformers One Review

Here’s what ComicBook Nation’s Anime Initiative host Evan Valentine had to say about his 4-star review of Transformers One

I would be remiss by not calling this the best Transformers film since the 1980s animated film. If this is the future of the Transformers franchise, then Autobot and Decepticons fans have a bright future to look forward to indeed.

The Penguin Review

ComicBook’s Jenna Anderson had the following to say in her 4.5 out of 5 star review of The Penguin:

Across its eight episodes, The Penguin redefines what verisimilitude can mean in the world of comic book adaptations. The grittiness, violence, and double-crossing that fans would expect from the title are abundantly present, but balanced with a truly heartfelt take on loss, rebirth, and personal agency. The series is not only one of the better crime dramas in recent memory, it is one of the best examples of how to branch out decades of beloved lore. The Penguin is simply a show about people trying to thrive in a world much bigger and weirder than they can even comprehend – a subject that would be universal nonetheless, but transforms into something special with its engrossing performances.

Few franchises have shown as much staying power and timelessness as Power Rangers, and it’s a bit hard to fathom that the franchise got its start on this very day 31 years ago. On this day in 1993, the first episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers hit the airwaves and ushered in a Kids TV powerhouse that would then expand beyond TV into the realms of Toys, movies, games, collectibles, and comics. All these years later the franchise is waiting for its next chapter to begin, but there’s still plenty to celebrate in the meantime, and we’ve got everything you need to know and be on the lookout for right here.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Where It All Started

power-rangers-31-anniversary.jpg

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first aired on August 28th, 1993, and would introduce fans to the original five Rangers. Jason (Red Ranger), Trini (Yellow Ranger), Billy (Blue Ranger), Zack (Black Ranger), and Kimberly (Pink Ranger) would make up the original team, and they would soon be joined by the Green Ranger Tommy, who would go on to become one of the icons of the franchise. The team would experience some changes along the way, both in cast and in terms of Rangers and Zords, and would conclude its run on May 23rd, 1994.

Power Rangers was adapted from the Super Sentai series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, and subsequent seasons of the show beyond Mighty Morphin would adapt other Sentai entries. The most recent entry in the franchise was 2023’s Cosmic Fury, which gave the Dino Fury cast their third season to close out a 30 year run.

Movies and TV

power-ranger-movie-amy-jo-johnson-rita-repulsa-216307.jpg

At the moment you can find quite a few Power Rangers projects on Netflix, which currently holds the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, both seasons of Power Rangers Dino Fury, and the one season of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. You can also find the 2023 reunion of the original cast on Netflix in Power Rangers: Once & Always, which brought back David Yost, Walter Emanuel Jones, Steve Cardenas, and Catherine Sutherland as Rangers. You’re going to have to move around a bit for the other film projects, as the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers film from 1995 can be found on Disney+ at the moment, while the 2017 Power Rangers reboot film can be found on Prime Video.

Gaming

mighty-morphin-power-rangers-ritas-rewind-2.jpg

Power Rangers fans have a bevy of options to choose from in the realm of gaming, and one of the most exciting games is right around the corner. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind will hit later this year, and brings the classic beat-em up style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the Power Rangers franchise in a game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Those who want a good deal can also find the previously released fighting game Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, which is available for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

You can also find the free to play fighting game Power Rangers Legacy Wars on iOS and Android, which has added a massive amount of Rangers and villains as playable characters to the roster over the years and is still updating with new content. On the tabletop side there is the miniature skirmish game Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid, which has released a host of expansions and additional teams for the game. There’s also the Power Rangers Deck-Building Game, which just released the It’s Morphin’ Time expansion that includes the new Green Ranger from the comics. If you happen to love roleplaying games, you can also check out Renegade’s Power Rangers Roleplaying Game and its expansions to start your own campaign.

Comics

power-rangers-prime-header-image.jpg

Speaking of the comics, now is a perfect time to catch up on everything you’ve missed and get ready for a new era. BOOM! Studios recently released a first preview of its Power Rangers Prime series, which will launch a new starting point and a group of fan favorite Rangers to follow along with, including Lauren from Power Rangers Samurai. You can find trades of Go Go Power Rangers, Power Rangers, and Power Rangers: The Return as well, and the latter featured Amy Jo Johnson and Matt Hotson bringing back the original team of Rangers for an all new adventure with some big surprises.

While you wait for Prime, there is also the fantastic Power Rangers Infinity, a one-shot that introduces fans to a delightful new team of oddball Rangers, as well as the excellent Ranger Academy, which follows an academy that trains students to become Rangers set in thesame world of the Rangers we know and love. Oh, and if you want crossovers, you can’t go wrong with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles either!

Toys and Collectibles

lord-drakkon-super7.jpg

That brings us to toys and collectibles, which continues to showcase the franchise in various ways. On the action figures front, fans can find good deals on the Lightning Collection, as the franchise will introduce a new line of toys from Playmates next year. In the same action figure realm, Super 7 also has their brand new Lord Drakkon Ultimates figure, which is based on the evil version of Tommy Oliver from an alternate universe. The Drakkon figure comes with some amazing accessories, including a broken Saba, alternate head sculpt, and a broken Red Ranger helmet, and he can be pre-ordered here. There are also Ultimate versions of the Dragonzord, Lord Zedd, and core Rangers available as well.

If you want bigger scale figures, you can also get the Power Rangers One:12 Collective Deluxe Boxed Set, which features the original five Rangers with a host of accessories that includes the Power Blaster! If you’re into smaller collectibles, Funko has a variety of Pops to add to the collection, including the Green Ranger 30th Anniversary, Ranger Slayer, and more.

In the even higher scale side of things, Diamond Select has a new Power Rangers Red Ranger Gallery Statue up for pre-order, as well as a 3D 1:2 Scale Bust of the White Ranger, which is stunning. Then there’s the Ranger’s mentor Zordon in a 1:10 scale statue from Iron Studios, who also have new Ranger statues coming as well.

Happy 31st Anniversary Power Rangers, and can’t wait to see what the next 31 years hold for one of my favorite franchises!

When Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind was announced back in June, only the five original Rangers were revealed as playable characters: Jason, Trini, Zack, Billy, and Kimberly. Unfortunately, that left one glaring omission: Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger. Fans have long been hoping to see Tommy announced, and Digital Eclipse has now made it official. According to the developer, the game will feature Tommy’s origin story as part of the game’s narrative, and Tommy will become a playable character once the campaign has been completed. Tommy’s weapon of choice in the game will be his iconic Dragon Dagger.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind has some connective tissue with Power Rangers: Once & Always. In the game, Robo Rita has gone back in time, with the goal of altering history to defeat the Power Rangers. As such, players will be revisiting some of the most iconic moments from the earliest days of the show. The five-part Green With Evil storyline certainly qualifies as such, having first introduced viewers to Tommy, who was portrayed in the series by the late Jason David Frank. Tommy quickly became a fan favorite character, and arguably the face of the franchise.

In addition to the announcement, Digital Eclipse shared some images of Tommy in the game. Interestingly enough, in one image, Tommy can be seen fighting the Tenga Warriors. By the time the Tenga Warriors appeared in the show’s third season, Tommy had become the White Ranger, so it will be interesting to see if the appearance of the villains has something to do with Rita’s manipulation of the timeline!

mmpr-ritas-revenge-tengas.jpg

For those that haven’t been keeping up with the game, Rita’s Rewind is an arcade style brawler, similar to the SNES Power Rangers games developed by Bandai. In addition to fighting foes like the Putty Patrol and Tenga Warriors, players can also look forward to giant boss fights using the Megazord! The game is supposed to come out before the end of 2024, but a full release date has not been confirmed. When it does release, the game will be made available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

As for the Playmates Power Rangers lineup, look for a kid-focused first wave to drop in 2025. Here’s what Hasbro and Playmates had to say about the partnership:

“We are honored to work with Hasbro on the reimagination of this iconic franchise’s toy line for long time fans and a new generation of children. Playmates and Hasbro speak the same toy language and share a passion for POWER RANGERS, a multi-generational phenomenon that has stood the test of time,” said Karl Aaronian, Playmates’ SVP of Marketing.

BOOM! Studios brought its celebrated Power Rangers saga to an epic close in Darkest Hour, and fans have been wondering what the future might hold for the franchise. Now BOOM! Studios has pulled back the curtain to reveal what that new era will be, and it will be known as Power Rangers Prime. At the helm of this new series will be writer Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, Dead Lucky) and artist Michael Yg (Iron Fist), and they will be leading the Rangers into a bold new era that isn’t bound by the same rules or history as Power Rangers stories that have come before. Fans can experience this new adventure when Power Rangers Prime hits comic stores on November 13th, and you can check out a full preview of the new series on the next slide.

Familiar Faces, New Ideas

As you can see in the cover and the preview, there are still Rangers around, but the circumstances and world they find themselves in have been shaken up. That’s because Prime spirals into new directions after the world forever changed with Darkest Hour, and nothing and no one is off limits. You can find the official description for Power Rangers Prime below.

“Power Rangers is BACK and better than ever! Angel Grove University students face a difficult choice after crossing paths with a fugitive straight out of legend. The consequences for hiding her are dire… but her existence may not stay secret for long. In the wake of Darkest Hour, prepare yourself for a bold new era and a brand new story unlike anything that’s come before! A perfect ‘Day One’ jumping on point for new readers and old fans alike!”

A New Era

“With Power Rangers Prime, we’re bringing the comics into a reimagined world! Familiar characters and settings will pop up in unexpected ways, but this is an all-new adventure – a crazy journey I can’t wait to share with you that beats with the heart of what it means to be a Power Ranger,” said long time Power Rangers scribe, Melissa Flores. “With designs by Dan Mora and art by the incredible Michael Yg, honestly I’m just blown away and so thankful to be a part of it!”

“What did I do to deserve drawing a Power Rangers book? Seriously! Back in the 90s, kids of my age in China got only a handful of American shows and cartoons and they were simply priceless! We’d rush back home from school to catch them regardless how pissed our parents were for not spending the time studying. But I had no regrets, because Power Rangers was one of the best,” said Power Rangers Prime series artist, Micahel Yg. “Now, not only am I drawing it, but the book is also written by the unbelievably talented Melissa Flores, and designed by Dan Mora, one of my favorite artists out there these days that I look up to. So it is for the team, for my younger self, and most importantly for you, that I’m putting my absolute heart and soul into this book! I can’t wait for you to read it.”

“Power Rangers is an integral part of BOOM! Studios’ DNA, and in the wake of the finale of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, we were never going to stop telling new and exciting ongoing stories,” said Power Rangers Editor, Allyson Gronowitz. “Melissa and Michael are putting together the most ambitious, ongoing Power Rangers story yet. It’s a brand-new era, a brand-new story, and I hope you all come along for the ride!”

Power Rangers Prime #1 will feature a main cover by franchise favorite Dan Mora, and will feature gorgeous variants by Juni Ba (The Boy Wonder), InHyuk Lee (Mighty Morphin), Bon Bernardo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Joëlle Jones (Catwoman), Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire), and more. Power Rangers Prime #1 hits comic stores on November 13th, and is available to pre-order at your local comic store now.

It’s Power Rangers colliding with another world in the new Isekai anime coming in 2025, The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World! Fans of Super Sentai and other Tokusatsu heroes might have noticed how many of these heroes have gotten a full anime debut in the last few years especially as more creators play around with the ideas. Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and more have seen new takes, and Super Sentai squads even took over the anime world with releases like Go! Go! Loser Ranger! releasing earlier this year. Now the popular Isekai subgenre is getting its own spin on these heroes too.

First created by Koyoshi Nakayoshi for Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan in 2020, The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World imagines a world in which a Red Ranger loses to the big bad at the end of the series and is instead sent to a new fantasy world with all of his hero powers, weapons, and mecha intact. You can check out the first look at this new Red Ranger Isekai anime series with its first trailer in the video above and first poster below:

What Is Red Ranger Isekai?

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is currently scheduled to release some time next January as part of the Winter 2025 anime schedule. Keiichiro Kawaguchi will be directing the new anime series for Satelight with Atsuhiro Tomioka handling the series composition, Shuji Maruyama designing the characters and serving as chief animation director together with Hideaki Onishi and Ayaki Ito, and with Koichiro Kameyama composing the music. The first additions to the voice cast include the likes of Tomoya Ito as Tоogo Asagaki (who transforms into the hero, Kizuna Red), Konomi Inagaki as Idola Avom, Minami Tanaka as Teltina Liz Wagrel Alvarost, and Tomohiro Ono as Rosie Mist.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is licensed for an English language release by Square Enix’s Manga UP! service and they tease the series as such, “Asagaki Togo, the Red Ranger, is defeated by the ultimate evil organization during their final faceoff. He was sure he was about to die, but instead he was reborn in a completely different world! There, he becomes an adventurer to help those in need, transforms into Kizuna Red and continues his fight for justice! Enjoy this heroic tale of a Ranger protecting another world!”

TNA star Joe Hendry is busier than ever, appearing in both TNA and NXT and mixing it up with both company’s biggest stars. There’s a lot to celebrate, but there’s something else worth celebrating as well, and that’s Hendry getting his very first action figure. At San Diego Comic-Con it was revealed that Hendry would be getting an action figure in the successful Major Bendies line, though in an interview with Matt Cardona, Cardona did have some choice words for Hendry’s surging popularity. In an interview with ComicBook, Hendry reacted to getting his first figure and responded with some choice words of his own to Cardona, but then he also revealed how he is just like the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Green Ranger.

The First Hendry Figure

joe-hendry-major-bendies-copy.jpg

When asked about getting his first action figure and how it felt, Hendry was thrilled, though he still had to throw a jab back at Cardona for what he said. “Oh, it is awesome. It’s very cool. And look, listen, he is Edge’s b****, but I owe Matt Cardona quite a lot here. Because despite our rivalry, this man would not stop. He was telling me, ‘Get a Pro Wrestling Tees, get this, get that, get this, get that.’ He was telling me all the stuff to do, and I was like, ‘Yeah, no, I’m just super busy right now.’ And it was kind of like when I was releasing the song, I thought one day, I was like, man, I’m just going to have to do this one day.”

“So we got the Pro Wrestling Tees set up, and my shirt within five days became the best-selling wrestler shirt of the year on Pro Wrestling Tees. So I owe Matt Cardona one,” Hendry said. “So we’re now in a situation where I’m doing an action figure, where we’re going to be able to put some money in his pocket, a little bit money in my pocket, and I think hopefully we’re going to be able to bring them on the road with TNA as well. So again, doing great business for everybody. That’s the goal.”

The TNA Green Ranger

Speaking of action figures, TNA recently revealed their new action figure line with PowerTown, and the TNA Ultras Series 1 action figures will include Moose, Jordynne Grace, Josh Alexander, and Eddie Edwards. That’s a fantastic lineup, but where’s Hendry? When I brought up the possibility of him being in the line at some point, Hendry threw out a Power Rangers comparison that was rather perfect.

“Let me just stop you there, right? You remember Power Rangers? You remember you had the five Power Rangers,” Hendry asked. “Awesome, right? Then the Green Ranger shows up. I’m the Green Ranger of TNA wrestling, right? So they’ve got their PowerTown series. They just announced a Joe Hendry PowerTown figure. That’s the way you think of me, right? I get my own Megazord. There you go.”

Hopefully, the next set of TNA Ultras brings that Hendry figure into reality, though not that the premise is out there, perhaps a collaboration with Hasbro should make a Joe Hendry Green Ranger figure a reality as well. And the Hendryzord! Okay okay, I’m spiraling so apologies, but c’mon, that would rule right?

After an 8-year journey that set a quite high bar for what Power Rangers could be and the stories it could tell, it’s finally time to bring that larger-than-life saga to an end. That conclusion occurs in the much anticipated Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1, and it was never going to be easy landing this eight-year flight in a truly satisfying way. That said, the team of Melissa Flores, Simona Di Gianfelice, Raul Angulo, Jose Enrique Fernandez, Ed Dukeshire, and editors Allyson Gronowitz and Kenzie Rzonca managed to somehow make that happen while also delivering a few unexpected moments that will undoubtedly stay with you, especially if you’ve been here since the beginning.

The Darkest Hour

comic-reviews-mighty-morphin-power-rangers-darkest-hour-1.jpg

The Rangers have continued to find ways to survive against ever-mounting odds, and while there have been moments of hope throughout “Darkest Hour,” there hasn’t been all that much in the way of momentum for the good guys in quite some time. That’s part of what makes Darkest Hour #1 work on a few different levels, with one being the simple ability to cheer on some wins and take a deep breath as the finale moves toward its epic close. There’s also a payoff in regards to the sheer grit of every Ranger left standing, who despite the lack of light at the end of that tunnel never hesitate to keep moving forward.

That’s not applicable if the challenge feels easily overcome, and that’s been far from the case throughout the series. At every turn, it seems the Rangers are confronted with another problem and fewer resources to fix said problem, and those stakes and the tension that tags along feel rewarded when the Rangers finally close some of those loops.

Decisions Matter

mmpr-darkest-hour-1-review.jpg

That brings us to the other rather unexpected element throughout the finale, and there will likely be some that come away mixed on this. A prevalent theme throughout these past few issues of Power Rangers and especially in Darkest Hour #1 is the meaning of consequences and the ripple effects every action ultimately has on the world. Whether large or small, those ripple effects matter, and no matter the intent, any action will carry its own consequences, positive or negative. If you expected every arc and story built to this point to be left in a satisfying place, I think you’ll be in for a shock, and not necessarily a negative one.

In fact, it’s part of what has stuck with me most since first reading the issue. Not everyone makes it, and even those that do are left changed in significant ways. Certain character arcs are brought to their conclusion in a fashion that evades the happily ever after of it all, and that might not be the ending some had hoped for. All that said, for me that’s part of why it all works. When consequences feel real, decisions have weight, making those crossroad moments feel earned, especially when they live in the grey. Billy and Zordon are a perfect example, as not all of Billy’s choices have paid off on the road here, and despite how things may turn out, there is real fallout that can’t be magically fixed.

By the way, don’t fret in the slightest, as while I prattle on about internal conflicts and big decisions, there are a ton of delightful action sequences throughout the issue that will feel bigger than life. It never gets old seeing eras of different Rangers portal through to join the battle, and special props for allowing Baboo, Squatt, and Goldar to pilot a Zord. I’d watch a half-hour sitcom of that on its own. I’d be remiss not to give some praise to an outstanding morphing sequence in the issue’s second half as well. It’s gorgeous, as are several other moments away from the battlefield (or at times still on it) that once again highlight the interpersonal relationships that have helped make this series such a dream for fans of the franchise.

End of an Era

power-rangers-logo-hasbro-pulse-con-2022.jpg

It’s not perfect, though many of the issues are connected to the practicalities of space and real estate. There just seems to be too much to address and wrap up in one issue, even if it is 40 pages. While many of the key characters in this chapter of the story get a moment or two, there also seems to be a lot left on the table, and it’s a quick jump from the climax of the battle to the ending and resetting of a status quo. There just isn’t enough space to move through the world and explore how this really affected everyone, with the exception of one or two conversations. The ones that are there are fantastic mind you, but I did find myself wanting to see more of them.

That brings me to the ending, and as previously mentioned, I love that it takes the world and everything done within its parameters seriously. There are consequences to what has come before, and it’s happened to stick with me quite a bit. I love where we leave things, even though I clearly have questions. There’s a bit of melancholy to the finale that I didn’t expect, but the willingness to explore moments of complexity is part of the indelible mark the comics have made on the franchise, and with one era now behind us, here’s to what the future holds.

At Summer Game Fest earlier this month, Digital Eclipse surprised and delighted viewers with a reveal for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind, an all-new game coming to PC and consoles later this year. At the heart of the game is the villain Robo-Rita, who previously appeared in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. In a new interview with Time Extension, Digital Eclipse content editor Dan Amrich talked about the connection between these two projects, and how Rita’s Revenge builds off Robo-Rita’s plans from the movie.

Once and Always felt like a love letter to fans, something that allowed the 30th anniversary’s nostalgia while also acknowledging that fans who grew up with the franchise have never really left. We enjoyed that special and since it was the most recent major Power Rangers event, we thought that’d be a great place to start,” Amrich told Time Extension. “Then we just started dreaming the way other fans do — ‘Oh, Robo-Rita made a time portal! Well, what if she actually succeeded with her plan? Knowing all the ways she’d been defeated over the years, what would Robo-Rita do if she could go back in time and share all those spoilers with her younger self?’ It gave us a great excuse to play with both modern and classic elements from the franchise.”

Basically, it sounds like the developers used the Netflix film as a jumping on point, and as a way of revisiting characters and elements spanning the earliest days of the Power Rangers franchise. That means if you’re concerned about the continuity aspects, it manages to explain why the team will have to once again take down foes defeated throughout the show’s first few seasons. It’s an intriguing approach, and connecting the game to a high-profile, well-regarded Power Rangers film is a smart way to appeal to both hardcore fans, and those newer to the franchise.

It remains to be seen whether Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind will be able to rank with the best video games based on the property. From the excellent Natsume games of the Super Nintendo era, to the mostly well-received Battle for the Grid. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out, as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind will arrive this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are no strangers to crossovers, and their latest team-up features Stan Sakai’s beloved Ronin Rabbit Usagi Yojimbo. Today BOOM! Studios announced a special one-shot crossover featuring the Power Rangers and Yojimbo, which will be written by Ryan Parrott (Power Rangers/Rogue Sun), illustrated by Shawn Daley (Ogre), and colored by James Jenner (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Shapeshifters). The one-shot will also coincide with Yojimbo’s 40th Anniversary and will hit comic stores this September. You can check out a full preview of the issue on the next slide.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo will send the Rangers back in time after something happens with their morphers during a battle with Rita. They end up in the Edo era of Japan, and end up being approached by the mysterious Ogasawara, though as you might expect, not everything is as seems, and they will need to come to grips with that if they ever want to get back home.

The one-shot will feature a main cover by Tauren Clarke (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) and variant covers by Sakai with colors by Eli Fujii, Jared Cullum (Usagi Yojimbo: Ice and Snow), Goni Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return), and Takeshi Miyazawa (Mech Cadets).

A Crossover Dream Team

“I’m really excited with Usagi’s crossover with the Power Rangers,” said comics legend Stan Sakai. “This is the first time Usagi has teamed up with real superheroes (that do not have shells)! It’s a great story with fantastic art!”

“I think one of the most exciting elements of comics is the unexpected crossover, so when BOOM! Studios asked me if I was interested in pairing the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with Usagi Yojimbo, I didn’t hesitate,” said veteran Power Rangers scribe Ryan Parrott. “I’ve been a fan of Stan Sakai’s work and the epic story he’s been telling my whole life, so it was a true honor to get to step into that world and play with those characters. Plus, the moment I saw Shawn Daley’s artwork, I knew this had the potential to be an insanely fun, one of a kind ride that hopefully both Ranger and Samurai fans will enjoy.”

“Some characters feel destined to cross paths, and I hadn’t realized how much I needed this team-up until I was asked to help bring it to life,” said artist Shawn Daley. “Stan Sakai’s legendary work was a formative introduction to comics for me, and as a lifelong fan of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the combination hits hard. That’s in no small part to Ryan’s incredibly fun script, which has been a privilege to draw. I also got to use my original Power Rangers figures for reference material – an artist’s dream come true!”

What Is Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo #1 About?

During a routine Rita Repulsa attack, the Rangers’ morphers do something unexpected…by hurling them back to the Edo era of Japan! Upon arriving at their historic destination, the mysterious Ogasawara begs the Rangers for their help. But the enemy they face isn’t what they were expecting…and our band of heroes will have to face a painful revelation if they want to save the day and return home.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo #1 will hit comic shops on September 25th and is now available for pre-order.

Power Rangers fans have been waiting diligently for any news regarding the in-development Netflix live-action series, but unfortunately, the news as of now is far from what they hoped to hear. TV Line has confirmed that the live-action series is no longer moving forward at Netflix (via an original report from @Jinsakuu), and Hasbro Entertainment, who owns the franchise, will now explore a new creative direction for the show and a new partner. Jonathan Entwistle was overseeing the series while Jenny Klein was the series showrunner, but so far Entwistle, Klein, Netflix, nor Hasbro have commented on the status of the series.

Jinsakuu’s original report stated that Hasbro is looking to do something similar to what it just did with the Power Rangers toy line. Earlier this year Hasbro revealed that it had licensed the Power Rangers toys to Playmates, which will start to roll out their lines next year. It’s stated that Hasbro is looking to follow a similar path for the Power Rangers TV rights and that they are trying to be as hands-off as possible.

On Twitter, Jinsakuu wrote, “Due to the lack of staff and all the departments and responsibilities Hasbro had to take on. They’re lisencing Power Rangers Toys and Media off to other companies. As we seen with playmates who now own full control of the toys they’re doing the same with the show rights. Also they’re trying to be as hands off as possible and still own the franchises revenues. So good news maybe ??”

Netflix has been a frequent partner of Hasbro over the past few years, and over the past year or so that’s also been the case with Power Rangers. Power Rangers: Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury both called Netflix their exclusive home, while Netflix was also the place to find the 30th Anniversary special Once & Always. At one time there were far bigger plans for the franchise at the streamer, especially with Entwistle involved.

Entwistle co-created I Am Not Okay With This and The End of the F***ing World for Netflix, and in 2020 he was announced as the overseer of the franchise in both TV and film. It was all rumored to be part of a grand plan to connect those various areas of the franchise moving forward, presenting a vision that captured the nostalgia and iconic elements of the series while also creating a vision for the future. That has unfortunately not come to fruition as of yet, and now it’s murky if that vision will ultimately happen.

We’ll have to wait and see if this is overhauled completely or if tenants of the original plan remain and just find a different home, but hopefully, there will be more clarity soon.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary, and in continuing celebration of that milestone, the franchise has revealed a new video game as part of Summer Game Fest. Today Digital Eclipse and Hasbro revealed a new retro-inspired action game titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, and as you can see in the trailer below, the game harkens back to classic brawlers and side scrollers while mixing in the fan-favorite moments from the franchise’s history. The game is currently slated to hit PC and consoles in late 2024.

Rita’s Rewind features the original five Rangers and allows for online and offline co-op with up to five players. You’ll also be able to pilot their Zords and other vehicles throughout, including cycles and even a rollercoaster as they try and take down enemies with their blasters as they move through the environment.

That includes one particularly awesome sequence seen in the trailer that shows the Red Ranger guiding the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord and trying to take down a floating version of Eye Guy. Later in the trailer, we see the next step of that battle, as you are battling Eye Guy from the cockpit of the Megazord in first person. Familiar locations in Angel Grove can be seen throughout as well as even more villains, and the big villain at the center of it all is Rita Repulsa, though there’s a twist, as there are actually two Ritas to contend with.

“As we celebrate over 30 years of POWER RANGERS, we are excited to collaborate with Digital Eclipse to introduce Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind to our passionate fanbase,” said Eugene Evans, SVP Digital Strategy and Licensing at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast. “We created Hasbro Retro Arcade to deliver a modern take on old-school arcade action based on our world-class brands and characters. This further illustrates our strategy to grow our digital games portfolio through licensing and internal development and we can’t wait for fans’ reactions when revisiting iconic moments through this new, yet retro, gameplay.” You can find the official description for Rita’s Rewind below.

“A new story with a familiar foe…In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, the team faces off against a robotic reincarnation of the Power Rangers’ long-time nemesis. Robo-Rita has conjured a portal to send herself back in time so she can finally vanquish the Power Rangers by forming an alliance with her younger self. Working together, Robo-Rita and Rita Repulsa rewind, rewrite, and remix the past in an attempt to stop the very formation of the Power Rangers, altering the course of history.

Will the two Ritas and their army of monstrous enemies from across the MMPR timeline finally succeed in destroying the Power Rangers? Or will these teenagers with attitude learn to work together and counter this catastrophic chronological collaboration?

Players will be able to experience the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers again – for the first time! The past will never be the same…”

A new comic book day is once again upon us, and there is no shortage of fantastic books to choose from. Whether you’re into big superhero epics (Superman, Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), introspective character dives (Wonder Woman), edge-of-your-seat horror-tinged adventures (Feral, Something is Killing the Children), or summer-blockbusters (Blood Hunt, Pooh vs Bambi), there’s something that will hook you, and we’re breaking them all down on this week’s new episode of ComicBook Nation’s The Pull List, which you can listen to right here. You can also find out the highlights of the week below.

Highlights of the Week

It was a great week overall in terms of quality and fun, but there were a few books that especially stood out, including Wonder Woman #9 and Blood Hunt #2. They couldn’t be more different from each other, but that also makes them the perfect one-two punch. Wonder Woman #9 moves the relationship between Diana and Steve Trevor into the spotlight as Diana continues to endure the trials of the Sovereign, and it opens up a host of discussions regarding what Trevor has meant to Wonder Woman in the past, what he means now, and his importance (or perhaps lack thereof) to Wonder Woman’s story overall.

Blood Hunt #2 on the other hand is a summer blockbuster at its finest, delivering an action-stuffed issue with real stakes and genuine tension throughout. By the way, the work Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia are creating right now is truly unreal, and the mix of characters and creativity in how they are used is becoming one of the series’ strongest elements.

On the complete other side of the summer blockbuster scale is Pooh vs. Bambi #2, an absurdly fun series that has already won over both hosts. While it doesn’t have the depth of something like eBlood Hunt, it also doesn’t need to, and it leans into its fantastical premise in interesting and often bloody ways.

Speaking of bloody, there’s plenty of that in Something is Killing the Children #37, but that’s ultimately not why it’s one of my favorite issues of the series to date. While the issue is a self-contained tale for the most part, the character pairing of Erica and the girl she is protecting is just brilliant, and their banter and exchanges can’t help but make you wish we had more of their adventures to see down the road. That’s probably not the case, but even if this is just for one issue, they absolutely steal the show.

Feral does as well, and though it was Janell’s introduction to the series, she couldn’t help but be swept away in the tension-filled Aristocats meets The Walking Dead adventure. More answers can’t come soon enough, and hopefully, some hope lives around the corner after the harrowing journey they’ve experienced to this point.

Superman also impresses with the fourth chapter of House of Brainiac, once again delivering on previous threads while also moving the characters forward in intriguing ways, all in the midst of a superhero throwdown that looks stunning. Oh, and Queen Brainiac, well, she’s something else entirely. You can check out everything we had to say about all this week’s books right here, and you can find all of the books we discussed below.

Review Rundown

  • Wonder Woman #9
  • Blood Hunt #2
  • X-Men 97 #3
  • Superman #14
  • Feral #3
  • Something is Killing the Children #37
  • Pooh vs Bambi #2
  • Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong #7
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #120

Trade Watch

Not done yet! Trades also hit this week, and one in particular that deserves some shine is Mad Cave Studios’ Edenfrost. The four-issue series can now be read all in one place, and the story of two siblings and a powerful mystical Golem that defends their bloodline offers something very different from anything else on stands. It’s a tale of family and magic that you won’t want to miss, and you can check out the official description below.

“After losing their parents in a pogrom, teenage siblings Alex and Yuli use the mystical power of a Golem to survive the chaos of the Russian Civil War. In a harrowing journey through war-torn Ukraine, the duo will face the harsh reality of warfare, ethnic bias, and national pride as they fight for their place in the world.”

It would be wrong to call the Power Rangers anything but an institution. Over the decades, the franchise has welcomed millions of fans into the sentai club. From its original outing to its latest series, Power Rangers has done it all. And now, the IP is going viral all thanks to one fan’s animated take on the heroes.

As you can see above, the work comes courtesy of Dominic Estephane. The talented animator hit up YouTube with a special project titled The Morphing Grid: A Power Rangers Anthology. The trailer brings the world of Power Rangers to life using animation, and it is nothing short of stunning.

According to Estephane, they tapped into several specific pieces of . Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers season two was high on the list along with Leo and Space. These specific series helped the artist refine an “anime” inspired style with “Genndy Tartakovsky” ties, and the result is gorgeous.

Honestly? It is hard to imagine a Power Rangers anime or animated series looking better than this. We need this kind of content in our veins ASAP.

Of course, the Power Rangers fandom is going nuts over this pitch, and social media is spreading word around. This tribute comes at the perfect time as the Power Rangers are making headlines thanks to a certain anime. This year, the hit sentai anime Go, Go, Loser Ranger debuted to critical acclaim. The anime, which is ongoing, brings the best of sentai storytelling to life while giving it a dose of grit. The anime’s success has put a renewed focus on the OG Power Rangers, and thanks to this new trailer, netizens are ready to beg for a full-blown animated series.

A new era of Power Rangers began in 2018 when the Power Rangers franchise was acquired from Sagan Brands by Hasbro, and since then we’ve seen a variety of action figures, toys, and television shows under that umbrella. Now a new era is set to begin on the entertainment side, but another new era is beginning on the toys side as well, as Hasbro has announced a global licensing agreement with Playmates Toys. Playmates Toys will produce and distribute Power Rangers products moving forward, with the first wave happening in 2025 with the launch of a new kid-targeted Mighty Morphin Power Rangers line.

Under the new deal, Playmates will hold licensing rights to develop additional cross-category Power Rangers products, including action figures, blasters, plush, role play, vehicles, and accessories. Playmates will distribute across all regions except for Asia.

While Playmates will handle the toy side of things, Hasbro will retain the entertainment rights and will work with licensees across multiple categories to drive its global strategy for the brand. That includes publishing, fashion, footwear, promotions, and more. Hasbro will also feature Power Rangers on Hasbro Pulse and as part of its presence at events like San Diego Comic-Con.

Power Rangers just celebrated its 30th Anniversary last year, which ushered in Power Rangers: Once & Always and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury on Netflix. The BOOM! Studios comics also continue to thrive in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Ranger Academy, and the recent launch of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return miniseries.

Playmates Toys already handles several beloved properties, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Miraculous, Godzilla x Kong, and Star Trek. Now Power Rangers will be joining that mix, and it remains to be seen if things like the Lightning Collection will continue or if Playmates will launch another similar high-articulation line of figures.

PLUS:  Geek News includes some big renewal news for some of streaming’s hottest shows; a breakdown of Amazon’s The Rings of Power Season 2 Trailer, and the Spider-Verse expands with Nic Cage’s Spider-Man Noir TV show – even as Amazon’s Silk: Spider Society series dies in development.

IF (2024) Review

ComicBook critic Jamie Jirak’s IF movie review gives the film 3.5 out of 5 stars:

The film does a good job of reminding its audience that there’s a kid in all of us, and that time can never truly take away your imagination. It’s been a while since I looked around in a theater and saw multiple grown men shedding a tear. Krasinski knows how to appeal to parents, especially dads. While IF may not be a perfectly pieced-together movie, there’s enough heart embedded in its core to make it a worthy trip to the cinema for families. The cast is delightful, the IFs are magical, and the warmth is undeniable.

Go Go Loser Ranger is like no other anime on the market today, or perhaps no other anime that has ever existed. Taking the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers franchise and turning it on its head, this anime series might just have something for everyone. Thanks to the Divine Dragon Rangers’ secrets that they hold back from the public, the anime adaptation isn’t just a play on the Sentai franchise but also feels like a tribute to Homelander, The Seven, and the world of The Boys.

Go Go Loser Ranger starts how you might expect when it comes to any of the Power Rangers series that have arrived in the past. What viewers learn is that the Rangers of this world have long since defeated the monsters that were attempting to take over the surface. The “Villainous Army of Evil” still exist but they are effectively the play things of this world’s rangers, as the Divine Dragon Rangers find themselves wheeling out the “footsoldiers” to defeat ad nauseum for an adoring public. This repeating act hints at the true sadism of these anime Rangers, which begins to unfold in a similar structure to The Boys, showing that the Red Ranger has more than a little in common with Homelander.

watch-go-go-loser-ranger-anime.jpg

The Divine Dragon Boys

Of course, the Rangers aren’t the only ones that play a role in this anime. Much like Hughie from The Boys, Footsodlier D finds himself dragged into a world that he didn’t expect as he attempts to get revenge against the super-powered individuals keeping him down. Much like the group formed by Butcher, Footsoldier D is going to find himself with the opportunity to take a swing at his tormentors, but will his world become worse due to this?

If you want to catch the current episodes of Go Go Loser Ranger, the installments are streaming on Hulu. Here’s how the streaming service describes the series, “When the Monster Army invaded Earth thirteen years ago, the Divine Dragon Rangers rose up to stop them! With the war raging on, these great heroes are mankind’s Last Hope!…or are they? In truth, the invaders were subjugated within a year, forced to continue to crank out a monster a week for the Rangers to crush in front of their adoring fans! But one monster has had enough. Something has to change! He’ll rebel against the might of the Dragon Rangers and destroy them all…from the inside!”

Knuckles Review

In his review of Knuckles, ComicBook.com’s Marc Deschamps wrote:

Despite some small issues I had with the show, I found Knuckles to be a delightful new chapter in the ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe. What could have been a drawn out movie with a lower budget is instead an absurdly hilarious adventure that adds more depth to a pair of established characters. The music’s great, and Adam Pally and Idris Elba might have better chemistry than we even saw between Ben Schwartz and James Marsden. There are bound to be some Sega fans disappointed that the show doesn’t feature a bigger threat, or more of a presence from Sonic and friends. We should get both of those things in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 though, and I’m happy that we got something weird and unique to flesh out this universe. Knuckles is not going to be the Sega adaptation anyone is expecting, but it’s a wild ride worth taking, especially for fans of the Sonic films.
